Hey PC Master Race community! And hi anyone else that stumbles upon this post and is not a member of the PCMR community!
Summer is almost over, and it has been an interesting year for sure. I previously did a giveaway for last Winter Holiday 2023, and decided I should do another giveaway! Basically because we here in Lemmy are still alive and kicking, and I want to do something nice for a few lucky gamers.
Games I'm giving away:
Some of the games have multiple key codes, denoted by the quantity.
Update Sep 21:
All the games above that aren't striked through are still available.
Will post these either next week or the week after, so I can rest and recover from my cold.
Post will be in [email protected]
Update Sep 8:
The other games listed above did not have anyone enter for them. I will make a new post in [[email protected]](https://lemmy.world/c/giftofgaming) to giveaway those keys. The list starts with "Agatha Knife".
How to Enter:
Comment on this post with the one game you are interested in.
Optional: Post or create a meme that made you laugh and is Safe For Work. NSFW stuff will be deleted.
Optional: Share something interesting, fun, and/or cool that happened to you this year. Or share a hobby you picked up, a show you recently watched, the latest game that blew you away, whatever! Just share something fun to read rather than the usual: "Entering for X game, thanks."
Restrictions
You can only enter once, and pick only one game.
Your Lemmy account must be at least 30 days old and have participated recently in Lemmy/Fediverse.
If your account appears to be a bot, troll, spam account, or just a creepy/gross/hateful person, you will not be selected.
I will randomly select eligibile winners in this original post.
You will be notified via two ways: I will @ mention you and reply on your comment to this post. I will also send you a Private Message on Lemmy.
If you are selected, you will have 48 hours to respond to me to claim your eligibility.
For transparency, please also reply to my public-facing comment so that others know you received and claimed the game successfully.
If I do not get a response from you after 48 hours, you are forfeited and a new winner will be redrawn the next day until all game codes are exhausted.
Deadlines:
You must enter by end of day Saturday, August 31, 2024, local time.
I will make a new post and start drawing winners the following week.
Disclaimers:
This is not a sponsored post of any kind. I purchased these keys myself, with my hard-earned money, exclusively for the sole purpose of this giveaway.
The keys activate only on Steam as Retail OEM keys.
The keys come only from Green Man Gaming, a legitimate key resller. They do not come from sketchy places like G2A (NEVER, ever do business with companies like G2A or Kinguin).
There are other games, donated by a kind, anonymous Lemming that were sourced from other trusted resellers: Fanatical, Games Planet, and Humble Bundle. These codes all activate on Steam, but do note that Two Point Hospital is region-locked to EU countries only.
Best of luck everyone! Reply to this comment if you have questions.
Please continue to be kind to each other, and most importantly, be kind to yourself. It's easy to get so angry in today's divisive world. You can't change the world, but you can certainly help those closest to you.
Stay safe everyone!

EDIT Sep 21: All games were claimed!
There's still a list of leftover keys that an anonymous Lemmy user donated to me. I'll make a separate post on [email protected] either next week or the week after, just so I can take some rest and recover from my cold.
Thanks again everyone for participating! Look out for a future big giveaway I'll host, most likely in Winter 2024. Stay safe, and as always: remember to be kind to each other. Be kind to yourself - you'd be surprised what a difference you can make for yourself and others in your local community by being kind.
I already own the games that I'm interested in, so no entry here, just wanted to say thanks for putting on this giveaway two years in a row and making the fediverse feel a little more fun.
No prob! The fediverse is still a nascent platform, and even PCMR is a nascent community compared to the Reddit original. Plus I guess I'm not cool enough or creative enough to make frequent posts every day like The Picard Maneuver, but I try to comment at least once every other day.
Giveaways are always fun! At least I can do that periodically lol
Now I just need to find a game you might be interested in next time. :)
Plus I guess I'm not cool enough or creative enough to make frequent posts every day like The Picard Maneuver
It is quite impressive and, honestly, frightening how one user can be the source of so much of the content here. I don't think anyone can reasonably set such standards for themselves.
I'm more than happy to continue cheering giveaways from the sidelines. I'm not rich by any means, but I'm lucky enough to be able to get myself a game if I really want it; save em for someone who might not be able to!
