Kbin.social down again? Are people moving to mbin instances (kbin.run, fedia.io)?
  • mbin has had an accessible API for a few months now. You can use Interstellar with for example (not on iOS thuogh)

  • Ich finde es schön. Mangel an Beweise - "Den Medien sind 11,5 Millionen Dokumente zugespielt worden" 😂

  • When is a new update to ActivityPub coming?
  • I absolutely see the problem, but making users host their own server to host their actor profile and posts is just too complicated. I mean why not just host the whole AP server then... Additionally it reminded me a lot of Activity Pods

  • How does it work? I can't find any info about that in [email protected] at least not in the description or a pinned post

  • Blocking instances (a suggestion)
  • Think of it this way: there is currently no way to block an instance from a users perspective, there simple isn't (and yes we should add one). What blocking a domain is for: I hate everything the guardian posts, I don't want to see anything talking about that.

  • Kbin.social down again? Are people moving to mbin instances (kbin.run, fedia.io)?
  • well server uptime is usually, and in the case of fediverse observer, coupled to a successful response. If the server spits out a 500 internal server error, that does not count as being up

  • Blocking instances (a suggestion)
  • Thats why I meant threads linking to the url. It has nothing to do with a users home instance...

  • Blocking instances (a suggestion)
  • Do you mean blocking a domain? So navigating to /d/domain_to:block? If you do: that block all posts that have a url linking to kbin. Since comments do not link to anything they will not be blocked by this. If you want a feature like this, please consider making an issue over on github in the mbin repo

  • Kbin.social down again? Are people moving to mbin instances (kbin.run, fedia.io)?
  • Interstellar could support iOS, but the dev was actually the one that told me about the costs and that he just don't want to pay it. Maybe he could be convinced to support iOS if a developer or tester with an iPhone helped him and the community chipped in for the dev account. After all he does everything for free, like most of us do

  • Kbin.social down again? Are people moving to mbin instances (kbin.run, fedia.io)?
  • I think the instance is not showing because it is not online at the moment... here you can see the stats of kbin.social on fediverse observer https://kbin.fediverse.observer/kbin.social

    Regarding the amount of instances and the rather small users/server: a lot of the mbin instances used to be kbin ones (like you can tell by their name) including mine. So we did not start with one central instance that all the users went to, but with a lot that already had a small number of users. And the project itself is not that old, not even a year (we start in September or October 2023). I'd say we really only have one hyperfocused instance and that being rimworld.gallery

  • Did Fedora 40 break something for you?

    I am running Fedora 39 right now and the last time I did a distro upgrade my graphics drivers were a huge PITA. Did your upgrade to 40 went smooth?

    [Fixed] Mouse Cursor jumps around

    Hello everyone, I have a weird problem with my mouse: when I switch the window focus, e.g. by alt tabbing to another window, or by closing a window, and the newly focused window is on my other monitor my mouse will jump to that monitor without me doing anything. It is not a deal breaker or something, but it is very annoying...

    I am using Fedora 39 with Gnome 45 with xorg, nvidia 2070 super, running the nvidia drivers and a Ryzen 3600.

    I looked in my control center for mouse options, but they are very much limited

    I would be so happy if this feature makes it into Firefox this year

    Software vs Hardware RAID

    I am thinking of extending my storage and I don't know if I should buy a JBOD (my current solution) or a RAID capable enclosure.

    My "server" is just a small intel nuc with an 8th gen i3. I am happy with the performance, but that might be impacted by a bigger software RAID setup. My current storage setup is a 4-bay JBOD with 4TB drives in RAID 5. And I am thinking of going to 6 x 8TB drives with RAID 6 which will probably be more work for my little CPU

    Remmina not working with Windows 10 RDP anymore

    Hi guys, Remmina won't connect to a windows 10 PC via RDP anymore. It worked until I upgraded to Fedora 39 (I think, maybe its something different though). I cannot see anything in the logs indicating what the error might be. I tried messing with the settings, particularly the TLS and Gateway ransport type settings, but that didn't change anything. It is not timing out eigher, the disconnect is nearly instant.

