  • For context this is the full quote, where MLK Jr. condemns riots but also equally condemns the conditions that cause people to riot: inequality, injustice, lack of humanity, lack of progress.

Let me say, as I’ve always said, and I will always continue to say, that riots are socially destructive and self-defeating. I’m still convinced that nonviolence is the most potent weapons available to oppress[ed] people in their struggle for freedom and justice. I feel that violence will only create more social problems than they will solve, that in a real sense, it is impractical for the Negro to even think of mounting a violent revolution in the United States. So I will continue to condemn riots and continue to say to my brothers and sisters that this is not the way. Continue to affirm that there is another way.

But at the same time, it is as necessary for me to be as vigorous in condemning the conditions which cause persons to feel that they must engage in riotous activities, as it is for me to condemn riots. I think America must see that riots do not develop out of thin air. Certain conditions continue to exist in our society, which must be condemned as vigorously as we condemn riots. And in the final analysis, a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it that America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the plight of the Negro poor has worsened over the last few years. It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice, equality, and humanity. So in a real sense, our nation’s summer’s riots are caused by our nation’s winters of delay. And as long as America postpones justice, we stand in the position of having these recurrences of violence and riots over and over again. Social justice and progress are the absolute guarantors of riot prevention.

  • Confusing...
  • Since the correct mathematical answer isn't one of the options, the people picking the other options are representing a real resistance to the order of mathematical logic that binds us.

The real answer is 14 because I'm 14 and this is deep.

  • Yep I get "Choose how to open link", select RedReader, and boom I'm exactly where I need to be. Works from Firefox Mobile's Open In App functions as well.

It's been 6 fuckin years Reddit. Why still have these unnecessary hurdles, and why force people onto a comparitively much worse experience?

  • Jerboa crashes on launch
  • There's a Room Database version issue going from version 34 to 33. To downgrade you have to fully uninstall the app then install it, installing over the existing will cause the app to crash immediately on startup.

There is also version 35 out now.

  • Lemmy just passed 1 million users!
  • I was trying to figure out how you got those numbers, then I went to https://the-federation.info/platform/73, sorting by number of accounts vs. active accounts. I was astonished how some sites had 30k accounts and 3 active users. Kind of sad seeing the active user ratio going from over 1 in 6 (very active) to 1 in 30 (around where it was before) in the span of 5 days.

  • What is your least favorite PC game in your favorite franchise?
  • Yeah that was very upsetting. I'm not a hardcore Halo fan but Infinite was a game I wanted to like, during that first holiday period I convinced nearly a dozen people to play with me...

The game was so crashy, parties didn't work half the time, the store and battle pass thing was disgusting (they were planning to make it even more money-grubbing) and I barely got to the first BP level after several days. I had some fun during those times but after a few months I stopped holding out hope and lost interest. Forge came a year too late... I don't even feel like going back to it anymore.

  • One Day More to Reddit Blackout

A silly meme I made about Reddit's impeding co-ordinated blackout happening tomorrow.

RedReader received an exception to being charged for the API, i.reddit.com or mobile compact mode vanished without many noticing, finally users will likely flock to one of many of Lemmy's communities while a good portion of Reddit goes dark.

Posted on Reddit for visibility there and because direct video hosting doesn't appear to be available (probably for the server operators' sake).

    Hey everyone,

I just want to present my fork of the Jerboa app, to backport it for Android 5.0 through 7.x, for anyone that still has older (but not too old) phones. Codenames Lollipop, Marshmellow and Nougat supported.

Let me know if this is helpful for you, or if there are any major crashes/strange bugs that aren't present on newer devices.

No guarantees that I will update it but we will see. Thanks, Rentlar
