President-elect Donald Trump is charged in the case by special counsel Jack Smith with crimes related to trying to undo his defeat in the 2020 election.
And just watch the neck breaking speed the Republicans rush through their political persecution cases. I expect to see Democrats in prison by the end of the first or second year.
This is really the worst part of this whole thing. If a 'normal' politician with his exact platform had won the election, it wouldn't feel nearly as bad. It'd still be awful, but not nearly as bad. The fact that he's getting away with all of this shit, that's the real kick in the teeth. It's a complete hemorrhage of justice and it really just hammers home how utterly fucked the system is. There is no justice, unless the perpetrator is poor and/or brown, and that should piss everyone off, regardless of political affiliation.
I've spent the better part of the last year trying to convince people to hold their nose and vote blue to stop exactly this from happening, and that clearly was for nothing... I've got a lot of anger that I'd love to redirect at this new source of outrage. If you've got any insights on developing movements to rally around, I'd love to hear about it.
Organize for what, exactly? A big reason he shouldn't be in office is because he incited an insurrection on January 6 to overturn an election. Any kind of organization to prevent him taking office would also be an attempt to overturn an election.
If you have a different goal in mind, I'm all ears. But I've been crying that democracy and elections are sacred and I'll be damned if I'm going to change my mind because it's gone the other way.
My fellow Americans, if you sat out the election because Harris didn’t excite you enough or she wasn’t perfect, what’s coming from Trump is on you.
And if you voted for Jill Stein because you don’t understand how foreign aid is established (it’s via Congress) or you believed the hype of “genocide” or that Republicans weren’t worth your protests, what’s coming to Gaza is on you.
To some extent I dislike them less than non voters. Yeah theyre dumb and voted for a Russian plant who openly admitted she wanted to stop Harris but... At least they showed up. They did something.
Non voters are lazy fucks who deserve everything coming. They didn't do the bare minimum. I don't care your reasons. You let fascism in and didn't even bother to do your civic duty, even if it was doing a write in.
I think it's more likely that he looked at how much work his team has done and how much they have left to do. My guess is 2 months isn't enought time with current resources.
Nope. Pausing because the JD doesn’t investigate sitting presidents, and having the team work on this for another 2 months would be a waste of their time.
I said from day one, the dog and pony show will come to an end the day after the election, regardless who won, because that's all it's been, is a dog and pony show. The oligarchy will never convict one of their own.
I'm glad the prosecutor in charge of prosecuting treason and a coup decided to spend his time and political capital solving a cool procedural puzzle. I'm sure nobody will be smart enough to see he took a legitimate question and acted disproportionately.
I think he relished having his hands tied so they wouldn't have to get dirty. Because getting your hands dirty means silver shirts will threaten or harm your family.
Yeah I could see this argument working for Mueller, maybe. But Jack Smith has been pretty on the ball this whole time. There are a couple things I wished he would've done faster, but I understand his reasoning. The problem is we let conservatives completely corrupt the judiciary the last 40 years. I can't really fault Jack Smith for that. I don't think he has relished any of this whatsoever.