Not entering, just wanna applaud you for doing this. I bought the TR I-III remaster in the summer sale and I will say I am pleased with it at the sale price. It plays pretty well on Steam Deck and scratches the nostalgia itch.

Installing FF5 now because I love the early iteration of switchable classes, then I'll loop back around and play them in order. So I guess I have the next 300-400 hours planned.
Super cool of you to do! I've definitely been curious to try Hogwarts Legacy.
Random fact I learned recently; dragonflies are statistically the most successful predatora on the planet with a 96% success rate. For comparison, a lion is about 27-34% successful while hunting.

Good god. And I thought The Lord of the Rings was long!
I have never heard of this and gleaned some info about it on Wikipedia. What are your thoughts? Was it worth dedicating your time to reading all that? it sounds like a huge commitment but if it's good I'll give it a go.
I read lots of fiction and bits of non-fiction. I guess the longest fiction series that I read would be the Percy Jackson and the Olympians universe from Rick Riordan. He's got so many different spin-offs and I've read almost all of them, so I'd consider that to be like 10k pages, maybe.
Worm is definetly worth it imo. One of the best fantasy stories I have experienced. Either on TV or in book. It's everybody's cup of tea, because it is a fantasy in present day, where people have super powers. If you are into that you will probably like. Some people might compare it to marvel or dc, but I would say the only similarities are the there are superheroes. Worm is really dark, especialy later. People acually have interesting powers, instead of just variations on super strength or speed. When people fight there is often some cool implementation of their power.
I acually listened to audiobook. There is fan made one, with pretty good narrator.
https://abaddonproductions.org/category/worm/
You can listen to it on podcast apps like anthenapod. Book is around 175 h long. I listened to it on 1.5 speed. It took me about 2 and half weeks. I can listen during my work, almost whole shift. I really take advantage of that. I go through 130+ books in a year.
Now for the sequel Ward, that I started recently. I dropped it like 2 weeks ago. I was maybe 45% in. Didnt like what the author did with one of my favorite characters from Worm. Maybe I will finish it later idk yet, story is very interesting too.
Definetly still recommend Worm, even if you would not plan to read the sequel. Worm works as a standalone book and the ending has great conclusion.
Here is another recomendation for long series.
Wandering Inn. Currently you can read it on author website. Or you can listen to audiobooks. That's what I have been doing. Narrator is amazing imo. Some people say first book is rough. I really liked it either way. But author took the criticism and is making revised version of the first book. So maybe wait for that. Currently there is 13 books, each has around 1300 pages. The longest is second one. It has 1700 pages. Now, I'm waiting for the 14th. Start of the series is laid off, slice in life even. But later it turns into epic fantasy, with a ton of characters, politics, adventures etc. Author even started new spin off series with first book: Gravesong.
@[email protected] - Congratulations! Since you're the only one who entered for Pony Island, you're the winner! I've sent you a Direct Message containing the key! If you would like for transparency purposes, please reply to my comment here and let everyone know you successfully claimed it. Thanks for entering and happy you won!
+1 on neir automata. Don’t look anything up about the story, Yoko Taro (I think that’s who directed the story) has one crazy mind for story telling the game is absolutely nuts
Buy the game for the big android butts and stay for… well you’ll see
Heres a meme I stole permanently borrowed from somewhere:
As for something I recently did:
I played through Fallout: New Vegas for the first time, which was a great experience. While the gameplay is decent, the factions and their story within the game are really well thought out and implemented imo. So I highly recommend it for those who have been on the fence about it.
I wish everyone else the best of luck and thanks OP for generously hosting this!
I want to be a hairy wizard! One entry for Hogwarts please!
Meme folder is a little dry right now so here's a picture of my new puppy Ásgeirr. Thanks for doing a giveaway OP, just another of the good bits of reddit I'm happy to see here at our new home.
Your english is great, dude. I only speak one primary language, and for other languages I only know how to ask "where is the bathroom" and the swear words. You always have to learn the swear words LOL.
I took my little goofballs off cousins to an amusement park, never been so scared in my life as I see the youngest instantly take off like Usain Bolt. So glad they got phones at least because I wasn't sure how I would explain to my uncle that I lost his child 5 seconds after entering.
Hogwarts Legacy has been on my list, but was waiting for everything to be fixed first.
