Sources say three arrested in connection with fire that damaged Big Mac Bridge

62% of Americans agree US government should ensure everyone has health coverage
  • No she lost because people like you convince everyone that "both sides are the same." They are far from it and Dems are worth voting for because in our electoral system they're the better choice (and the only realistic one.) That and people don't do their CIVIC DUTY. It's not incumbent on anyone to get you to vote at all. Go vote 3rd party for all I care but at least go vote.

And big changes tend to happen after big events. If you're so hopeless then go be a Luigi. I would accept that. But I quite frankly am not looking at starting a civil war before we've at least tried to vote change in. And we clearly haven't tried given that people don't do it every single damn time.

And what big changes? I'd argue the ACA was one. Same with the IRA. You might not think so because it's not single payer wrapped up with a bow or that the IRA didn't immediately take us down from 1.5*C change but they are big. And they were done with VOTING. If you don't recall, healthcare was abhorrent compared to what we have with the ACA. And maybe if people went and voted Dem since that was passed we'd either have a true public option or be even closer to single payer. But they didn't so we're not. Funny that.

If you want to lose forever, keep doing what you’re doing.

Quite frankly, I vote left in primaries and Dem in general.

If YOU want to lose forever, keep your ass at home and your involvement contained to bitching online. Surely we'll get to a better place then. /s

  • It's tragic. But hey- where were the people voting in primaries to oust Liebermann? And Biden and company just passed the biggest climate bill ever. But sure- take your ball and go home. I'm sure things will magically get better by being lazy.

I think the turning point for being mature is when people realize that politics is not about big changes. Maybe they campaign on them but things don't happen like that. It takes a long time even if the answer is obvious. Thinking that all of a sudden the US will dismantle the healthcare and health insurance industries in ONE term of Congress when it underpins a ton of the economy (which includes people's jobs mind you- not just made up crap on the stockmarket) is foolish. It is a leviathan and will take time to eventually get to universal with insurance (ie. public and private) or single payer, etc.

And FWIW, it's easier for Republicans to get what they want because all they want to do is break things. Trying to build something takes time. But again, go off.

  • 62% of Americans agree US government should ensure everyone has health coverage
  • Yeah, that's kind of how it works.

Do you think the tea party got their fascist takeover in 2010? No, they worked years and years and kept pushing their party further to the right every single time until it finally happened.

Imagine that- you have to put in a couple hours of work at most every year or two for so many years to actually get what you want. Oh how absolutely awful that burden is. /s

  • When leftists say "landlord are parasites" or similar dislike of landlords, do they also mean the people that own like a couple of houses as an investment, or only the big landlords?
  • Presumably because he/she is a person who wants to live somewhere without the hassle of having to own a house and that is impossible without landlords. And they are not the only one like that.

So your idea that all of it is parasitism has met someone, arguably you mean to help, who likes landlords. Because despite what some people think, a lot don't want to sign on the immense debt for a house nor maintain it. Landlords provide a service in that case and why is it your right to deny renters and landlords that service?

That doesn't mean there aren't parasitic landlords because there very much are. But a blanket statement that it's all bad seems foolish. Perhaps nuance is very much lost on people nowadays.

  • Why I Trust Signal: My Go-To for Secure Messaging - YouTube
  • I almost think that's a pro. I don't understand how signal intends to pay for servers forever with voluntary donations. Though I'd be fine if they set up a mandatory annual fee.

Signal is far more polished IMO but both are great.

  • *Permanently Deleted*
  • People somehow think this stuff costs nothing I guess. The era of everything free on the internet has really made people blind to the fact this all costs money, one way or another.

  • Never gonna give you up 🏹
  • Pssh. I mean, I voted. I did my part. Millions others though didn't.

I don't why lemmy people find it so hard to not blame the DNC and actually blame the people who either voted for fascism or did nothing to stop it. Maybe because some of them are the very same as the latter.

    Bengals lose a heartbreaker

Anyone surprised? Saw that loss coming.

Brilliant coaching to run all 3 downs and trust a long field goal. Playing not to lose surely is the best strategy.

    Bengals win!

    Who would've thought.

How we feeling about Hell is Real?

We're down Robinson and Murphy I believe due to yellow card accumulation. Not feeling great about that.

    Nightly mobile URL bar

Anyone else hate this? I don't want a dumbed down bar. If Im on the homepage, I want to know. Same as if I'm on a subpage.

This is in reference to Mozilla changing the URL to ALWAYS show only the domain. Absolutely terrible IMO. As for the double tall menu now? That is mostly fine.

At least give me an option to see the full url.

Anyone think Urban was better with the pulp?

Maybe it's just me but I feel like Urban Artifact beers were better when they weren't filtered like they are now. Feel like there is a dramatic loss of flavor compared to the pulpy goodness it was before.

    Thoughts on the offseason?

Looks like we picked up a safety, resigned Sample to a 3 year deal, and released Mixon after getting that RB from the Colts.

How we feeling about more signings? Feel like we're short on O-line yet again but maybe they have plans.

FCC move on in the CCL!

On to face Monterey and meet Vasquez again.

    Go FCC!

    Best distro for linux gaming?

Unsure if this is the place to ask or not but figured it was closest to it.

Basically I am looking to make an AIO retro gaming PC. Main goal is to have one simple box hooked up to the TV so my friends and I can game without having to swap discs and consoles all the time. Would probably use mostly DS3 (or 4?) controllers hooked up with USB or via BT.

I know lemmy doesn't much care about piracy but this is all just to play games/consoles we legally own. Would include PS1-3, Nintendo, SNES, N64, Gamecube (think that is all we have).

I think https://batocera.org/ has been mentioned, Lakka (maybe this is more for pis?), and EmuDeck has been mentioned. Basically looking for the easiest distro to throw on a PC with a nice UI (can be launched via kb/mouse, all the same to me) that has the emulators built in and just needs the ROMs.

    Best holiday foods?

Basically looking for the best eggnog, German pastries, etc.

Used to buy hartzel? Eggnog but I'm not sure where it's sold anymore. Any other good places to get German holiday foods other than servatii?
