The repost bots were probably needed to kickstart Lemmy with content, but now I feel like they are preventing a natural growth of the communities.
As it is now I feel that they add a layer of confusion to new members, they have made several Lemmy communities looking like vast empty cities, there are new content, but no people commenting or voting.
If any admin is reading tjis, please consider scaling back the repost bots.
I don't browse All because of this , but I did sub to simpsonsshitposts and yeah, just that one tends to dominate, even though most of the posts are indeed what it says on the tin, ie stupid worthless crap.
That many comments really does make a difference. Still, next time you see something cool online consider submitting it? It's not as bad here as you might think.
I didn't even comment for a long time because of the requirement to use a real email instead of disposable. I didn't even have a real email on Reddit and I created that account long after it was popular (but before they required real email accounts). Imo Lemmy cracked down on potential fake accounts too soon and it is costing them growth.
Registration, especially requiring legitimate credentials is a huge barrier for many people who would otherwise post.
I’m sorry but I don’t really see it being that much of a hurdle with services like SimpleLogin where you can activate an address, create an account and then deactivate it again. Or am I wrong here?
Maybe we could use AI to generate new and original content?
Since that might produce too much content for anybody to read, upvote and engage with, we could cover the user side with AI bots as well.
If we do this right we could completely automate social media. Maybe one day you won't even have to look at your phone because an army of bots is doing it for you.
Seems like there a couple of tech support communities already like that. Endless posts all made by different accounts from the same instance, constantly asking for help with Apple products or wifi 24/7.
But also, don't just post useless crap like "This." Or one-liners. Or the most annoying shit ever, which is when people just type out lines from a song, as if they're singing them in person. Like dude, we know you just googled it and copy-pasted that from Genius.com. Don't spam me with your bad pun threads either please.
Fucking right!? Had a bunch of No Post Lemmy users calling my OC meme shit while it is the most upvoted post on lemmy this month. No matter what you post there are gonna be haters.
Haha I went through a phase where I made OG stuff and got shit on for it. I got a new perspective getting shit on by meme/content gatekeepers even though they never made jack shit. Like film critics
Okay, so let's say I actually found the time and had the confidence in my own creativity/sense of humor to make a meme or something. What do you prolific people use?
I don't currently have access to a decent laptop for this purpose, so it would have to be on mobile, and every free image editor app I've tried is lousy at making meme images. Maybe I'm missing the obvious ones, but I could definitely use a 'For Dummies' tier guide to making OC.
Sharing links costs almost no time. Moet memes and stuff I make I just google x meme generator and there it is. It takes literally under a minute. Save to photo roll
To upload I use Memmy, while I use Voyager to scroll through Lemmy usually. I use memmy for uploading because it offers uploading images to imgur. Since my instance doesnt allow for image upload this is a good solution.
If I want to add text to a random image I just use whatsapp/signal to edit the image and send it to myself.
Don’t stress too much about thinking of a good title, puns are cool but not necessary.
Fuck tankies. Seriously. I'd say fascist sympathizers and totalitarian apologists can eat shit, but they do that happily already; it's not an insult to them, they literally love eating shit.
I saw a truck yesterday with a bunch of confederate bumper stickers on it, and fantasized for the rest of the day about how I could vandalize that dumbfuck's truck and get away with it. I really think there's a niche needing filled. Does lemmy have an Iron Front community yet?
On browser version, scroll down to the bottom of the page, click on "modlog", then on the "Filter by user" bar, type in a part of OP's username and it will give you a list of matched user, pick the one on lemmy.world, and a list of mod action will shows.
You make it sound so easy... simple... wholesome. When it's nothing like that. No. Nothing like that at all. The Lem will grow. Patience little one. Enjoy the quiet and calm while you may. and above all - learn.
Gotta spread the love around to different communities, and parcel it out. Make ten memes and post two a day, meanwhile banking up more. If you have the talent for making memes, before long you'll have so many stored up that you can just post them at will, either over time or downthread as a reaction to something else and let someone else repost them.
Content about what? The communities in Lemmy that I care about have a grand total of 0 users and that's if I include myself. Not much of a conversation to be had.
If you post, maybe someone else who shared that interest will stumble across that community and comment or post, then it'll eventually turn into an active community. That's how all of them on Lemmy are born.
Not in the current social media climate. I want my content to actually be seen and interacted with. What we need is for Lemmy to have THE community for a particular interest. As long as there is some place bigger, that's the one people will use.
