Infrastructure nerd, gamer, and Lemmy.ca maintainer
Can someone break this down for the non-british? Is this a good thing?
Lemmy.ca scheduled maintenance Saturday July 6th
Hi everyone,
We'll be undergoing maintenance on Saturday morning from about 11am - noon PST.
We've been having some stability issues over the past few days that I've tracked down to database performance, so I'll be doing some tuning and also applying all our needed system updates at the same time.
Cheers!
Ladybird is a fork of the serenity browser, no?
Does this 3 year old pr involve anyone from the ladybird project?
This is lemmy, not your client. Personal posts and comments get auto up voted
I don't know this tool, but it's probably using hard links on the filesystem. Deleting any individual instance of the file won't delete it until they are all deleted
Something got into a weird state and restarting either the backend or frontend didn't help. Taking the entire stack down and then bringing it back up, resolved it.
It's weird since it crashed at 1am and at 3am we gradually restart all backend and frontends, so that automatic restart should have fixed it too. All the containers reported healthy, but nginx wasn't reporting any available frontends.
I suspect some sort of weird lemmy bug, but we'll just have to improve monitoring for now and try to debug this more if it happens again.
Check out things like "Protectli Vault" and just put pfsense/opnsense on it
Sorry about the downtime everyone! Stlil digging into the root cause, this is an odd one since all individual services were reporting themselves as healthy.
Today is a great day for Canada, and therefore the world

Keep the work light cool white, but use warm white lights to accentuate.

I'd recommend avoiding spinning disks and going all ssd if possible.
You can get 12v in atx power supplies.
You may want to consider something like a Lenovo tiny with a few large ssds.
That doesn't mean Nintendo is going to go grant a license to a game where you can enslave and kill animals.
The flight was carrying 125 passengers, and the sudden change in cabin pressure caused health problems that needed treatment when the aircraft returned to Seoul. According to a report from South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, at least two passengers suffered nosebleeds, and 15 reported ear pain and hyperventilation.
Jesus that sounds terrifying. Flying along at meal time, the masks drop, then the pilots have to nose dive the plane to a safe altitude.
Would Nintendo even allow it?
Does not require a battery, just requires a hydrogen tank and generator. 🙄
Insurance isn't really worth it in my experience, you're better off putting the premium into a savings account. Between the limits on insurance redemption and the deductable, it's not cost effective vs just saving the money.
(this was for me in Canada, maybe the US has better but seems unlikely)
We're now upgraded to 0.19.4
Sorry for the brief bits of downtime here and there, I snuck in a quick upgrade of us to the latest lemmy 0.19.4 now that a few bugs have been patched out.
More details here! https://join-lemmy.org/news/2024-06-07_-Lemmy_Release_v0.19.4-_Image_Proxying_and_Federation_improvements

You might see some brief downtime during the next hour or so, pictrs is currently upgrading its database.
Edit: Holding off on lemmy as Blaze was nice enough to flag some new bugs - https://lemmy.ca/comment/9660430
Edit: Pictrs upgrading taking longer than expected after the migration crashed, hopefully wrapped up soon!
Finally Done! We're all ready for the new lemmy version now, maybe once a patch release comes out.

Would you recommend a bread maker?
Y'all have been tempting me with your declious looking bread. I realize a bread machine is going to make simple loafs and not the stuff that's usually posted here, but curious on thoughts if they're worth it?
I'm low on time and lazy. I won't make bread if I have to whip out my KitchenAid and dough hook. Tossing some ingredients in a machine I can do though, plus it could make the dough for more complex things too if I do occasionally have the energy.
Should I do it?
Scheduled maintenance on Sunday Feb 18th at 11am PST - Now complete
Hello everyone!
I'm going to be taking the server down on Sunday to apply system updates, as well as migrate us to running across multiple lemmy containers.
Currently we do a nightly restart of lemmy / lemmy-ui at 2am resulting in a 2-3 minute outage (visible on our status page). This change will make those restarts transparent so I stop getting alerts on my phone.
I'm current planning on starting this at 11am PST on Sunday Feb 18th and will probably take about 30 mins.
Edit: All done! We've upgraded to postgres 16 as well.
Need someone to remove me as a mod
For some reason I've been added as a mod of [email protected], which I actually blocked a while ago. I can't seem to self remove myself, maybe a lemmy bug from me being on a different instance.
Can a LW admin please remove me from that community?
Lemmy.ca upgraded to 0.19.3
Enjoy!
