Ugh, I try not to be this guy but 7/10 of those movies are remakes/sequels and of the remaining 3 one is the 14th iteration of a character, one is a video game adaptation, and the other is a superhero movie (I assume it ties into the MCU but I can't be fucked to care). I understand you typically get hyped for things you can expect but this list sucks
Let's be honest, this is a "most anticipated" list. It's expected that people will be anticipating continuations/alterations of stories they know and love.
It's very hard to anticipate a Keanu Reeves movie about a drunk painter with an underground director.
The top ten box office movies for 2024 had 8 sequels, a live action Disney remake, and the first part of an adaptation of a Broadway musical based on a book which was a prequel to another remade movie based on a book.
I reckon the 2025 list reflects the state of the industry quite well.
Yet another example for: popularity doesn't equal quality. I mean there will be more enough money in those movies for a high production value, but what an uninspiring bunch of crap!
28 Years Later is directed by Danny Boyle, the same director of the original. Alex Garland wrote the original. Garland and Boyle wrote 28 Years together.
Yeah, I wanna see Florence Pugh's sarcastic kickass character, though. I'd watch her and Deadpool be the most cynical trash-talking adversaries over like 7 seasons ... and somehow Phil Coulson is in it too with Fury pulling a Bosley.
Looking forward to 1, 2 and 6. The rest aren’t on my radar.
A lot of this stuff capitalizes on our desire for nostalgia. When shit is going bad, you reach for something you know and remember fondly. Capitalism banks on that. That’s why we have so many reboots and sequels. It’s not a bad thing if they’re not obvious cash grabs and you just need a pickup, but it’s also very lazy. It’s another sign that a cultural plateau is where everything is at.
The reality is that the majority of movie viewers want more of what feels safe.
I’m looking forward to 6 because I like Anthony Mackie (Twisted Metal was awesome) and want to see how his story goes. The MCU has felt unmoored and that could be a good one in the mix.
