2024 Presidential Election Megapost!
  • Yeah it's daft.

Every Trump voter interviewed says something like "yeah he's not perfect but I'm concerned about the economy".

What they actually mean is that they have no idea how the economy works but Trump makes them feel better about hating minorities.

  • Everyone is frustrated right now.

You're the only one expressing your despair and frustration by accusing the people on your own side of letting you down.

Of course your feelings are valid and you're entitled to express them however you wish, I just feel like doing so right now in this thread is more harmful than beneficial.

  • Counting before polls close would influence voting. Even if it were "secret" you could publish fake leaks. It would devolve into a shit show of misinformation, even though we do have that already.

  • I'm multi-screening about five different media sources and am letting you know that The New York Times just updated its live presidential forecast to predict a 67% chance of a Trump victory.

The day started out with the NYT in a toss-up position, but as the count has continued, it has started to slowly creep towards Trump.

Let's remember that many votes are yet to be counted and that in 2016, this same tracker at The New York Times was predicting a Clinton victory with 95% certainty.

  • Mate, things are gloomy enough right now without this type of accusatory comment.

Everyone has voted, the die is cast, if we lose everyone left of centre will be in mourning for a long time.

There's a lot I could say about your position and opinions but I just don't think this is the place.

I'd encourage you to think carefully about the type of commenter you want to be in this very troubled time.

  • Predictably, musk is pushing the "voter fraud in pensylvania" narrative.

Thousands of accounts on social media platform X have been sharing this video as evidence of the "fraud" in Pennsylvania.

But the footage is actually an old and widely debunked video of election workers in Arizona that was filmed in 2022 ahead of the US midterms.

Reuters has previously reported that what the video actually shows is a "routine procedure to install memory cards into voter machines".

Despite this, the video has already been viewed hundreds of thousands of times and reposted extensively.

Global coral bleaching event biggest on record: US agency

A global episode of heat-related coral bleaching has grown to the largest on record, US authorities said Friday, sparking worry for the health of key marine ecosystems.

From the beginning of 2023 through October 10, 2024, "roughly 77 percent of the world's reef area has experienced bleaching-level heat stress," Derek Manzello of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) told AFP.

When ocean water is too warm—such as during heat waves which have hit areas from Florida to Australia in the past year—coral expel their algae and turn white, an effect called "bleaching" that leaves them exposed to disease and at risk of dying off.

How to Promote Phishing and Scam Awareness

Just wondered how others promote threat awareness for friends, family, co-workers, and clients.

Every few weeks I email a half dozen employees & family members explaining one or other phishing attempt I've seen, just to keep it in peoples minds.

I heard someone else talking about a kind of email pen-testing service you can sign up for and they send scammy emails to see if the recipient falls for it. Seems like a great idea but only viable for me if it's very cheap.

I could link to something on privacyguides.org in my email footer but I think that's just virtue signalling more than anything actually useful.
