Same. I've installed a few apps to keep an eye on their development, but web is still my favourite for now. Some of the apps have gestures and easily collapsible threads, but UIs aren't completely polished yet.
Another (mostly) happy Connect user here! It's crazy the blistering pace at which the Dev keeps pumping out updates. I keep alternating between Connect and Thunder. I think Liftoff still needs some UI polish and it doesn't handle jumping to communities in different instances very gracefully.
Connect here too. Jerboa kept crashing on me. When it did load it couldn't connect. When it could connect it wouldn't load in icons and left some posts blank.
The latest update broke Jerboa for me so I've just jumped onto Connect and I've got to say I like it! Only complaint is there is no clear divider between posts so visually is a bit blurry but I can live with that.
Edit; turns out the latest version of connect fixes my complaint! Very happy
Coming from RIF, I've found Connect to be the most similar of all the ones I've tried so far (not out of the box, but it has some great customization options in the settings). I'm also so impressed by how fast new features are getting added.
Connect for Lemmy at the moment, but I've signed up to be notified when Sync for Lemmy drops. Sync had everything I wanted for my Reddit app, and I'm hoping for a similar interface for Lemmy when it arrives.
Hell yeah, same boat for me. Connect is actually pretty damn close to sync functionality which makes it easier to transition while waiting for sync for lemmy
Yeah just found it today and I quite like it so far. Had been using Jerboa but the after v0.0.37 that was pushed out made it's just crashing on startup since I was logged into lemmy.world. However I would like to see an option to not merge the feeds of all logged in accounts. I prefer a UX to switch what account I'm viewing with and see only the subscriptions of the selected account.
Apparently my desired feature is already present. From the Home tab the Subscribed/Local/All button expands to let you pick which logged in account to show.
I'm testing connect right now and so far it works very well. Unfortunately Jerboa crashed for me all the time since the last update. I'm still hoping for a bacon reader version for Lemmy.
Thunder looks and feels amazing. But idk why the exception handling stuff just ain't there yet. This will improve with updates but at the moment if the app comes across anything it's not coded to do, it'll crash.
I guess so I never used Apollo I used to use infinity for reddit but I'm definitely liking it so far except up voting or downvoting is two taps away instead of one.
edit: it's one tap away I'm still learning how to use it sorry.
It's a PWA. Open it on your browser then click the 3 dot menu and select "Install". That'll put an icon on your home screen and it will behave as a regular app. It will open "Fullscreen" meaning it won't have the browser interface.
It's a web app but it integrates fairly well. I'm testing it out now and it seems ok. I've been a sync user for many years though so when that's ready I'll swap over most likely.
I just wish these clients would take some cues from the way Relay does its "List" view. Thunder's list view is getting there, but it's still way too crowded. Connect's is worse, it's just evenly spaced details for each post, which then blends into the space between each post.
Honestly, not sure at this point. Jerboa has the fullest features as far as everything goes. Every other app has been missing some key functionally for me to varying degrees. Not to say any of them aren't good, but none have truly, ultimately impressed me yet. Sync was my go-to on Reddit, so I have very high hopes for that launch. If I had to pick one alternative that I could use, but still doesn't quite tic all the boxes, it's Thunder. Especially right now, as Jerboa crashes on launch.
EDIT: Liftoff is where it's at. It has all the features other third-party apps are still missing.
Started with Jerboa, but it started crashing on me yesterday (plus, it apparently isn't working right now with lemmy.world). So I tried Liftoff yesterday, which I'm using to comment this. Definitely going to Sync again once it's done!
I originally used Jerboa. It was okay, but not quite what I was looking for. I've tried Connect and Liftoff and like those better. I'm waiting for Sync, as that was my Reddit app of choice.
I'm so tired of that, Especially when a site says to use their app and won't let you keep browsing the site because the popup is in the way.. Why even have the website anymore.
So far I've tried Jerboa, liftoff and wefwef. Being a RIF user for many years I feel Jerboa is closest to the UX but I am more comfortable with wefwef. Ask me again tomorrow as I will probably try other alternatives. This is like the good ole Linux distro hopping days when I tried over 30 distros before settling with KDE neon for the last 3 years.
Jerboa was updated to only work with servers on Lemmy version 0.18, a day before the update was available to admins to install. IDK why it isn't updated still, unless they're doing testing.
Jerboa for now. The other ones I've tried were not information dense, only showing 3 or 4 posts on screen at a time, or had other issues. Looking forward to trying Artemis and Sync.