My wife and I just had our second child, so not a lot of free time, but hoping to get some more gaming in once he starts going longer between feedings. Our 3 year old is a great big sister and everything is going about as well as you could hope.
I love that you're doing this! Super cool. I would like to throw my hat in for FFVII Remake. I started it on PS5 when it released, but I've since gotten rid of my console and am now an exclusive PC gamer. It's got a platinum rating on ProtonDB, so I am ready.
As for anecdotes, well, I've introduced my 65+ year old parents to anime! We've been meeting once a week for the past month or so to watch Attack on Titan. It's been great watching the show for a second time (so much foreshadowing!) and seeing my parents really get into it.
Whoa! Now that’s something I definitely did not expect, are oldies getting into an anime like Attatck on Titan! That’s pretty cool! I haven’t finished the series yet but wow did the first three seasons I watch blow me away back then.
Pretty neat thing to get a cool little bonding experience with them that way!
Heh. Now that I think about it my mom has heard of Dragon Ball Z since my siblings and I used to watch it when I was younger. I think she calls him Gopu though instead of Goku lol. It’s been like 20 years or so, I can’t remember how she said it.
Hogwart Legacy has been on my list for a while now, but not high enough to buy while I have such a large backlog.
Hmm... I've got a few memes, but I'll also talk about one of my hobbies: butterfly knife flipping.
A few years ago I stumbled across a video of someone doing some sick trick with a balisong. I found the balisong subreddit and did some research, bought a cheapo trainer off Amazon, and practiced and watch YouTube videos until my fingers were bruised.
Eventually for to be pretty decent (enough to impress people IRL with a few tricks, not internet good) and got a few nice knives and trainers (a few Squid Industries, a Kershaw Lucha w/ Flytanium handles, and some random others). I already semi-collect pocketknives, so this is a step past that.
Downside is, balisongs tree expensive, and I tend to cycle my hobbies and not come back to them for a while. Right now I'm not in a flipping kick, but maybe someday soon I'll get back to it...

So nice of you to do this! I see other comments suggesting TRI-III remastered runs well on Deck, so I would love a chance to give that a go!
I just finished Horizon: Forbidden West last week (playing the DLC now), and it left me with mixed feelings. I loved the story of the first game so much, and was so excited when FW came to PC, but it just did not hit the same way. RIP Lance Reddick, anytime Sylens was in the story it was a treat.
Good to hear that feedback about Forbidden West. I, too, enjoyed the heck out of Horizon Zero Dawn and loved the story.
I kind of heard similar sentiment around Horizon FW, so as a patient gamer, I'm waiting for a hefty discount before I pick it up. I'm thinking I'll play it probably in late 2025 or 2026.
Well, welcome to Lemmy, homie! Happy to have you here! Browse around and see what it has to offer, and if it interests you, try to get involved and comment. If you're an original thinker you can make posts, but I'm not cool enough to be a daily poster LOL.
I'll definitely do a future giveaway for us for sure, but next time I need to diversify the game choices. These were all just on great sales, so you know... a bit cheaper on me that way! :)

My girlfriend has been watching her friends dog while they are out of town and she sent me this recently. I can’t exactly remember the pups name right offhand which is sad because I went to his birthday party.. they had cake, a portrait on the wall and they actually made stickers of the dog for everyone.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade would be rad, the og was the first rpg I played and finished.

Well that’s a cute pup and I always love a derpy face! I’ll admit a dog birthday party is different, but I’ve never been invited to something like that before. I just give special treats to my pets for their birthdays
Hello! Very cool idea. I would like to enter for the Tomb raider survivor trilogy. A recent hobby I've discovered is repairing old bikes, which turns out to be really fun and actually useful as well!
Great thing to do for sure! I loved biking as a kid, perhaps I should take it up as an adult. I work on my car, and it's good to just sort of zone out and do some manual work, but it is exhausting and makes you sore if you haven't done it in a while. Working on a bike sounds less grueling and possibly more fun.
I would love working on cars, but where I live mechanical cars, as in not modern cars that have something to repair, are incredibly rare and would easily cost you tens of thousands just for the car, not including the tools. But second hand marketplaces have loads of free bikes with just minor things like flat tires. Just recently saw a 24 gear racing bike for free, with AFAIK just a flat tire.

