We can just build a culture of downvoting puns (and my axe!)
Should we (continue to) allow retro/vintage ads for products that are still available?
There has been concern that if an ad is for a product someone can still purchase today then it is more an ad, and less something retro/vintage.
Anyone have any thoughts either way? I may do a poll.
I'm guessing their app filtered the HTML-like markup.
This place (the community and Lemmy as a whole) aren't really big/busy enough for it to be necessary. This post has served its purpose though so I may lock it.
If only this study came out earlier. Maybe they could have caught the early signs in my youth.
See? This is why it pisses me off so much when they talk about defunding CBC.
JACKSONVILLE, FL—Shedding new light on the role of self-perception in human psychology, a new study published Monday by the Mayo Clinic found that smacking one’s own head while yelling “Stupid, stupid, stupid” could be an early sign of low self-esteem. “While previous generations saw the act of batt...

Maybe has to do with the mismanagement of the Olympics? Not saying it's a justified action but I doubt it's for nothing.
I can only hope I'll be so lucky.
NEW YORK—Pleading with the individual to think rationally, onlookers reportedly urged suicidal jumper Harrison Zwillet to leap from a higher floor Wednesday. “No! Please! Go higher!” called out just one good Samaritan from the ground below, doing her best to deter the distressed stranger from jumpi...

I only watched the first one and for some reason assumed the sequel was the end. How naïve of me.
I don't think the fediverse can really be bought. At least not directly.

I'm Canadian and live in a city so I have plenty of legal real Cannabis (as well as a variety of grey market). I still would like to try these loophole highs out of curiosity, but it's probably hard to find given legality.
Lemmy is still pretty meager, but it might grow further
I think it's inevitable. It may be just a slow steady trickle from here on but I wouldn't be surprised to see another change bring over another mass exodus (does old.reddit.com still work?).
What seems clear to me is that Lemmy has a lot of users that actively don't want to attract the full Reddit crowd,
I think this largely depends on what you mean by this. Reddit as an experience had gradually gone downhill for many years. Momentum and habit kept me there despite that. But when I could no longer use my app the habit was broken and the content wasn't really worth it on its own.
And either way, even users who actively feel more strongly about "redditors" I don't think they really have a say either way if they decide to come over.
I guess by that metric I've relapsed a few times. But just look at how much I'm on Lemmy. That's a lot of engagement and content that reddit used to be getting that they're now not and surely that's more valuable of a loss.
There's at least seven Lemmy hiveminds

I find it really interesting how the "-gate" suffix came to be regularly used.
Love this connection. And it looks like maybe it was E.T. that was in their room?
SCHAUMBURG, IL—Admitting that he should frankly know better than to share anything at this point, local man Jason Dearborn told reporters Monday that sending a photo of a garden cucumber to his father unleashed a torrent of unbridled criticism. “I texted my family a photo of what I thought was a gre...

Connection: monkey comparison
>McCartney wrote the song after seeing two monkeys copulating in the street while on retreat in Rishikesh, India, with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. He marvelled in the simplicity of this natural scenario when compared to the emotional turmoil of human relationships. He later said: >>A male [monkey] just hopped on the back of this female and gave her one, as they say in the vernacular. Within two or three seconds he hopped off again and looked around as if to say "It wasn't me!" and she looked around as if there'd been some mild disturbance ... And I thought ... that's how simple the act of procreation is ... We have horrendous problems with it, and yet animals don't.

How do I access the Web Archives addon on Firefox mobile (efficiently)?
Download Web Archives for Firefox. View archived and cached versions of web pages on 10+ search engines, such as the Wayback Machine, Archive․is, Google, Bing and Yandex.

I'm trying to use the Web Archives addons on Firefox Mobile and I have it installed and can configure it but I'm not sure how to actually use it. I can't right click like on desktop. Maybe I'm missing something obvious. Thanks.
Edit: so I guess I can go into the main menu, open my extension list, select Web Archives, then select the archive source I want to view the current page in. I suppose it works, but with that many taps it hardly seems any faster than just copying the url and pasting it in an archive.is bookmark. If anyone know a more efficient way please let me know.
Edit2: actually, changing this setting and reducing the included archives helps
Hanging on to the best of them is getting harder