Jerboa, but can't wait for Sync to be released. If it's anything like the Reddit app, it'll be amazing (obviously after many iterations and testing etc).
Yeah, I’m gonna wait for things to settle down for a bit before trying apps out. I’m surprised how well everything works on safari so I’m not in any rush
What version is your instance on? I thought the app crashed because world is still on version 17. But maybe it is something else? It worked great until today for me
Well, most of my the on Reddit was through an iPhone, so I came to like Apollo (I know us users were kinda like a rabid cult). But wefwef.app is crazy nice clone of Apollo and is a webapp so it works on Android!
I actually just heard of connect in this thread, installed it, and immediately deleted jerboa. I have been daily driving lemmy for like 2 weeks now and this is the first I heard of connect. Wonder when it launched?
started with connect for lemmy. which is visually very clean but it neither has an edit comment function nor a block user function yet. lemming has both functions but loks a lot more clunky.
Using Jerboa right now, but to be frank: I haven't tried any other apps, because I am actually waiting for Slide, so whenever that launches I'll switch.
The web shortcut has been working excellent for me as well (firefox here). Be using that for time being. Monitoring Artemis for kbin though. Alpha looking VERY polished.
Yeah this is my "app" after someone posted about it. It works crazy good for Lemmy. Like luckily the website is mobile friendly so it looks pretty much exactly like a mobile app would complete with a lemmy icon.
Until the other apps start offering very compelling features I'll keep using it. It'll basically have any new features Lemmy adds by default the second my instance updates lol.
Thats what I did as well. Installed the PWA and placed it on my homescreen, where Sync for Reddit used to be. Soon, I will switch to Sync for Lemmy. ♥️
Flipping between thunder and liftoff, thunder is my preferred app but it is very slow loading feeds and scrolling compared to liftoff, once this is fixed back I go.
Tried some others like connect for Lemmy but the whole UI feels 'off' can't put an exact word to it just a feeling!
New user here. I use the Web app for now. Connect seems to make my phone freeze for whatever reason and I can't seem to login with jerboa because "my server version is too low"...
I tried Jerboa and it was very similar to RiF but too basic, I'm using Thunder rn and it's also similar to RiF but has more features than Jerboa, not perfect but definitely trending that way.
I'd like to see the content and user filtering capabilities that RiF has/had, as well as the security and privacy functionality.
I know this is more of a Lemmy side feature, but I'd also love for a "Top this Hour" sort as well.
Jerboa is the most feature-complete, but it crashes pretty often and it adopts new Lemmy API versions a bit early, so all instances don't always have the time to get updated. Besides, the look is simple and functional, but I can't say it's pretty.
So far, I really like Thunder's looks, interface and UX. It's not very intuitive, but the swipe-based gesture system is really promising, and so far it's also the prettiestt. It still lacks many important features (editing posts and comments), but they're not essential enough to prevent me from using them, and I've been mostly browsing with that in the last few days.
Liftoff looks really good as well. As others said, it looks a lot like Infinity, which was my go-to Reddit app. However, I don't like the dark theme options we have so far: dark is too light, and AMOLED is a single black screen, which makes posts hard to distinguish at a glance. Once we get more theming options, I might switch to Liftoff.
Only used connect so far so can't comment on the others. Feels nice and smooth, looks great and has some nice features. Liftoff seems to be the go to here, might check it out.
Currently the PWA for the most part. Jerboa is a close second but doesn't support gifs. I also have a custom theme on my instance which I like better than the Jerboa defaults.
I tried Jerboa and I couldn't login, now giving wefwef a try. Wefwef works but it's a PWA with iOS theme. I'd like to switch to App that is close to the original Android Reddit app.
Personally, I use Jerboa on mobile. It's got its own problems and compatibility issues, but they're also not so significant that it makes me want to go use another app, and with lemmy.world still being on an older version that probably isn't compatible with most apps that work for 0.18 and above, the risk of breaking everything makes it not that worthwhile.
0.18 is a bit of a breaking change, due to changes in how posts and comemnts work, so newer versions of Jerboa don't work with older servers, and older versions won't work on new servers.
I am using jerboa but really miss redreader, the creator floated making it support lemmy and I am excited for that possibility but am sticking with jerboa for now.
I have been happy whith jerboa, though since the latest update which doesn't work well with my instance (not updated yet) I have tried a lot of different apps. My favorites so far are jerboa (when it works), connect for lemmy and liftoff.
All have pros and cons, but all seem eager to improve.