Tomb Raider I-III Remasted will be fun to play. I had one of the originals on ps1 that I played years ago. I always got stuck right at the beginning in a cave section and never got past it. It would be interesting to give it another shot 😂.
I enjoyed the reboot trilogy from a few years ago, and I've been meaning to play the original games. Great way to get into it is with the Remastered ones! Good luck!
Something cool that happened to me this year? I would say meeting my LDR partner after not seeing him for almost a full year!!! The best thing is, the LDR part was so painless because I just fully trust him and his commitment to the relationship.
I have some hydrohomies and/or dad jokes memes saved but this one just absolutely got me.
<you won't regret this "NSFW" meme, i guarantee>
I'm interested in Strange Horticulture because it is in my wishlist for awhile! :D
Edit: Changed the game I picked and remove any mention of previous game. 👍
LMAO now this is a stupid meme right here! I absolutely giggled at this one. Thank you so much for this meme! I'm work from home, but if I was in office I'd really want to try this on someone!
Congrats on meeting your LDR partner!! That's wonderful and I wish you the best of luck and success in that relationship!
I've intentionally avoided FF7 remake spoilers, having played that game as a kid. I was fortunate because while I had a struggling parent and certainly couldn't afford one, we were able to get our hands on one at a flea market I think when the PS2 launched. The seller wasn't sure what they had, so we got it at a really good price.
@[email protected] - Congratulations! Since you're the only one who entered for Strange Horticulture, you're the winner! I've sent you a Direct Message containing the key! If you would like for transparency purposes, please reply to my comment here and let everyone know you successfully claimed it. Thanks for entering and happy you won!
Hi, thank you very much! Sorry I'm using my alt account because it seems like lemdro.id's instance is acting up.
I've check the key I got in my DM for Strange Horticulture but it said that it can't be redeemed from my country (Indonesia). Not sure why, considering the game is not blocked in my country. Is it possible the key can only be redeemed in certain countries?
As much as I love Final Fantasy (I have all the originals on Steam, even the PC ports of 7 & 8), Harry Potter would be for my kid. She loves that universe
Who cares what your kid wants? Just get Final Fantasy for yourself. Go on, do it!
just kidding! My spouse and I are in talks for having kids, and this is one of the biggest things I'm looking forward to is getting a little one that will be into gaming as much as me.
I love the HP universe, I just hate the author. Hogwarts Legacy was a great game! Best of luck to you and your kid if you win!
Over the last year I’ve been dating a potterhead and I never read/watched the whole series (due to generally disliking fictional books and not really watching movies). However, I love video games and feel like playing Hogwarts Legacy would allow me to know the universe of HP a little better while also being more connected with my boyfriend’s interests - we could also play it together!
Now that's a good plan! Best of luck with you, as I enjoyed the game since it did connect with that universe. The game design and locations are very similar to how it's presented in the movies and heavily considers the books. They did a wonderful job being as true to the universe as they could, and it was a delight to fly around on a broom and see Hogwarts.
Fun story to share - my spouse was also a big potterhead, but what they never told me was that they didn't finish the books (and I thought they did).
I won't reveal spoilers, so I'll be very generic. But there's a certain book later in the series where a major plot twist occurs that really surprised me. My spouse and I were dating at the time, and I let it slip what that spoiler was, and they pretended they knew about it and never told me. Years later after we were married, they revealed the truth to me. I. Was. Devastated.
But, grateful that they said Yes and married me anyway LOL.
First of all, excellent username.
Second, I would love a chance to win the Tomb Raider I - III remaster just for the nostalgia.
Third, the cool new thing I've done this year is take part in WeeklyBeats, a year-long challenge to create and post a new music track every week of 2024. So far so good!
Fourth, I don't have a decent meme to share but here (if I can get photos to work) is a photo of my void.
Hell yeah I’ll always take cute cat pics! Thanks for sharing, you love to see a good void.
I haven’t heard of weekly beats, but that’s a pretty dope thing to do. I can’t imagine getting inspired to try to come up with a new song each week, so it sounds like a really cool creative outlet and a lot of fun - provided of course it doesn’t get stressful.
It has been surprisingly un-stressful so far, probably due to the ridiculously supportive community there. The best part is that everyone's submissions go live at the same time every week, so there's a whole new playlist of brand new music to enjoy!
I started watching the Nier Automata anime last night and it got me intrigued about the game. I was planning to get the Yorha edition once it gets on sale again.