    Cannot read files from SD card which works fine under windows

    I have a SanDisk 256GB extreme pro SD card for my camera. It works perfectly fine with the camera and with windows, but when I instert it into the card reader on linux (fedora 38) I can't copy any files from it:

    > > > cp: Fehler beim Lesen von '.../DCIM/112\_FUJI/DSCF2001.RAF': Eingabe-/Ausgabefehler > >

    Loosely translated:

    > > > cp: error while reading from '.../DCIM//112\_FUJI/DSCF2001.RAF': input/output error > >

    the card is automatically mounted and shows up in the file explorer.

    The fdisk command return this:

    ``` Festplatte /dev/sdg1: 238,27 GiB, 255835766784 Bytes, 499679232 Sektoren Einheiten: Sektoren von 1 * 512 = 512 Bytes Sektorgröße (logisch/physikalisch): 512 Bytes / 512 Bytes E/A-Größe (minimal/optimal): 512 Bytes / 512 Bytes Festplattenbezeichnungstyp: dos Festplattenbezeichner: 0xf4f4f4f4
    ```

    I tried following this: https://www.reddit.com/r/raspberry\_pi/comments/habv0q/fixing\_linux\_sd\_card\_reader\_issues\_inputoutput/ but it didn't change anything

    Does anyone have any idea?

    EDIT: I used the wrong fdisk command. I used /dev/sdg1 as opposed to /dev/sdg which is the actual drive. Here is the output of fdisk -l /dev/sdg:

    ``` Festplatte /dev/sdg: 238,3 GiB, 255869321216 Bytes, 499744768 Sektoren Festplattenmodell: STORAGE DEVICE Einheiten: Sektoren von 1 * 512 = 512 Bytes Sektorgröße (logisch/physikalisch): 512 Bytes / 512 Bytes E/A-Größe (minimal/optimal): 512 Bytes / 512 Bytes Festplattenbezeichnungstyp: dos Festplattenbezeichner: 0x00000000
    Witcher 3 not launching at all
    Hi everybody, A few months back I bought the Wichter III complete edition in a steam sale. I finally have time to play it and now it won't launch. Not on my steam deck and not on my Fedora PC. On PC it is just stuck saying "is beeing started" right next to the play button. On my steam deck it is stuck on a blackscreen with a steam loading symbol...
    Has anyone else had these problems?
    Endlich mal wieder Satisfactory gezockt
    Ich bin endlich mal wieder dazu gekommen Satisfactory zu zocken und es war großartig. Circa 10h hat meine Motivation gehalten, nur irgendwie hab ich nicht so sonderlich viel geschafft. Ziel war eine Alu Fabrik zu bauen. Hat erstmal 2h gedauert bis ich die freigeschaltet hatte. Parallel hab ich dann noch meine Stahl Produktion optimiert, schließlich wollte ich Bahnstrecken bauen um die Rohstoffe hin und her zu transportieren. Am Ende habe ich auch nicht viel mehr geschafft als das. Ich habe verdammt viel erkundet und sehr viel Zeit damit verbracht Bauxit, Quartz und Kohle an besagte Bahnstrecke anzuschließen. Aber selbst wenn es am Ende nicht viel geworden ist, so hatte ich doch hammer viel Spaß daran meine Zeit zu verschwenden, und wofür sind Videospiele da, wenn nicht dafür.
    (Btw die scheiß Alpha Spitter sind das gruseligste was mir seit langem in einem Spiel begegnet sind)
    Propagation of edits
    I made a post in this magazine introducing my 2 instances. Of course I made typos and therefore edited it. Interestingly it is now edited on kbin.social, but not on thebrainbin.org (my other instance): image .
    So if I post something from instance A to a magazine on instance B and edit the post, it seems like all other instances do not get the edited post...
    Spielt hier jemand Satisfactory?
    Bei mir ists inzwischen ne Weile her, liegt aber daran, dass ich allgemein momentan nicht viel zocke
    New KBin instances
    I saw a post about new kbin instances and thought: "well I could announce mine here as well", so thats what I am doing.
    I recently created 2 #kbin instances:
    There aren't a lot of magazines on there, yet (just the ones I am interested in), but thats about to change.
    Signups are open, and hopefully the email verification works, but I suspect that mails will be put in the spam folder, just FYI. If anyone has problem signing up, you can just use the contact form or message me at @BentiGorlich or any of the admin accounts
