I'm up to 92 so far. A mix of non English, furry and hentai porn, and a few I just don't see the point of. I've got 6 or 7 users to, mostly bots that repost reddit content, and the piped link bot.
79 so far. If we could just block instances it would be so much better. OR if we had a distinction between NSFW porn and NSFW non porn. I just don't want porn in all, but I want to be able to discover new communities. And I don't want to block all NSFW because I enjoy some content that is marked as NSFW...I just don't want porn.
Yep, I got the same issue with blocking communities. It would be so much simpler to simply block pornlemmy and lemmynsfw than to block the myriad of communities that pop up
I want some stuff from lemmynsfw, just not furry or hentai. There is a yiff instance I wouldn't mind blocking, but Liftoff doesn't have instance blocking yet and that's the app I prefer.
I'm not morally opposed to porn--but like 99.9% is aimed at straight men, or is the Disney-style furry art, and it does NOTHING for me. It's like being drowned in, I dunno...football communities. It's boring as shit and I Just. Don't. Care.
I haven't blocked anything yet. I just signed up and I'm having trouble finding anything. My timeline is just the same few things repeating. How are you all seeing stuff you haven't subbed to?
You can use the "All" section of the instance you are using. You can also search for more communities from other instances using the Lemmy Community Browser.
Dude I agree so much. Because I've fallen for the trap of thinking "oh yeah, I support being against that too, fuck it!"
But then slowly realize that even if I support being anti whatever, the community itself is just filled with negativity and hate. Justifiable or not, it's always an emotional drag, so yeah, best to just cut it out of my life, I don't need it.
i've been here for 15 minutes as a refugee from reddit. i immedialtely got the "fuck cars" (community?) in my feed. i did not like their dislike of cars.
102 so far. It's mostly porn and the creepy hentai and furry stuff, some of the foreign language communities that get through the filters, and things like different sports, that I'm never going to be interested in.
As other people have said, I want to be able to browse through All to discover new content, but there's no point in seeing things that I'm never going to like.
I hope to get to that point soonish, but without a starting set of mostly interesting and inoffensive subs, building a collection of subscribed thingies is slow going. In the meantime, I'm scrolling all and blocking all the communities that seem mostly like a place to be angry.
What? Why are you blocking communities so much? Just go through the list of communities and subscribe to what appeals you you then just browse subscriptions.
Not speaking for OP, but I do it because if you block communities they don't show up when you browse by "all". That's my preferred way to find new stuff (even if it's meme heavy). I like that it's as easy to hide communities I'm not interested in as it is to subscribe to new communities. It's a great feature.
I'm not sure how to see, but I've blocked every non-english, sports, and state/town/city community that I've come across. I kinda wishcommunities had tags for stuff like that, cause theres a lot of languages, sports, and places to block out there
You can choose to filter by language in the Lemmy ui directly. I selected English and Unspecified and it eliminated all the German, dutch and Philippine subs.
Because if you don't select which language you're posting in, it gets posted as undefined. That's why in the settings it warns you not to unselect undefined, or you'll get almost no content.
A lot. The way I curate my feed is I subscribe to communities that I'm actively and significantly interested in and block all of them that I don't see myself ever wanting to check out. The rest are places that I might want to see, but maybe not all the time. This way I can filter by Subscribed to see a very focused feed and by All if I want some more randomness, but still without topics I'm really disinterested in.
I felt that politics posts and discussions on reddit led to a separation of communities and echo chamber when platforms like that an Lemmy would ideally, be politics free.
It leads to a more friendly positive and inclusive place to be.
I think it would be impossible to keep politics off Lemmy so best I can do for now is filter it out.
I don't understand why you need to block anyone? I subscribed to what I like and that's all I have in my feed how are you getting these other communities?
I browse the local and all feeds to find new stuff. Local shows everything on the instance I am in, and All shows the local feed, plus communities on other instances that other people on Lemmy.World follow.
I do this but I block stuff I won’t have any interest in ever like programmer humor, furry this and that, weird porn. I know I won’t ever subscribe or find anything I want to see in some communities
Lemmy.world blocked exploding heads at the instance level, so I don't need to worry about them thankfully. Before they were blocked by our admin I had pretty much every community of theirs I saw blocked.
I use libretube on my phone, which uses piped for videos. Most of the time it works pretty well, sometimes it doesn't work as well so I switch over to newpipe x sponsorblock
I like to browse the All feed to see new stuff, but there are things I know I'm never going to want to see, so it's nice to have all of that not even show up rather than wade through it to see other stuff.
One instance, one magazine (which was later deleted) and 17 users. I block bigots, people posting explicit things without tags, hostile people, and folk with genitals as their profile pic... mostly.
200+ and growing 10 each day. I had few thousands on reddit.
sports, non-English, anime, memes, bikini bottom bullshit, mindly circle jerk infuriating balooney.
and I got nsfw off. if I turn it on, I just won't be able to calmly read the interesting stuff, I will be forces to tap the bans all day.
please stop moving reddit here. kthnx.
