they're named after three characters from the "Dungeon Crawler Carl" litrpg series, which is surprisingly entertaining. i collectively call them the dungeon crawlers.
Welcome... even though it's my first day here myself! Was a semi-regular at the old place, but have dropped it with all the crap going on and the way they're treating their community.
Signed up here yesterday and definitely much more going on DT-wise!
I've been a Mastodon convert for a fair while now as well, thankfully a lot of my tech/retrocomputing interests line up with the user base, so I'm enjoying it so fart!
I work from home, in the garage most of the time. I just left the garage to come into the house, and the fluffy little dude meowed at me, walked to the bedroom and meowed again. I followed him and he jumped up on the bed and meowed, so I sat down and he went straight onto my lap! Totally made my day, he's not a super outwardly affectionate cat very often.
Nice. My lovely mumma cat is still getting used to human affection, but at least she sleeps beside me and comes onto the desk for a chin scritch. One only time has she curled up on my lap and I picked her up that time. She's had a full on life though I imagine but the rescue people didn't tell me much about it.
After posting my dinner I realised I may have been insensitive to the fact that some people might be struggling right now. My apologies if I have caused any discomfort. So thought I might share some of my cost saving secrets because I like you guys. We are on a one low income so I know how it feels. Here we go.
We have never ordered ubereats. If we get take away my husband goes and gets it. We eat from local take away or we get specials from fast food. We have cut this down from once a week to once a fortnight. We eat out on special occasions.
I go to the local butchers for my meat. If I don't eat red meat I feel fainty due to low blood pressure so I spread my meat consumption of the week. Most meat I buy is the cheaper cuts plus one special lamb product (that's why we had ribs tonight). Sometimes I'll see a two for deal at Coles like sausages or hamburgers and I'll freeze them. Every 6 months I have to defrost my little freezer so we live off whatever is in there, defrost it, fill it back up.
The vegetables I have in my freezer all the time are peas, beans, broccoli and corn on the cob when it's available. Everything else I get fresh from the market when in season.
The things that I have in my pantry all the time are pasta, rice, cous cous, chickpeas, canned tomatoes, baked beans, tuna, corn.
I check for half price specials every week. I only buy them if I need them. No point having 6 bottles of shampoo in my cupboard. Also on shampoo and conditioner, I buy pump packs when they're $6 each. It's shampoo and conditioner it's all the same.
I try to make the evening meal serve 4 so my husband has lunch the next day or I'll make enough for 6 meals so we can have leftovers for dinner the next night.
I freeze bread. You can't beat toast. Ever.
I can't think of anything else right now but if you want me to answer any questions I'll be happy to answer them.
It has to be a problem with the date, bot won't work after midnight. It's eather Cinderella or a gremlin. Next attempt will be before midnight, if that posts it will be a stopgap solution at least while I work out the issues. Maybe I can check the dark web for bot viagra.
I might joke around but I could only imagine it's frustrating. I do appreciate all the effort you put in and I really am cheering for you and your mysterious friend.
It's like learning to fly with only a pilot training manual. Lots of really great detailed information, but what you really need is for someone to explain where to find a plane๐คฃ Everything I find assumes you know how to put something like this into production and just need help with writing the actual code. But I have code and need to know how to actually use it.
There is a guy in the Brisbane sub who has written code for a daily thread there, I'm hoping he will actually answer my questions and help. Programmers seem more than happy to share code freely, but are very tight lipped with details of how to use it. I think there is some sort of secret handshake or something.
From top left clockwise: Aldi's potato scallop, peas, sauted mushrooms with chives, marinated lamb ribs definitely not burnt just well done, mint jelly. Corn on the cob not pictured.
Please note that the plate is small. (26cm in diameter)
My husband made an observation. He said "I noticed that the smaller ribs did not make the photo but ended up in my lunch". :)
Recieved a disappoining pay rise for the new FY. Despite my employer saying they weren't interested in negotiating the amount, I am asking for more anyway. Worst that can happen is they say no. And let them - so when I leave, they know their tightassery is to blame.
I'm on an EBA which has just expired, which means my employer will spend the next year failing to negotiate, before eventually agreeing to 4% a year for the next three years, with maybe a $1000 one off payment which does not make up for the year without a payrise, and it will be reported in the media as a 12% payrise making everyone think that is an annual rate. Then I get to see people grumble about public servant fatcats wasting public money while actually getting less than average. It's a great life as a wage earner, isn't it?
OK, bot has now been given a process management system to help run continually and not crash completely if there is an error. Not sure if it will help with the not posting at/after midnight issue, but it can't hurt and will give me a bit more information.
I have instructed the bot to post at 11:55, but after past failures am much less hopeful it will actually work โน๏ธ I've added in a few more test posts elsewhere at various intervals to try and get some more information about what is going wrong. At the moment the theory that the cat is sabotaging it seems as likely as anything else. It is very frustrating that every single test I do works perfectly, and the actual post doesn't.
TNG is my favourite, until I re-watch DS9 again. I've just finished my DS9 rewatch, which I do every few years. Next re-watch will be VOY but I have to psych myself up for annoying Neelix. Well, until he improves a lot.
So while all you intellectuals are discussing social media my simple brain is thinking about dinner. Airfried marinated lamb ribs with peas, aldi scallop potatoes, sauted mushrooms and maybe corn on the cob. I cannot wait.
Sounds yummy (except for the peas, evil leguminous little bastards that should have no place in a respectable meal).
I'm not sure I can find much enthusiasm for cooking tonight. I was planning a chicken stir-fry, but might end up reheating some frozen hokkien nooodles.
Day 10 of my exercises completed. This morning I snuck into my MIL's back room, which is like a sun room/family room, and did them there. So much space! I think I will continue this from now on. She isn't up early so I'm not disturbing her, and she's said she doesn't mind me using the space.
Yesterday I set a target of 2500 steps and we were busy at work so I ended up doing 6129. It won't be anything like that today because I'll be standing at a bench hand stretching pizza bases and cutting dough.
Fun fact about daily steps, you don't actually have to get 10k steps a day. It's recommended you get 6k - 8k steps a day to see improvements. Anything more it just plateaus.
Hey you're right, I remember reading something about it being a setting on a brand of pedometer, or the Japanese symbol for 10,000 looks like a walking man or something like that. Thank goodness, I think that'd be pushing it ATM!
No it doesn't. I get minimum 20k steps/day, and I get other guys (as well as the occasional woman) telling me I have nice legs. You may get diminishing returns above 6k, but more is better.
You are doing so well. I'm not doing well with being consistant. I'm trying to work out the best time to add the weights workout into my routine, but it does not fit easily. I somewhat like doing it after work, but working 12 hour days makes it hard. On my days off I tend to get wrapped up in ongoing projects and not get to it. I want to find a time that will work to make a firm committment to myself to do it, not having a specific time means I keep putting it off.
I hear you on the whole fitting it in thing. Maybe cut yourself a little slack, I mean 12 hour days.. holy moly! It's hard to fit anything in let alone exercise!
I downloaded an app called Fitness Coach and, seeing as I'm not very cardio fit, set it to a beginner level on a 30 day body shred program. It's pretty simple and has some in app purchases but I'm just using the free things in it. It's working for me so far.
Just want to vent a bit about a really horrible experience trying to go out to trivia in Brisbane tonight. Iโm up here for a work conference and didnโt want to go to the costume dinner thing they had, so booked a table at a local pub thinking Iโd see if another team wanted a solo extra. First off the pub was super seedy and gross, the stickiest place Iโve been to in years. Then the only thing on the menu I could eat (recently developed awful reflux that I think is triggered by onion and garlic) was the pear and rocket salad and you guys, it is in my top 5 worst meals of all time. It was genuinely inedible. Then the trivia host ignored my three separate times as she went table to table. Genuinely ignored me waving and saying excuse me. At that point I just said fuck it and left. Now Iโm sitting back in my hotel room eating yogurt and an apple as the saddest fucking dinner because my anxiety is through the roof. Fuck me. Plus itโs raining so now I have wet jeans that might not dry in time for me to pack them in my suitcase tomorrow.
I'm not a financial person. So a lot of what comes out doesn't make sense to me. But it feels like they're trying to do anything to say we're not in a recession.
I wouldn't mind a free arse blasting initiative from the federal government. We all deserve the luxury of bidets installed in our dunnies for that fresh ring feel.
Got called into work today, did some shuffling of things to make it work. Good call because it was crusiy as and great crew of people today.
Also means I'll get a 4 day weekend this weekend pewww.
Also, went to doctor Saturday morning cos throat was still sore and I was miserable after 2+ weeks. Doctor was awesome. Swabbed my throat which I got a text today was all clear and gave me some super grunty anti biotics and anti inflammatories.
