Right? I’m baffled I had to scroll down this far for a mention of investing, which was my immediate answer, after reading the greentext. And it’s absolutely the thing everybody should be doing with part of their money
And make sure you educate yourself on what colleges your kid is looking into. It sure would suck having all the 529 money get sucked into a scam school that generates debt for unexchangeable course credits.
Also, if you are technically self-employed, 401k + self-employed IRA provides a lot of room for more tax benefits. If you manage to fill those, then you can always open a brokerage account to put additional savings.
Broad market index funds are a popular choice.
Eventually retire so you have time to play those video games and get sleep.
If you are young and there's nothing you really want to do with a significant amount of money, your emergency savings are decently big, and you don't intend to make a significant purchase in the near to mid future, then you find yourself a tax-free retirement account, a world index fund and an S&P 500 index fund and distribute money across them with the priority being reaching whatever is the max in the first one
If all of my money had gone into a charity it would have been, “Junkies Helping Junkies Not Get Dope Sick No More”. :p
Here at junkies, we split shots. We don’t get high. You found some dope on a gas station floor? Three people won’t get sick today. Or, Brenda will convince you that her tolerance is insane because of a recent stay at the hospital, she’ll get half and we’ll split half. She’ll nod out and she won’t be welcome at Junkies Helping Junkies Not Get Dope Sick No More no more.
For real though, been sober for at least a decade at this point. It is crazy how much money people burn through with that little hobby. I don’t miss that life and I’m thankful to be away from it, so if I did accidentally become wealthy I’d give some back to the community that helped me get here. I’d drop by some local AA and NA groups and drop a pile of money under the 1s pretty often.
consider also investing in your community. find local organizations or mutual aid networks, help friends out and in general find ways to build other people up so that they can be there for you if you ever fall on hard times.
Unironically anon has cracked the big secret of capitalism; the end goal doesn't matter until someone is trying to steal it from you, and they will try because some people are sick in the head
There's an incredible gap between having 10's of thousands of dollars from a couple years of working a job with low expenses and a habit of not spending money and buying a fucking house lol
We are sunsetting Google House in accordance with our wider goal of shutting down everything. You will be evicted on march 2nd, 2024 and all buildings will be demolished between march 31 and june 1st. Thank you for being with us for this project!
Why god?
We launched Google House 7 years ago as an attempt to make shareholders think we are still capable of doing something useful. As we focus on making new short-lived products to perpetuate this lie, we no longer have the resources to maintain our rent collection system.
What will you do with the land?
We didn't think this far but the current plan is to leave them as gravel sanctuaries.
I've broken my PC, Phone, and chair and have been trying to save money to get them fixed for the last 4 months and every time I get extra money something sets me back.
Most recently? Covid. Gotta use saved money to survive while not getting paid. Things are real fuckin neato.
Somebody’s got all my devices hacked and I don’t have the money to replace them. I’ll implement some basic security shit but I really think they’ve got my shit rooted.
Unfortunately, this same jackass uses his billions to subtly influence every company I have to route me into shit work and make me fail. For example right now I work retail, and the sequences of customers that show up and waste my time is too non-random to believe. Again and again, the moment one non-buying customer finally relents and let’s me go, the next one shows up within five seconds.
So I can’t get ahead to get the money to get my devices un-hacked. It sucks.
A long time ago, before he made the money, I remember we had a debate about whether a billionaire could prevent an ordinary person from succeeding. I argued that they couldn’t, that our society is a free one and that a rich person targeting a poor person couldn’t result in that poor person being unable to succeed.
Now he’s showing me wrong. And I don’t think he’s going to let up.
Or if you like something more adventurous, put half into developing a time machine and then half into repeating bitcoin speculations, accumulate them on a secure usb drive with s password protection, forget password and then give teams of world renowned hackers limited tries to break it. I've read about the last part a couple of months ago. They bought the same drives and claim that they reverse engineered them on a hardware level to get the idea how their software protection works. Yet, there just two tries left and the guy is not fast to reach an agreement.
God this was me when I lived at home. Now 70% of my paycheck goes to my landlord. I'm still able to save because I'm frugal as heck but holy shit it would be so much easier without my landlord fucking me in the ass monthly.
