I would accept it gratefully.
  • Probably more value than the chocolate:)

  • I have no idea
  • I worked in a coffeee shop a long time ago and we had a new girl, who just started. Its the end of the shift and we told her to put on rubber gloves, we will show her how to clean the coffee machine.

She went to the store room and after 10 minutes she returned with only one glove on, holding the 100 pack box of disposable gloves and with visible confusion as she explained that we run out of right hand gloves as she could only find these marked with "L"

  • Linux and your family
  • My wifes old laptop died and I got an ancient gaming laptop from a colleague and put Linux Mint on it. It works great.

She uses it for studying and some light gaming (Stardew Valley). It just works. She never used Linux before but had zero issues using it and she even said its just like Windows, just faster.

  • I personally love the smaller userbase. Less spam, more quality, less screentime, no doomscrolling. Its a win-win in my book.

  • MY PERFECT MOURNING ROUTINE
  • I saw this multiple times already on Linkedin reposted with huge engagement.

While I understand this is borderline fiction, absolutely unrealistic and in my eyes an equivalent of those pictures with pretty girls laughing with a plate of salad promoting healthy eating, but for me the comment section of this post is the cherry on top cheering how "brilliant" this is. People are so fucked up on Linkedin.

  • No idea, also not my ideal preference, but he seem to like it, while he was miserable with the IT school.

  • What are some adulting life hacks that you think others could benefit by learning about them?
  • Very true, more people should follow their dreams.

I know a guy who was kind of forced into an IT university. His parents thought it would be a good fit, as he likes computers and videogames.

He one day decided to quit and took some time off and started working in some fancy hotel kitchen as a temp job, while spending some time away from the family. Fast forward a couple years, he is now in culinary school and wants to become a chef. Needless to say he is happier and visibly has a better mental health as before.

  • Steam Now Warns Consumers That They're Buying a License, Not a Game During a Purchase
  • We knew it 10 years ago, we know it now, how is this news to anyone consuming online digital content?

It would be great for sure, but I think the chances to get rid of Orban and his bootlickers is very close to zero.

  • Can agree, steak fries and steamed veggies are usually great at steakhouses.

  • To be fair the place had a great buffet with a large selection of sides and great cocktails, I ended up eating mac and cheese, curly fries and some salad. Even tried some grilled seasoned pineapple so it was at least memorable.

    This place was called Nabrasa.

  • Most gamers prefer single-player games
  • Its just not sustainable for my adult life to log in to whatever live service trash daily and compete agains faceless humans, who have more free time and advantage against a casual player.

Also the state of live service games is pure trash for decades now. Everything needs to be a copy of the 3 most popular titles with some kind of rpg progression and cosmetic items for real world money.

  • When I left my old workplace my colleagues organized a good-bye meal together. Standard office job, with regular guys. We had a great relationship and they knew I was vegetarian for 5+ years at that point and never had any issue with it.

So they asked which restaurant I would like to go and I was stupid enough to let them choose.

We ended up in a specialized Brazilian meat restaurant, where the servers go around with absurdly large pieces of grilled/fryed meats and would carve a piece to the guests. If you are a meat lover you can have easily 10-15 types of meats in a couple of hours.

Those assholes had a huge grin on their faces all evening, as I could only eat the sides from the buffet and had to refuse all meals from the servers about 12 time that evening. It was a truly memorable night, we even got drunk and laughed our asses off on our way home.

So yeah, not just kids can be assholes. We are still in contact till this day.

  • If they were classmates this info would be common knowledge after a few meals together.

  • This is why I never spend more then $100 on a phone.
  • Case + quality screen protector on day 1. For me its weird to hold a phone without a case. Especially some high-end device, which costs a fortune.

  • I did it finally, deleted win10 and installed Linux Mint

This is just to share my experience with everyone, especially the people still undecided.

I was planning the switch for months, and finally had a couple hours undisturbed from the wife and the kids :)

It was a slightly rocky start, as my USB wifi receiver did not have native drivers, but with wired internet and the official Mint tutorial the rest of the transition was super smooth.

The OS install went flawlessly and within an hour I had all the basic programs, browser and utilities up and running. I love that I just download the app from the dedicated place, no pointless web surfing for the latest versions.

I backed up my steam folder (with the rest of my files of course), so after installing the steam client and some quick synchronization I had my installed games library back in minutes. I did some testing and everything works great. As I own a steam deck I already had some experience with games not running natively on Linux, but a saw many great tutorials for beginners. I cant wait to test out some more games!

Edit: thank you for all the positivity and great feedback! I know Lemmy users love Linux and I have to admit I feel a little bit more included :D

Who knows, maybe I will start warching Star Trek next...

About to buy my first road bike, need some advice

Hi all, I hope my post doesn't violate any rules, because of the links, if yes, please let me know.

I am a beginner with road bikes, I was always a MTB person, but I decided to get a road bike for my cardio exercise as I turned 40 and I have less option in my area for MTB rides.

Since Im a beginner with road bikes I would need some advice to not mess up my purchase. Of course I done some research as well, but never know what I missed.

Im in the EU and my budget is 700-750 EUR, so yes, it will be a budget bike. I will ride 3-4 times a week for 50-70 km distances. Some hills, but nothing serious.

    I found two possible candidates:

Triban RC500 The obvious choice, many reviews calling it the best budget bike under 1000 EUR, some compromises, but I think it would be perfect for me. Price: 750 EUR where I live.

Sava Vegur 1.2 A bit of a wild card, its currently on half off sale with a reputable online retailer for 680 EUR, but cant decide if its the deal of the year or I should be cautious. I know, I dont need a carbon bike for my needs, but still, Im curious if anyone ever had experience with the brand? I found reviews, opinions, etc but nothing which would tell me to buy or not buy it specifically. Its a Chinese brand, but thats about it from what I can see.

Thanks for the time and I would prefer constructive feedback if possible :)

Question: Should I raise a warranty claim or upgrade?

    Hi Lemmings!

I have my Deck since March 2022. I was one of the fortunate ones to receive it quite soon.

Lately I noticed two things: The right joysticks movement is not as smooth as it was before and sometimes it makes a creaking noise.

The "A" button lost some of its resistance and become super sensitive in some games registering twice per button push. For example in a text heavy game I often skip dialogues because of this.

The device is in a perfect working order, no abuse, no damage, screen protector since day 1, protective skin applied, etc.

My question: Should I contact Valve and ask for a repair..

...or maybe try to get some nice replacement parts and upgrade the buttons and joysticks?

How does the available replacements compare to original parts? Are they an improvement? Or should I go the safe route and let Valve repair it for me?

: Ability to favourite communities so they will always appear on top of the subscribed list

First of all love the app, its my daily driver now for Lemmy!

I was wondering if you could favourite or "star" communities in the list so they would always show on top of the list? I love to check my feed but also I like to daily browse specific communities. It would help a lot, especially with my growing number of communities subbed.

Many thanks and keep up the great work!