Immediately felt improvement and now by day 3, the pain is gone, swelling is gone down and I'm feeling normal again! Soooo glad to be past all that.
Apparently had covid and also throat infection simultaneously. Really sucked haha. Do not recommend.
Dad's birthday tomorrow and i hadn't thought of gift ideas....... So i may have just ordered a couple hundred dollars worth of Scottish meats and treats to be delivered. Min order was $150 for free delivery so i had to order some for him and some for me :P
Shoutout to the headache gang. I had a joyful one at work and itโs still kind of lingering. So frustrating. Alas, Iโm an uncool kid, so no tacos for me this Tuesday. Itโs pasta, cheesy garlic bread and whatever else I can wrangle. Iโve also been cheeky with my chocolate cookie and chocolate bar this evening. You know, dessert before dinner.
I got some kinda sad news today. So CP wanted me to move out and into lead tenant on the 15th, and I said that was way too soon and I'd want a longer transition to at least early August and proposed August 1st s my official move in date. They said no and that the best they'd give me is the 24th and I should be happy they compromised at all
I mean I guess I am lucky they compromised because usually they dont, but it's just kinda giving me flashbacks to all the random days they've told me I have a few hours to pack my bags and then they ship me off to some new house. I mean, it's still 20 days away, and I have been wanting to move out for the last 4 years, and it's only a week earlier than I was hoping for, but it kinda sucks I don't get to control my own timelines
Also the lead tenant place hasn't even given me the address yet. They gave me the street and suburb, but no number until after the 3rd meeting. I also had to pick out furnitures for my room despite not even knowing how big my room is, so that's fun
My raising suspicions about a medication I was prescribed resulted in my pharmacist discovering a "serious" and potentially "life-threatening" drug interaction with another regular medication I take.
Not sure if I should be shitty that both my GP and the pharmacist didn't pick up on this before dispensing the drug? Thankfully I hadn't started taking it yet.
I recently had to discover myself that a medication i was on has been linked to changes in how your body processes glucose and produces insulin and has been linked to type 2 diabetes. I had a couple of abnormal blood glucose readings in tests that i requested for general health tracking and my doctor was worried enough to send me for further diabetes testing. I found the medication link, weaned myself off and returned my blood glucose to normal levels with no thanks to doc!!
Definitely worth getting outraged about. What the fuck! That is literally their job and not that difficult a task, I imagine, with databases of all these interactions
Years ago I was on some steroid meds for bronchitis and took some cough medicine (not an unusual thing to do when you have a chest infection). I developed really low blood pressure due to drug interactions, and found out later that those 2 medications shouldnโt be taken together. Luckily I was fine but it was scary, and neither the dr or chemist mentioned the risk at the time.
Hmm itโs 3pm and I havenโt been tagged in one single food/taco pic ๐
Which makes me think everyone is too poor to afford food. So free tacos for everyone!!!!
Ahem. For your information. You CAN microwave gratin. Comes out a bit misshapen, but very tasty. It is potato after all. Will be having that tonight with some mushroom and snowpea stirfry. Tacos were lovely for breakfast but I NEED POTAT for a real meal.
PSA to check your hot water bottles for leaks. I got into a wet bed last night and realised mine had wet itself. Thankfully I actually didn't refill it last night so it was left from the previous night and must have just seeped through some very minor crack in the rubber.
So last night I plucked up the courage to call my dad out in a relatively respectful and well rounded manner about some of his recent behaviour and his response was a atrocious, he was genuinely quite horrible to me and it was really hurtful. I responded to one nasty message, but after the second petulant message, I left him to it. Sometimes I think the universe got it a bit topsy turvey and maybe I should've been the parent.
Bleh. Iโve got a headache today. Not too bad at the moment but it does hurt some.
On the phone on hold at the moment and I think the hold music is hurting my head.
Another cold day today. Time to rug up!
After my machine broke from trying to wash my oodie I managed to finally get my oodie dry with a combination of constant wringing and keeping it in a warm room.
Iโm embarrassed to say my hands do hurt from all the wringing.
I just got off the phone with a place for a quote for repairs.
Quoted me I think 155 dollars for the initial call out for 30 mins, 88 dollars per hour thereafter.
I tried to explain the situation and the guy on the phone who was I guess admin and not a technician was so aggressive in trying to book me in for an appointment.
I actually had to stop him and tell him that was in a bad financial situation and how much I was spending on food per fortnight.
