You're not thinking about tariffs correctly. Unless Canada puts a tariff on and export, which is unlikely. But, that being said, Trump's tariffs do include potash, which goes to your point. What I find interesting about all these articles, is that they never seem to be able to focus their anger at the man doing this, or the administration causing them the pain and anxiety. They're all wearing blinders.
Yes. You’re right. I have it backwards. Sorry. Let’s stop the sale of Potash instead since it can be used to make explosives and the U.S. is an untrustworthy ally at this point.
I see”conservation”, clearly it’s one of those fake environmental things: dirt doesn’t need to be saved. It’s all that woke DEI nonsense getting in the way of true Americans
—- the thing is we can make up shit like this, but it really seems like some would actually follow logic like this. How did my respect for my fellow man get so low?
Those red run welfare farmers still have their cheap illegal labor. If they file for bankruptcy, the big corporate farms will buy them up. FAFO stupid red losers!
Again, this is by design. They WANT farmers to fail so they can buy the farmland for pennies on the dollar.
This is part of their plan! It is a cheap way to buy lots of property for cheap and gain further control of the food industry.
Go look at what’s been happening after the crash of 2008. Wall St. investment firms started buying foreclosured properties en mass and now owns at least 20% of low income housing. Same thing will happen here.
Privatizing farmland and driving out the private farms that can’t survive without government subsidies. All in the guise of privatization and capitalism.
If you look at the trans healthcare ban, for an example of how long lawsuits take. The executive order was signed on January 28th. 4 days after the executive order, Pflag's lawsuit filed their lawsuit in federal court. 5 days after the EO, they submitted the motion for a temporary restraining order. It wasn't until February 13th, a full 15 days since the filing of the EO that the judge ruled on the temporary restraining order blocking the EO from being in effect. There were a total of 15 days when that illegal order was enforceable before the courts went through the process of providing the quickest possible emergency remedy.
Even when going as fast as possible, and granting emergency relief, courts take long enough to cause real damage. 15 days to cause farmers these problems even if the spending freeze does eventually get blocked.
He fucked them the first time he was President. He's fucking them again now. They didn't learn a goddamn thing. They made their bed and now they can lie in it. Stupid fucks.
I will never understand how an Iowa farmer could have been okay with him. They literally depend on (usually illegal) migrant work. They can't afford to pay minimum wage, but here they are, once again.
I don't live in Iowa but have a small farm and live surrounded by farmers and ranchers. You have to understand that these people have the tiniest of perspective to the world. They spend almost their entire lives on one property, rarely go anywhere due to the nature of farming, and constantly have right-wing radio on in the truck and the barn and fox news on at home. You combine that with limited education across multiple generations and you have a group of people perfectly suited to consistently buy into propaganda and almost never able to identify things that will eat their face in the end.
I’m less sure about the migrant worker in Iowa’s case. I think Iowa is mostly corn and soy, which have been machine-picked-and-processed for close to 100 years now. I’m sure that some migrant labor is being used, but one automated combine can pick
A LOT of corn in a day.
They'll probably toss them a bone at some point to shut them up, like they did with farmers in his first term after his previous tariffs fucked them over.
