Peter Navarro is pushing negotiators to discuss reworking country’s boundaries, The Telegraph can reveal
A top White House official has threatened to redraw the Canadian border amid Donald Trump’s ambition to turn the country in America’s “51st state”.
Peter Navarro, one of Donald Trump’s closest advisers, is pushing US negotiators to discuss reworking the border with their Canadian counterparts, The Telegraph can reveal.
“Navarro recommended revising the Canada-US border, which is just crazy and dangerous,” a source close to negotiations told The Telegraph.
which had been paused for 30 days after Mr Trudeau agreed to take action against illegal migration and drug trafficking into the US.
Putting a bit of spin on it. Their plans were already in place before Trump came into office. This makes it seem like the US actually got a concession.
US Miliary personnel have worked hand in hand with the Canadians half a century doing everything from joint ops to sharing bases. I think a lot of them would simply refuse to invade Canada without congress first declaring an official war, and congress wouldn't do that because it would be horrifically unpopular with the US populace.
Canada got serious about pursuing the money behind the freedom convoy and designated a bunch of those groups as domestic terrorists. By law Canada can go after everyone who funded them which, unsurprisingly, is largely Russia via right wing organizations in the US.
"ridiculous" is a rather generous way to express the absolute lunatic raving idiocy involved in even considering consolidating a sovereign nation (Canada, FFS??) into the fantastical ravings of a Napoleonic miserable little toddler's colonialist dreams in search of some lasting legacy other than first felonious criminal that made it to occupant of the oval office.
Well, maybe America was always the bad guy, but had (mostly) good people in control of checks and balances. Like, it was always Anakin, but had Obiwan keeping on eye on things.
But now Obiwan is dead and America is in the tower chopping up kids.
“We protect Canada, but it’s not fair. It’s not fair that they’re not paying their way, and if they had to pay their way they couldn’t exist,” he told reporters.
My guess is that Medicaid cuts are the big one. Cutting Medicaid ain't popular. It would probably be very much undesirable for Trump and more-generally the GOP if that were the major topic of discussion on social media.
Canada is running down the funding sources behind the freedom convoy. A bunch of involved domestic groups have been officially labelled domestic terrorists meaning everyone involved in funding them is on the hook. A whole bunch of that money was laundered through far right wing supporters in the US.
Can't arbitrarily redraw an international border without negotiation
The United Nations Charter prohibits the annexation of a state's territory by another state through the use of force. Annexation is considered an act of aggression and a violation of international law
According to Mr Navarro's 2001 book, If It's Raining in Brazil, Buy Starbucks, Vara was a captain in a reserve unit during the Gulf War as well as a doctoral student in economics at Harvard University in the US.
Maybe Canadians don’t want to be American? Maybe we’d prefer to stay a sovereign nation instead of joining the dumpster fire of a country to our south?
The big deal is the US increasingly setting the scene for open war, which would be a Bad Thing™️. Whether or not you believe in borders the people with tanks and nukes sure do
