I find when I'm stoned it'll take me half an hour to read a single paragraph because I either get distracted and start thinking about something else mid sentence, or I'll read the same paragraph several times because I forgot what I just read. The ADD is real lol
My mind tends to wander super hard and I constantly get that thing where I read a paragraph word by word, but dont comprehend a larger meaning which then forces me to go back and re-read the paragraph. Repeat ad nauseum
It is harder but I read my comfy books I memorised almost already so it isnāt a problem if I lose track and regain it page later. for me the visualisations when reading get much more immersive and alive if I can get past the suddenly loud narrator voice, itās pretty funny
Try reading on a few hits of LSD. 10/10 experience except when you get deja vu when reading a new book and then descend into madness before returning to the book.
This only works depending on how baked you are though. I worked for a major metropolitan public library system a long time ago, and one time a dude wandered in smelling heavily of weed, and wearing only one shoe. He came up to the circulation desk and asked to order a pizza. When informed that it was a library and didn't have pizza, he blinked and looked around, and upon seeing all the shelves of books, he said "Oh.", and then turned around and left. To this day I never know if he ever found some pizza or his other shoe.
For a time, while I was in court trying to get custody of my son, I was only given like 2 hours of parental time with him, once a week. Drop-off point was an hour from my home, so there wasn't really much I could do with him apart from go to parks (in the summer) and the library. It was a life saver for just giving me time to be a Dad. Public libraries are one of the greatest things in human society, just a place you can go to exist as a person. Almost nothing is expected of you apart from wearing clothes, shoes, don't masturbate where people can see you, and respect the books.
Society doesnāt exist for the sole benefit of the upstanding and idealized. I want libraries to exist for those striving to gain education for self betterment yes, I want them to exist as places of entertainment and existence for those down on their luck as well, but also a place where a person who is intoxicated in a way where they arenāt causing a disturbance can embrace the beauty of the world is also a valuable function.
And shit, I wish there could be weed and acid/shrooms days at zoos. Iād love to trip at a zoo
That is super fucked. Going to the library, grabbing a stack of comics, and then settling down in a quiet corner to read them was one of my happy places as a kid.
I had a library card, but I didn't bother checking out stuff I could just read during the hours I hung out at the library. And the place was comfy, quiet heaven.
That letter makes it sound like sitting in the corner and reading stuff in the library is fine.
It seems to suggest that there are some shitty parents trying to use it as a free day care and letting their shitty kids trash the place, which only makes things more difficult for the kids trying to use it like a library.
I think people are getting angry at the symptom and not cause.
The cause is that children and teens don't have anywhere to go, so they all went to the library. I imagine you have different groups of children/teenagers interacting with each other causing problems.
Instead of getting mad at the library, we all should be getting mad at community for not providing other options for children/teenagers to go. Places like skate parks, community centers, drop in programs, etc. places were children/teenagers can go hang out free.
Our local libraries literally encourage kids to loiter there. They have tons of programs, activities, and events throughout the week aimed at younger and older kids alike. There's even sections dedicated to all demographics with toys for younger kids and anime/videogames/,etc for older kids.
Thatās how it should be. As a childless 30 year old I want kids hanging out at libraries. Ideally Iād like them reading and discussing literature, but just being somewhere that they have access to information is better than not
Lmao I've done this same thing at my old uni. I went to the second floor and asked to look at the language-learning books. Sat down, browsed a few, and tried the learning method on one for a bit to see if I'd like it for an hour, then got up and left. The girl at the reception was so confused and told her coworker in complete surprise as I left.
I think I'll go find that book online now that I think about it.
It really depends on what kind of library youāre at. University libraries: you may not find a spot to sit if youāre at the wrong time, hell I know a professor who hangs out at a different universityās library reading and writing; major city public libraries: thereās probably a few people doing so and it isnāt weird; small town/suburb/small urban branch public libraries: itās very local culture dependent, but youāll definitely find a decent chunk of them seeing it as strange
I literally just finished a chapter of a book whilst toking a spliff, and then I see this meme lol.
I'm reading Blue Rage, Black Redemption if anyone is curious. I think I'm reaching the end, so I'm up for any recommendations perhaps autobiographical. The one I enjoyed before this was the NOFX Hepatitis Bathtub and Other Stories.
I haven't read either, however I do respect Les so I'll be giving that a shot.
Definitely interested in the latter, Google says it's non fiction. Thank you! Very interesting choices I haven't heard of :) I'll be... Obtaining them soon.
