Those poor kids
143 0 ReplyI was doubting if I'm too old to get the reference, or if it's a legit complaint from the kids.
Also, what's wrong with "chat"?
63 0 ReplySome kids talk to an imaginary stream chat like a streamer would.
Ex.- "Chat, is this real?" Or "Can you believe this, chat?"
150 0 ReplyProbably phrased something like how a streamer might speak, “chat, are we ____?” which I could imagine getting old 2.5 milliseconds after the class starts saying it on repeat.
52 0 ReplyClearly a reference to the best Aussie band in the world The Chats
14 0 ReplyAlso, what's wrong with "chat"?
Hey chat, I don't think he knows…

- Tweaking (Emma only) 😂
Lemma guess, Emma uses ‘Tweaking’ every other sentence?
59 0 ReplyTweaking once was chemsex when it wasn't experimenting with the fine-tuning of your amateur radio array.
Now its erratic behavior like someone on stimulants trying to fine tune their radio array to pick up alien chatter.
15 0 ReplyTweaking has been plain meth use for a loooooooooong time, not sure what the kids mean by it now

What are Darius noises? "They will regret opposing me"?

Note the conspicuous lack of traditional swear words on this list.
If I were a kid in this class, I would've abused the hell out of that loophole. (And suffered the consequences, but finding and exploiting the technical ways to skirt a teacher's stupid rules was always worth it.)

Some of these are valid to ban (the sex and manosphere ones) but others just seem like they're trying to ban slang.
21 0 ReplyAlso why ban ligma? What if someone catches it and needs to talk about it.
13 0 ReplyJust like Joe :(
6 0 Reply
If it's an language/literature class, maybe it would make sense to ban slang
7 1 ReplyBan using slang in writing makes sense, but controlling how students can speak is just ridiculous.
17 1 Replyhow does it make sense to ban slang in language/literature class???
that's like banning research papers in physics class, wtf3 0 Reply

thank god I grew up when I did.
18 0 ReplyAs a Gen-X’er I read this and started wondering what “Gyatt” means…. As an (ex-)redditor I know not to ask.
16 0 ReplyIt is a reference to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. Gen alpha is very interested in the history of international trade and the rise of the global market economy.
48 0 ReplyNot gun in Korean, as per Johnny Gatt?
6 0 Reply
It's what the kids are using in place of "God damn" when referring to something impressive.

I work with kids, it essentially means ass but has a sexualized context to it. Most kids approaching high school realize this and don't use it as frequently around me, but younger kids seem to think it just means butt. Again this is just my experience and it could vary from place to place
6 0 ReplyYes, my kids and their friends (10-13 yo) say it all the time and it's pretty uncomfortable. They also say hawk tuah to just mean spit which is much more uncomfortable.

Why is number 2 three different words?
4 0 ReplyThey all come from that incel grifter nonsense. You can also throw "femnoids" and that junk in there, but the alpha, beta, and sigma stuff are more mainstream.
They originally come from that nonsense about wolves forming into packs where the alpha males get the girls and the beta males get cucked, but then they had to create a new, better category of males to keep the grift going, so the "Sigma male" became a thing. And then that spawned the "sigma grindset" idea of working yourself to death because that's how you get rich and sexy, and so on.
13 0 ReplyBecause they all belong to the same semantic domain I guess.
13 0 ReplyThe teacher doesn't like greek

3 0 ReplyThe mind boggles...
Where is this sign, and why is "fuck" not on it (among other words that come to mind)?
4 2 ReplyWell, there's no mames, that's kinda close. No me mames is like "don't fuck with me".
I don't know what the gen alpha meme is, but I don't think it's polite 😂
11 0 ReplyProbably because they are school wide bans and the teacher would probably get in trouble for having it on a sign in her class