I really hate dealing with aggressive salespeople/admin.
Theory: drivers in utes and SUVs are less likely than regular cars to give the thank you gesture if you let them through on a narrow road, even accounting for the frequency of each vehicle type on the road. Does this hold out for you?
I drive an SUV and always to the thank you wave. Sometimes twice, once out the side window for letting me in, and again in the rear view just in case the first one wasn't noticed
This is true. I posted that comment because it's getting hard not to associate those cars with bullying behaviour even though I know there's very legitimate uses for those vehicles.
Is there some kind of unofficial hierarchy when it comes to the length of tradies' shorts? I mean there's a lot of construction happening around here and some of the older blokes, even in the middle of winter, are wearing shorts so small they may as well be hotpants.
They're both comfortable and non-restrictive. You can take a massive step in shorty shorts. Once you start trading, the exercise gets you pretty warm quite fast.
Well since Iโve dubbed today specifically as taco Tuesday, if anyone does have tacos today, whether purchased OR make it themselves and provides a pic with a description (because you know inclusiveness) and tag me. Iโll reply with a Sun infused star ๐ in lieu of there being no awards on this site.
If you tag me with food (because I like food) and itโs not tacos Iโll also give a Sun infused star but a different one โญ๏ธ
There was another version update yesterday afternoon. I like the line, but I think the order of the buttons has changed too, I keep going to preview to check the formatting before I post and hitting reply instead.
With Reddit's changes (albeit I think more people thought it things would be more dramatic than they have been), and Twitter's continuing shit show, alongside Facebook's shadow of it's shadow of its former self... do we think we're seeing or are in the middle of the end of social media in a large sense?
Should clarify: by less savvy I mean "People who do not actively seek out social interactions online unless it is via a platform thrust under their nose as a massive zeitgeist"
I've been farting around on the internet since fredmail, I shall continue farting long after the corporate monoliths have died
I think social media is something that will inevitably have a cycle of growth and collapse. Small groups tend to attract a more creative people that want to make something new. When they are successful that attracts lots of other users and the groups grow. Once they reach a certain size the nature of the group inevitably changes. Maintenance starts to overtake creating, and as it gets bigger the content becomes primarily quick & easy content and things created by those with vested interests (advertisers etc). At that point the type of person who created the initial small site tend to be looking for somewhere else where they have room to create, and the content on the large site becomes more and more recycled content and advertising. Which means the users start to look around for something different - and find some of the things the people who have left earlier have started to create. At which point the cycle starts again.
Personally I think we're just reaching a critical mass with the traditional way social media platforms and advertisements work. The status quo is that all these platforms spring up, get millions of potentially billions in capital from a bunch of rich people who want to be rich, the initial mandate is just "grow grow grow", making a return isn't relevant, as long as you can grow fast enough you keep getting more money
Then eventually you can't do that anymore, you can't get more funding faster than you use it. And now the rich people who gave you money initially are starting to demand it back. All your conventual lons are due back as well. So now you need to monetize. If you make your platform a paid platform, you'll lose a lot, potentially even most, of your user base. And that would make the rich people sad. If you stay free, you need to make your money back from ads.
The issue is, no amount of money is ever enough. The rich people all want to get richer. So even once you've paid back your debts, you still want to make your own money too
Another key part of it is that if it's structured like that, you will always inherently have problems keeping someone happy. Because your users are not your customer, they're you're product. But unlike a conventional product, your users need to be kept happy as well. It's not like a normal product where you just chuck 'em on the shelf and you're off to the races. If you don't keep your products happy, they walk off the shelf and now you have nothing to sell to your customers
I'm hoping this Federation stuff will help with all that, but I do have some worries about how these servers plan on making enough money to not need to shutdown. Donations are good, but can you rely on just donations and nothing else to keep you running? I mean, look at Wikipedia. They get some funding from various organisations and have decently large cash reserves, and we've all seen how aggressively they beg for money
(Edit: I didn't post this multiple times, did I? Jerboa threw a tantrum when I tried to post it)
Funding is definitely a big issue - and one reason that a small server like this one that is not focussed on growth is important. The costs of aussie zone are pretty sustainable (check in the Meta community if you want to know what it is costing), and the growth is limited by having restricted communities and being focussed on a limited population. The other server I have an account on is a lot more chaotic, had unconstrained growth and I would consider much less likely to survive long term. But it is also interesting because the person who started it is trying a participatory democracy style of running the site, which could either end up in disaster or working really well with a group of people who take ownership of what they are creating together. I predict the former but hope for the latter!
