With a lot of talk around new apps in development & coming on stream, something I've been happy to see, & commented on, as choice is always a good thing...
I thought I'd just voice my appreciation for the Jerboa team, love this App, such nice Ui & UX, I find it very easy to use, all the view options, post layouts, especially the compact view are really easy on the eyes, & great to scroll through quickly. I know there are some errors from time to time, & the odd glitch here & there, but thats something to be expected, given that Jerboa is still in its Alpha form..
Thanks for all you do, each iteration makes the experience, better & better..ππΌ
Thank you! I do have to remind people that jerboa is still very much alpha-level software... something I worked on in my off-time when not working on lemmy.
I'm super excited tho for it now, because it has a lot more skilled contributors, who actually know how to do android development.
Appreciate the work on the app so far, was great to have an open source app and one on F-Droid to replace infinity. Looking forward to seeing it's continued development.
Hear hear! The Jerboa app has been great, and @[email protected] (hope I did that right) has worked hard on it for sure! Some of the posts about bugs and/or feature suggestions have been downright rude imho, so it's nice see them get their flowers, they deserve it! It's nice to see so many new app projects popping up too of course, but so far Jerboa has done great by me, and like others have mentioned, has really eased my transition from RIF. My thumb already instinctively taps on Jerboa now instead of RIF, LOL.
Hahah, I put Jerboa right where rif used to be, so now I end up here instinctually plenty of times a day. No complaints on my end, the apps doing everything I need so far!
It can be very grating when people demand that you do free labor for them, while refusing to do it themselves. Open source can feel like a group project, where one person just makes demands on everyone else without helping out.
I am very appreciative of Jerboa and dessalines, but boy, am I looking forward to those links (and !community@instance links) getting rendered correctly instead of as email addresses.
There's got to be thousands of peopel that are using this platform because of Jeroba. I know I probably wouldn't be here and commenting without that app.
Thanks for all the hard work!
I wouldn't be using Lemmy/the Fediverse if it weren't for the devs of this app. I hope we can keep it alive as long as possible, like the fediverse itself. Decentralization is why the internet has prospered this far. It would make sense to have a social internet that's decentralized too
It took me way too long to figure out what the + numbers meant, but yes super slick and love the color difference in comments. Easier for me to follow and see where I'm at.
Jerboa's been great for me. Sure it's kinda glitchy, but they've already made huge improvements in just a couple weeks. Awesome work devs, now... get back to it! π
Yup, Jerboa has been great for using Lemmy on mobile. There are some features I miss coming from Relay, but it's all minor things that don't really impact the overall useability.
I straight up would not be on Lemmy today if not for the jerboa app. literally my only gripe with it is I think the icon for it is ugly af, but that's just opinion and everything else about the app is great!
What's even better is that the pace of development on Jerboa is extremely high at the moment, there are a lot of features and fixes that are ready to go but have to wait for the next release of the Lemmy server software.
Jerboas a solid app! Coming from RIF, it's offered a pretty familiar experience. Considering this app is pretty early in its development I'm excited to see what they do with it
Which instances are these? After I took the update, I got a message that I need to notify my administrators and logout. But I clicked off of it and everything still works. I am in lemmy.world instance.
I had that, but it crashed a lot. Logged out, and wasn't able to log back in because of the version message. Downgrading didn't work either. It would login and crash. Using the web interface until the server updates.
Not good timing on the release of Jerboa and server version. Not doing version 0.18 released yet.
Edit: The Admin God upgraded the server and 0.35 works sweet now!
Yeah, it's lame, but it's also work to maintain compatibility between major versions. Once Jerboa dev slows, perhaps it'll be easier to make that better. For now, it's gonna suck a bit until instances upgrade.
Why is that update to 0.0.35 (from my locally installed 0.0.34) not shown to me in Droid-ify? When I click on Jerboa in the installed list, it shows up in the list of versions at the bottom.
The global list of Updates in Droid-ify is empty, however. Clicking/Spamming the "sync" button there does not help.
The latest version on the playstore is 0.0.35.
I was able to download the previous version 0.0.34 from github which doesn't have the v 0.18 issue.
As soon as your lemmy instance updates to 0.18 you should be able to update the jerboa app without any issue.
Either wait for the server upgrade on your instance, or downgrade Jerboa, as the latest update added a breaking chance for compatibility with the latest Lemmy update.
Was my first choice, but the app would not stay open. Installed fresh on Note 10+ and it would not actually start open long enough to acknowledge the first screen of notes before crashing.
Did you open an issue on github ? If not please do with all of the details of your device such as make and model, android version , version of the app and steps to reproduce and logs if you have them.
There are most likely others who have the same issue so the sooner its reported the sooner it can be fixed. It might be a while bit at least there is a place to start with steps to reproduce the issue.
As a non kbiner I notice it and Lemmy get coupled together a lot in discussions about the fediverse applications. What is the overlap there ? And what are the differences between the two platforms?
Most reddit alternatives are silos, but since Lemmy and kbin are part of the reddit-like fediverse, all their servers are capable of sharing the same content unless explicitly defederated
I was using the website on mobile for a while. The problem I had was when I sorted by All -> Hot I kept seeing new posts appear so it was hard to use. It was scrolling basically. Jerboa doesn't do that and I'm enjoying lemmy a lot more now
So I'm posting here from a browser. I want to use jerboa but I can't get it to do much of anything. It asks me to log in but gives me no option to do so. I can't find a manual for it or any help. I'm pretty sure I just don't know how to use the thing, but I know I'm not alone
In the hamburger menu on the left you should find an "Add account" button. IIRC it says the word "Anonymous" and you have to tap it to show the add account button.
Some things in Jerboa are a bit confusing for now. Once you get to know where things are it's pretty good though.
In the top left there is a button to open a sliding menu which comes from the left of the screen. The first entry in this menu will say "Anonymous". Click it. Now you can log in to a server of your choosing.
Currently you will need to create an account on some instance beforehand. You cannot register from the app. You can only log in.
I tried to use but when I went to login I got an error that says the server version (0.17.4) is too low. but when I check all the popular instances they are all on the same version. so how is it working for other instances?
My understanding is Jerboa 0.35 requires server version 0.18, which isn't widely adopted yet. I'm using 0.34 from F-Droid and I've been having no issues.
Always be wary of downloading random people's files, but you can try my fork which implements some of the 0.35 features (until June 15) but is before the v18 update:
