Yeah, but then they'd have to start paying federal income taxes. That's a big part of why their statehood referendums are always so close, it's a legit pros and cons list.
Last time "yes" did win by just a few percentage points though.
I think it's weird that most of his other base are basically cucks in this regard. "I don't care about you, I need your votes" and they eat it right up, can't get enought of the alienation. But he's picked up some bad habits due to it
In response to questions on the comments, and whether Trump was planning to publicly denounce them, Trump campaign press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement, “Due to President Trump’s plans to cut taxes, end inflation, and stop the surge of illegal immigrants at the southern border, he has more support from the Hispanic American community than any Republican in recent history.”
News outlets need to stop giving non-responses space in their stories. The PR people don't answer questions because they can just say whatever pro-candidate message they want and the journalists will print it. Say they gave a response that didn't address the subject and move on, don't promote their alternate messaging.
Someone should've reminded him Puerto Rico is an American territory, and its residents are full fledged American citizens. While the island itself gets no electoral college votes, any of its citizens living in one of the 50 states get the same rights and privileges as the rest of us.
A lot of someones did remind him of that after Hurricane Maria, when he loudly bragged about getting on the phone with "the president of Puerto Rico" and was subsequently reminded that that was him.
Honestly, that's probably 90% of the reason he even went to Puerto Rico (and threw paper towel rolls at them).
Not a single Trump voter changed their minds.
The Trump Puerto Ricans agree with this. They just think it's the 'others' fault.
This may even get them TO vote since someone sees the 'problems' they live with. This is how EVERY group that votes Trump against their own interest feel.
They 100% don't know they are included with the 'problem'
People who are the butt of such jokes have an innate tendency to agree and pretend it’s not about them because they’re one of the good ones. It’s sad but that’s basically the same thing happening with the white people the Nazis deemed weren’t pure enough, or the whites the early US settlers used to hate on. In another time, JD Vance would have been too Irish to be Trumps VP. That’s what this whole ideology is based on, there’s no fixed in group, the out group target is always changing.
A reason why some German Jews supported Hitler was that they thought that his anti-Semitism was only for "stirring up the masses".[1] Also, they adhered to a kind of respectability politics that led many non-Jews in the German Reich to congratulate the VnJ with the phrase, "If only all Jews were like you."[2]
It's even worse: it's "I never thought the leopards who said they would eat all faces and actually ate several on live TV would ever actually eat any faces," says person voting for leopards eating faces party because they promised to eat faces.
No it's not. This is bullshit. Nothing Trump does alienates his voters. GO VOTE. I have it on good authority that Trump could literally shoot someone in Times Square in broad daylight and somehow not lose a single vote for it and at this point I fucking believe it.
The Trump Puerto Ricans agree with trash island comments . They just think it's the 'others' fault things are that way.
This may even get them TO vote since someone sees the 'problems' they live with. This is how EVERY group that votes Trump against their own interest feel.
They 100% don't know they are included with the 'problem'
Do I think all the morons present finally understand what they are supporting? Nope. But in a tight race, you only need a couple here and there to win.
With the controversy I watched the entire routine. It was cringey punching down the nearly entire set. He asked the Latinos to cheer, then joked that all the Latinos present were evidence of illegal border crossings. The one bit of hope I got watching it is there were few people laughing and cheering at the horrible jokes. The main positive crowd reactions were from empty platitudes of how good America is, and a joke about Harris.
Funniest thing is that if that dude had just said, "Cuba," this would have been a non-issue. The joke structure would have been exactly the same, and it would have still been a dog whistle for racists, but Cuban Americans are largely anti-communist ex-pats. They probably wouldn't have been thrilled to hear Cuba described as garbage, but if they got angry, it probably would have blown over by saying, "the joke was a reference to what communism has done to cuba." Instead, he picked an island full of people that can easily move to the US mainland and vote. Absolutely spectacular.
Forgive my pessimism, but while this is the sort of thing that could sink a "normal" campaign, the cult of personality around Trump has been weathering stuff like this since 2016 or even earlier. I'll believe that this is impacting voter sentiment when I see it reflected in the results after election day. Until then, it just feels like more wishful thinking.
It is (I watched that exact site the last two cycles). It's being manipulated to hell now since lots of people started paying attention to it. None of the betting sites are accurate (just like modern polls).
You can't bet on it, but it aggregates the odds from other sites.
Basically, if someone who does the research is actually die-hard believing Trump can't win Pennsylvania, they can make a good amount of cash by betting on Harris in the next 2 weeks.
But the fact we see all these articles and Trump's odds have (only increased), probably means these articles are horse shit
Please understand that your special interest for betting on electoral outcomes, which you developed in 2016 due to your Statistics Prof betting on a Trump win, is not something that you need to share with other people. Betting is sad and tawdry, and telling people that a political platform which doesn't do much to differentiate itself from harmful authoritarianism is quite likely to win is also harmful.
I'm posting it because people are huffing copium thinking "Trump is done!!" When there's a lot more that needs to be done by the left still. People read news articles like this and get complacent because they think the dems have secured Pennsylvania, but it's not true.