Edit: I think you only posted once, but the same thing happened to me - I thought I typed out a long post and that it had disapeared.
I think social media has been on a gradual decline for a while tbh. Various platforms have done some awful things like algorithms, advertising bombardment, inciting hatred and violence, political interference, security concerns, child safety, stupid decisions from the powers that be, etc, and have ruined the experiences for users. People are right to question "the system" as it stands.
Without a serious rethink of what social media needs to be and how it can best integrate into people's lives (unlike the constant brain-fart ideas that have morphed it into what we see today), the decline into irrelevance will only accelerate.
Raven pretty much summed it up I reckon but to add a note for a possible future here: as the fediverse grows with more trolls, bots and capitalist interests it will turn into feuds and flame wars and brigading between instances and the admins will be pulling hair trying to figure out who to stay federated with. ??
It will definitely be interesting to see what happens. I think it will be an evolutionary process - lots of different things will be tried, and only some will be successful enough to last. Aussie.zone has an advantage because not having open ability to create communities stops it growing too quickly, and the focus on Australia also makes it easier to continue as a separate group if federation turns out to be a problem.
I work a lot in and on social media (unfortunately lol) so Iโve been watching the trajectory with interest. One thing I have absolutely noticed is more niche, focused spaces growing for creators. Substack for writers, for example.
I do think fb, Instagram, Twitter etc will always hang around. Like roaches in an apocalypse. They are designed to be intentionally addictive after all. But they will lose a lot of power and wonโt be what they once were.
I use social media for my (unpaid) work (it's all volunteer stuff!) So I post our articles to Twitter. But it's been interesting. I wonder if we'll ever move to Mastodon. Might have to ask.
It's been interesting seeing the recent stuff that's happened. Like there's Mastodon as a Twitter replicate, Lemmy for Reddit, Tumblr is still Tumblr (a lot of Twitter and Reddit users migrated to Tumblr recently, it's a lot of fun over there. We still don't allow porn, but if it's artistic like a photograph or in a movie it's allowed but there are mature filters for like nusity, gore, etc).
There's a MySpace replicate called HeySpace. It's actually pretty cool, as someone who was on MySpace as a scene/emo kid.
But yeah it seems social media is imploding. I'm curious what the future of the Internet will be.
Today has been a great day! Got 3 sign ups at work, and the last Mass Effect book I needed came in (a week and a half since my birthday, but that's fine), and I'm getting a bonus of $33 from Centrelink tomorrow. Gotta wait almost a week to get paid from work, but that'll be nice. Tomorrow I need to buy comics (I also need to pay for 2 comics I picked up two weeks ago because I forgot to tell mum they need to be paid for) and also some more yarn for my knitting project.
Talking of tacos, there's a new Mexican joint in Mordialloc and the food is really good, although the sides (rice, beans) could be served a bit warmer. That's three places here now that does Tex-Mex, and another one about to start construction.
I went to Village Cantina in Werribee and I don't know if it's authentic but I really really loved it. Also that's where I fell in love with the mango margaritas.
In other more positive news, I have my initial ADHD assessment via Telehealth on the 15th! This place is much cheaper, the only drawback, though bearable is that I have to wait until November for my official diagnosis. So please manifest are sooner cancellation for me.
My reference is being a slow piece of poop, so I sent them a nice text about how nice it would be if they could check their frick-fracking email because I need money ffs
arghhhhhhhhhhh
ID: A close up of Homer Simpson screaming; indicative of how I feel within.
Itโs both! Plus if you make lots of the meat part and pre chop the stuffing and freeze it. You can have tacos again in the future which in turns helps you save (the tight arse part ๐)
That is great idea and if you don't label the meat and it sits in your freezer for awhile you'll eventually pull it out asking yourself "What the fuck is that?".
it's** really really important you rest and let the bones heal**
you do not want to make this worse
my husband totally shattered a vertebrate in a fall, as in it was powdered, after surgery his vertebrate is now made of superglue and bone dust
the surgeons say he must have already had a hairline fracture in a previous accident a few weeks before that weakened him , a hairline he didn't know he had
chilli cheese bread is being made, sewing kit set up to sew badges on my fluffy jacket ( I have a Ukraine Che Burashka badge, buying things from Ukraine is one way to support them ๐ป๐ซ ) , calligraphy set to do one page of practice in purple ink , tv on but I'm not really paying attention, fighting russian trolls on the newspaper in progress, tab open for doing some reading
oh god every time I vacuum now I get the Cars "You might think" stuck in my head
(the way the Dyson cycles up and down reminds me of that riff from Depeche Mode's shake the disease and part of that then seagues in my head into the do-do-do-do-do from you might think. Send help. The earworms are rube goldberging)
The last few days have been really low
My applications are progressing slow
Like glaciers taking a thousand years
To slide down into an ocean of fears
Heart sinking down down down
Mind thinking round round round
Blood rushing without a sound
Threads unravelled, coils unwound
Melancholic sheets between fields of pillows
Speckled with heavy sighs hanging like willows
Their leaves are tears feeding the streams
Of fears that this is all that it seems
Expecting some kind of fight over the leave I've requested. It's during a projected busy period, but it's not my fault they have a resource issue and will be overstretched if they do what they (management) are wanting to do.
This is a great way of looking at it. I mean... if it comes to it I'll speak with HR to find out what my rights are. Because I wonder what happens if it comes down to it and I just don't turn up for three weeks. I've been here for over five years, so I don't think they can just outright fire me. And it's not like I'm sitting here waiting for a promotion, so it's not like I'm trying to be the good egg.
I hate this delicate dance employees still have to do when supposedly the jobs market is wide open. We should be fighting for (and winning) a lot of rights that have been stripped back over the years. I guess that's what happens when the unions have been all but dissolved.
God at my last job they marked certain periods as busy periods and it meant we weren't allowed to request time off or drop/swap any shifts we were scheduled for. Thankfully I never had any issues with it because the manager's mentality was essentially 'do whatever you want, as long as you can find cover' but I was just like that's a bit rude, how are you going to tell me what days I'm available to work ๐
Yeah, I worked at a job where certain areas had a black-out period and told myself never again - it's so fucking limiting. Especially for something that workers are entitled to. I hate how much we have to give up just to earn a wage. The role I'm in now has it's busy periods and it has its down periods, it really does depend on external factors which govern strategic decisions with project pipeline. I still maintain that if they can't cover one person's role for three weeks then how it that my problem? That's why managers get paid a higher wage, right? To manage?
Little Man has absolutely kicked my ass all day. My partner was sick, so I gave up trying to get work done, and essentially followed a mini tornado around the house while doing chores...I have a splitting headache, tired and starving. Once we've gotten around to dinner, I've got soooooo much work catch up on. sigh
I'm missing my old CD player,
It had a tape deck too.
Where it came from I don't remember,
But it was grey and transparent blue.
Recorded hits off the built-in radio,
Replayed until the tape wore thin.
I guess I sailed some shallow seas,
Before I knew what it was to swim.
If only my PC had a CD player,
I'd burn them all into ones and zeros;
My collection inscribed to the aether.
A future-task for a flush Stud-Hero.
Does anyone know/remember this CD? My Dad had a copy when I was a kid (90s/2000s) and I was able to buy this from the VicPol Blue Ribbon website (which I was stoked about). Anyway, if you're able to get a copy, it has some of the best covers :)
Outlander be like, beautiful Scottish scenery and costumes, but first softcore porn with a side of sexual assault. I won't lie, I don't mind the show (well the first couple of seasons), but I feel like it really could've done well if it had dropped certain things and picked up on others.
Inspection is done. Now I won't have to see her for another six months. But last night we found a crack in the ceiling in the bathroom and you can see the stud pressed against the ceiling. Possibly happened during an Earthquake.
Sounds like me 2 days ago. Climbed into bed, yawning my head off, tired as all get out but couldnโt settle to sleep. After 2 hours I gave up. Stayed up and fell asleep at 8am and then only managed 4 hours sleep total. Just an off time for me. Happens once in a blue moon, but itโs because Iโm stressed over something. Had no issues the next night though ๐
I love the soft ones so much, but I don't really like them as a taco. Tbh I'm bad with it, and just eat the soft ones with nothing on them. I prefer hard tacos though
Lazy kinda day, lots of cat playtyime, aa stuff and a dentist visit. I've got some work needs doing and I'll be down a grand but I haven't been since 2019 so it serves right. Still come out about even but I really need to start being a lot more serious about flossing. Favourite comment today, "oh girl, you're such a lesbian", from my bestie. She's phenomenal. I'm so blessed she popped up out of nowhere this year after ten years of the odd catch up every year or two. Got an unexpected last week long service leave week's pay also which instantly gets eaten by the dentist but I'm still pretty happy overall I didn't need fillings or extractions and the money is there to pay the bill. I also saved myself from needing dentures, another year and I'd have been fucked.
People probably think I'm weird for saying aa has changed my whole perspective on spirituality and my future, but I love the fellowship. Talk about reliable, caring, loving and sober people. Having shared lived experience is where I'm at with my new peers, both trans and alcoholic. I needed wholesome people in my life and I'm starting to build a whole new circle of much better friends.
Between that and the comaraderie here in the aussie zone, I'm feeling a really authentic sense of connection. My feelings of loneliness and isolation are basically gone. Everything's coming up hones.
Dinner will be the two $1.20 salads I bought from woolies discount bin with some mayo ketchup.
Saw the new spiderverse Spiderman. Was fun but I think the first one had better story. However animation was excellent all the way through, loved all the different styles, which I think is the point of it more than the story.
I went to buy my frozen cheesecake ( thanks @[email protected] ) and I headed for Sara Lee, spotted a Coles lemon curd one and my fingers hungrily grabbed that one.
Before anyone says they're really easy to make I know I know I know. I have made them before.
It's still squarely mid-Monday over here in the States but I am in fact having tacos for lunch today. Today is a good day. Crack a Foster's for your boy and I'll join y'all in Tuesday soon enough. ๐ค
Tacos are getting pricey around Melbourne. I used to occasionally get tacos at Pacoโs Tacos in the city (500 Bourke St), but thatโs closed. La Tortilleria (Kensington) is one of the more authentic Mexican restaurants in Melbourne, so maybe give that a try. Or just make them at home โ then you can adjust them for your personal tastes, and the kids have fun filling their own tacos.
Last time I tried to get tacos home delivered it was 15 dollars for three! Just three tacos, no sides or drink or anything, then the delivery fee on top.
When I have many-money I like to go to Los Amantes in Brunswick. Best dine-out tacos and quesadillas.
It's Los Hermanos (the brothers) on Google, but the business name is Los Amantes del Agave, 'agave lovers'.
Otherwise, yeah, Sun Goddess Amaterasu is correct, make them at home hehe.
Has anyone organised a utilities account transfer for a deceased estate?
Short story is I'm handling it for my grandparents, both live in the same house but one passed. The one that passed is the only name on the account.
I'm going to be switching providers anyway to the other g-parent, would it just be easier to let the new company handle the transfer instead of having to close the existing account? Also the current company never set up a concession for the eligible deceased owner, any ideas whether they'd be able to retroactively apply it now to ease the financial burden?
I'm not sure how this would work for water, but I used to work for like, 3 different elec/gas companies across Vic, NSW, SA, and WA.
Generally, you would need to provide a death certificate, and POA (power of attorney) or executor of the estate docs. Instead of doing all of that, you can contact a different company/provider, set up an account with them for g-parent and have someone/yourself as authorised (in case you need to help g-parent later on) - that will initiate a back-end request from preferred-company to old-company to request power xfer (how it used to work iirc may have changed) - anyway, after the cooling-off period, generally 10 business days, the xfer should be completed. You will receive a final invoice from old-company up to the date of xfer, this will need to be paid to old-company.
Regarding concession for account for deceased g-parent; if there are notes on their utility account (call notes the customer reps. can see on their end) where g-parent called and applied concession, and it wasn't applied/applied incorrect by old-company, then you can escalate and have someone backdate the concession (generally, however this is up to each company what their policies are). If g-parent didn't call to advise old-company they have a concession, then no, they will not backdate. Generally power companies have a policy that it is up to the concession holder to advise them of any changes, including calling to update the expiry of the concession. Even if it's a seniors card. But it is worth asking about.
Be polite, and the reps will generally go the extra mile for you. Ask for an escalation if the rep doesn't understand the request, and that will generally prompt them to ask for clarification from their senior/TL.
Hey thank you so much for your help and personal experience
First point (transferring) - this confirms my expectations and my experience with requesting a transfer. This sounds like the easiest way. I would expect to have to go the initial route if the current g-parent didn't live here which luckily they do
Second point (concession) - Thanks for this, I've had one company backdate it by a year before, I see what this one says. According to the DFFH, concessions can be backdated for 12 months or the concession start date - whichever is more recent. I'll give this a go before transferring retailers