Thank you for these kind of posts, more power to you and the gatos!
I happened to stumble upon it too, the reviews are praising the adaptation, so I had to watch it. It's available on crunchyroll. 2nd season have just started and is ongoing.
A few friends have been trying to get me into trying out turn-based games, so i'd love that copy of Octopath.
But for exciting news: decided to challenge myself a little, and write out guitar tabs for a recently released song, by ear, which i've never done before. It's been really difficult, but really fun at the same time!
LMAO that's gross as hell, but funny. I know beans is pretty reputable on the Fediverse.
Love Kingdom Hearts, enjoy the journey! I've only played part one, got partway through part two, and then played dream drop distance on 3DS back in the day. But during that whole time I enjoyed it. Definitely need to pick them up on Steam, but I'm a patient gamer now since my time is so limited.
That is too funny! That is pretty much my exact journey. Played 1 until monsto, then played 2 until the end of Roxas, then played a little of DDD. I ended up beating 1 on the console re-release, but the steam deck makes everything easier. Just beat 1 again, and now I'm about halfway through re-chain of memories.
So I've only seen the Star Trek reboot movies with Chris Pine, and Wrath of Khan. Enjoyed them, but I know the Chris Pine ones may not have been like the actual shows and instead more action-oriented or whatever. It's been years since I've seen them.
Everything here is Star Trek, I need to watch them.
Watch The Original Series first, then The Next Generation, and Deep Space 9. If you want more of TOS and TNG then watch Voyager and Picard, if you want something modern watch Strange New Worlds. Also watch The Orville, which isn’t technically Star Trek proper but is a great watch. Everyhing is on Paramount+ except The Orville which is on Disney + and Hulu.
I’ve been getting into Metroidvania’s recently. Don’t know how I went 40 years without playing them but here we are. They’re great to play on the Steam Deck.
I hear that all the time, and I'm looking to try out new games. I, perhaps stupidly, bought a bunch of different games such as Bloodstained Ritual of the Night, to try out.
Still haven't played them. I just don't have the time. But my favorite genre is RPG, so perhaps it's time to try out a genre I don't have much experience in - I only played Metroid Prime, a bit of Super Metroid, and I guess Mega Man X-2 if that counts as a metroidvania.
Last game that blew me away was definitely BG3 never played a turn based game longer than a couple hours or a CRPG anything close to BG3 and I loved it. Last sale I picked up there previous games to give them a try sometime. Just started watching "The Gentleman" and to be honest have not picked up a new hobby ever since lifting weights years ago my current hobbies take to much time sadly.
Tomb raider definitive survivor trilogy looks cool! I somehow never played any tomb raider games, but i did hear good things about them. I've been really enjoying the "self aware lara croft plays tomb raider" it's a really fun series about an AI lara croft playing and making in character comments about what's going on. It's pretty cool.
The reboot trilogy (Survivor) was my introduction to Tomb Raider. Enjoyed them very much, they were great games. And it got me to buy and try out some of the older games. I played part I, and I think I started part II but probably some other game caught my attention.
Since I don't remember those playthroughs, the Remastered I-III would be a great reintroduction.
I'll check out the self aware AI you talked about, sounds interesting and has me curious
I’ve never played any of the final fantasy series. I hear so many wonderful things about them. Even heard of a couple who bonded over it. So any of the Final Fantasy. If I should try one before another… let me know. :)
Thanks for entering! It’s tough to decide where to start with Final Fantasy. Thankfully you don’t have to play them in order, and they’re not connected. I’m first experience was 3 on SNES, and then FF VII on Ps1 back in the day.
It might make sense to start with one of the more popular ones. I’d love to tell you 7 Remake since it’s most modern mod to a classic (although I haven’t played remake). FF 9 I heard was amazing, and FF X is a gem. 8 I believe is underrated, I really enjoyed it back in the day.
Generally they all have great stories so I hear. It may be tough to play 1-3 in 2024 unless you grew up on old school JRPGs.
Thank you for doing this in a world of selfishness, your kindness is a beacon of happiness. I wouldn’t mind winning, but your reply gave me the best reward I could get. I’ll take this info and go hunting for my first foray into Final Fantasy. Don’t delete this post. I’ll be back to tell you what I ended up with and how I felt about it.
LOL I started at your comment a little too long trying to decipher what N.2 meant, and I was like, does this person mean "M.2" as in for an M.2 drive for PC? And then it hit me. I am not a smart person sometimes.
More seriously though, I too have been looking forward to FF 1-6. I played some of the more recent FF's (specifically 7, 8, 10, 13) and remember playing bits of III as a kid on SNES. I want to go back to the origin. Since I got my Steam Deck during the winter holiday last year, I can try to make time to play these games on the side, too.
Never heard of those two but I’ll cHeck them out. My spouse and I were playing Raft several years back, but I think we got distracted and forgot to get back to it. That game felt “isolating” in a way, and it was quite enjoyable
Nice, I haven’t flown international in several years, but I brought along my 3DS back then. Steam Deck would be killer for that journey. Best of luck to you, that’d be awesome to play through the trip!

I've been watching Y: The Last Man and started out really digging it, but now that I'm nearing the end (Ep8) it's starting to drag a little. Some interesting things being set up though so hoping it sticks the landing.
How games are meant to be played. Buying the game from a store, reading the included manual while in the car, plopping down in front of the TV with a large fry and large coke.

It happens to the best of us, those Junk Mail Nation guys are not to be trusted. One introduced himself to me as deposed prince in exile looking for some help to land. Almost fell for it though.
I'll give it a go, didn't see the previous give always. The Invincible would be sweet to play in full. I tried the demo and the story had me intrigued and the art style is really cool. Similar in vibe to Red Matter and other "everyone's vanished" mysteries. I'm dumb and can't read. Out of the options there I'd love to relieve some old Tomb Raider nostalgia!
On another note, I recently cleaned up a pretty gnarly PC case. When my friend was in need to a PC I threw together some old parts for him. The last couple of years got pretty dark for him, and his flat was turned into more or less a drug den. But he's recently kicked everyone out and reclaimed it. I was in need of a case to build a server in and he asked if I wanted the old one back as he was able to buy a new computer for himself.
All in all it took a bit over 1 litre of isopropyl alcohol, some elbow grease, and a water hose :P
Heck yeah dude, that's an awesome thing to do for your friend! I went through those pics and you did a bang up job! What specs are in there, if you know? I also really love the Zelda sticker bomb on there, too.
I'm sure he's super appreciative of it all, but most importantly just to get a bit of autonomy after getting all that crazy stuff situated. Life is hard, but getting through tough times with sheer will and perseverance is such a great feeling.
Thanks for doing this! FFVII was my first RPG ever. I remember playing it day in and out. We would have family over for holidays, it didn't matter. I was glued to the TV. Aerith's death made me cry as a young boy. I was devastated. They killed a main character, a love interest. It blew my mind.
Been obsessed with FFVII and the final fantasy series ever since. Nobody Uematsu is an amazing musician. So much depth added.
The story is great, character development is fun.. I just haven't gotten around to picking this up and playing it because life gets in the way and my home constantly needs repairs.. would be nice to pick up and relive things in 2024.
Anyways, I'm hoping to be picked for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.
man that experience you laid out was basically mine, but I was slightly older so I didn't cry at the time. My brother and I were playing ( I think we swapped controllers at certain points so we can play it together), but we were so shocked when that thing happened. I love that game so much but of course only played the OG on PS1.
Thanks for the meme! I'm sort of a LOTR meme connoisseur!
But realistically when I think about it, if Elrond got close to him and tried to push him, naturally Isildur would try to fight him... you know, so he doesn't die. Would the Ring call to Elrond? Elves are super susceptible to that spicy ringo. I think Elrond was right to let the king walk away, especially because if he did kill him, mankind would be like "Yo WTF Elves, let's fight!"
Definitely would love the FF I-VI pixel remaster bundle.
My daughter has been growing so much this year, she is truly a joy to behold. I can't wait to start sharing some of my favorite games with her as she grows up. She has a giant stuffed pikachu that is her favorite toy to crawl to. Her mom.and I take her on walks and play Pokémon Go every day while we stroll her around. Every day we talk about how excited we are for the day she can play alongside us.
I appreciate your story, that's lovely to read. My spouse and I are in talks for kids, and that's what I want too. We're both gamers so it'd be super awesome if our kid(s) would have that same hobby, too. Now I'm tearing up thinking about it LOL.
Thank you very much for that experience, it genuinely made me really happy to read that. That's a very nice thing to do for your daughter.
Haha, I love the phrasing "in talks for kids", negotiations are going well I hope! It's such a commitment- my wife really wanted kids but I wasn't so sure. We always had another thing before we could start and eventually we agreed on just having one. The way the world is, we really wanted to make sure we could commit our focus and energy on her. Now that she's here I couldn't imagine it any other way - she's as much of part of my life as I am, it feels like.
Fun things that happened this year. I made candied jalapeños that were very good, and also the strawberry honey butter. Once fall comes around, I'll make more apple butter!
They're delicious! I recommend them! I sometimes ship them to people, when I have extras. And they're inside the US, cause shipping outside is...wow, super expensive!
I dont need these games. Just curious as to why you are doing this. The giveaways which happened last year was to drive up engagement on lemmy but I don't think that is an issue now. If this is just philanthropy, I think it is very kind of you.
So it's several reasons really. I'll provide only one reason, as the others I don't think I'm ready to share publically.
Right now I'm fortunate to be able to do something like this, and it's entirely philanthropic.
The longer answer:
I just think there is so much anger in the world right now, and perhaps it's because we're all always online. Social Media has caused a lot of problems, and it's very easy for propoganda, mass manipulation, and social engineering to be conducted on grand scales through social media and the predatory algorithms. Thanks to certain people that have used these platforms to amplify their voices and reach, division and normally taboo topics have become more tolerated and accepted. With all that crap going on, and some personal things with relationships I have with some people in my life, I'm just disappointed that the world is so much angrier now. I did some soul-searching and learned to accept what I can control, and do what I could for the people close to me in my life and in my somewhat near community. So for one of my favorite hobbies, gaming, it just made sense to do things like this and offer a giveaway on occasion. It's just a little nice gesture for others so that they can get the opportunity to play some games. I also won several keys in giveaways in Reddit and figure we could do something cool like that here.
Well I hope the crap going on passes and the personal things work out favourably. Just remember that there more sane reasonable people out there than the ones sowing division and hatred. Hell the fact that lemmy is thriving with thousands of servers points to the unity that people can achieve. Cheers
Thanks for the giveaway! I'd love octopath traveller.
Something interesting this year... My workplace agreed to adopt an automatic inflation adjustment and transparent pay scale, and my wife is going back to university to get out of the restaurant business.
Good year so far, hopefully shit doesn't hit the fan following the US elections.
Hey, congrats for your wife! I'm sure she's very much looking forward to that! Definitely do your best to help support her during that time. When my spouse went back to university a few years back, I made sure to give them space and try to do little things like bringing a drink, or a treat when they were studying, etc. It goes a long way, and I wish you both best of luck with that new path and hopefully she lands into a career she'll love.
2024 overall has been a decent year. As a US citizen who is progressive, living in a Red State, I have my own fears about things. I really hope that enough people will vote and we'll make sure to keep fascism at bay. Part of why I love things like giveaways, because I think it's a small treat and a really nice thing to do for others. I got a few game keys over my years at Reddit, and I'd love to see cool stuff like that here if Lemmy grows into a great alternative one day (it's good, but certainly not great. The engagement is quite low and the comments are not stimulating for niche communities).

Oh for sure, we already agreed I'll take over some chores to leave her some more free time to compensate for the study time, and I used to help her study when she was in highschool so I'll just pull the old routines out of the attic lol.
Been together 17 years this year, we're a good team 💪

Oh boy I don't blame you, I hope it goes well for you guys.
Heck yeah, me too! I never had a PSP and never really heard of this game. But I loved FF7 having played it when I was little, and probably a replay of it when I was a young teen. I loved Final Fantasy Advent Children.
Crisis Core is definitely on my backlog to play. My plan is that in 2031 when Sony eventually releases the conclusion to the FF Remake on PC, I will play all four games back to back.
@[email protected] - Congratulations! Since you're the only one who entered for Sniper Elite 4, you're the winner! I've sent you a Direct Message containing the key! If you would like for transparency purposes, please reply to my comment here and let everyone know you successfully claimed it. Thanks for entering and happy you won!
As for cool stuff, I live in Japan these days, and every summer there are festivals that go on every night for several days in a row. There's nothing quite like the feeling of the festivals back home in the US, I think because the repeated music and chanting isn't really something we do. One of the festivals near me makes these giant 20+ m floats that you can see over the tops of buildings. This is contrasted with the fact that the area is kind of poor (for Japan), and is losing population like almost all rural areas, so coming together to put on this kind of event every year makes things feel hopeful in a way.

Thanks, I got it! I'm hoping to have time to get into it over the weekend.
Here's a bonus shot from that festival I mentioned-- definitely the best one I've been to. Anyone who doesn't make it up north for Japan tourism is missing out.
FF13 was my most recent 100% on the quest to 100% all Final Fantasy games on Steam. It's not the best but I do like Lightning. Looking forward to 13-2 and Lightning Returns.
These three in the list are all done too, FF7 three times if you include the remake and crisis core 😅

Awesome that you are doing this! I’ll throw in for a chance at the Final Fantasy I-VI Pixel Remasters.
FF1 was the first RPG I ever played! Fell in love with the series and the genre. But some of those early ones that got strangely named releases (or no release at all) in the U.S. made me miss out on a few of these. I’d be super excited to play through all of them! Middle age has turned me into a nostalgia gamer lol
amen to that. There's very few games coming out these days that I'm interested in, what with my massive backlog. It's really nice to go back to the simpler times and play these games.
I'm waiting for the next sale and will pick up FF pixel remaster too just so I can play them. I played one of them on SNES, but I don't remember it nor did I finish it. Would be good to experience the roots of where it all come from.
Thanks for the giveaway. I'd like to enter for Hogwarts legacy.
I've been playing around with running AI image gen and LLM locally because the tech is cool. Pretty entertaining what you can do with it, but I haven't posted any of what I've generated. Seems to be a good skill to learn as well. Was good motivation to upgrade my RAM from 16G to 32G. Tomorrow, I'm upgrading to 64G.
That's pretty cool! It was something I was thinking of trying out myself locally, since at the moment I don't fully understand what I can do with AI. I don't see a killer app yet, and AI has only helped me on occasion with small tasks.
I just recently watched Poker Face, and it was amazing. I also happened to watch 6 seasons of Columbo in the past year, and Poker Face is Rian Johnson's (Knives Out) tribute to that show. If you were ever a fan, you should check it out.
I haven't done too much gaming recently, I've been busy learning how to work my 3D printer and the last few weeks I got a 1988 Suzuki Samurai I've been messing with and working on.
I'm researching getting into 3D printing. My spouse is sort of on board, because they think about the cool things they can do with it. We'd love to print some cool stuff to solve mini problems, but also for the reward of designing and building things ourselves.
Congrats on your bike, that sounds like a really fun and cool project!
I used to want a bike and loved the idea of one. Bikes, as an adult, is something I can't get into. I wanted to get a sportbike when I was 19 or so, but around then I met my spouse and they told me about their dad's accident on a bike. The dad was a Navy military person, super into safety. He wore full padded armor, helmet, the works. He was stopped at a light and behind a car. Then a car rear-ended him. He ended up being propelled over the car in front of him and landed in the intersection. Broke his leg, broke a few ribs, messed up his knee, and now he has continued pain he deals with. He wouldn't be alive if he wasn't wearing all the proper armor while biking. And then I see bikers on the road without helmets and wearing a tee shirt and jeans LOL. They're playing a dangerous game. So unfortunately, bikes are now no longer for me!
I haven't learned how to make my own 3D models yet, just slightly modify some existing ones. My fiance and I are planning on enrolling in s class for 3D modeling so we can both learn how to do it. There are still so many useful things you can find though. I was surprised how much more than just download the file and hit print there was to it.
The Samurai is like a smaller Jeep Wrangler. I like going off-roading a lot. Mostly got the Samurai as a backup vehicle for when I've got bigger projects on my 4Runner going and can't drive it.
I've considered getting a bike before but would rather put the money into my other vehicles. We've had a few bikers in my town learn the hard way how dangerous it is to not be careful. One of my coworkers pulled out in front of someone thinking they'd be able to accelerate fast enough to avoid them and ended up getting t-boned, luckily the bike was more hurt than he was. Another coworker left work in the rain and tried to take off super fast out of the parking lot, lost control, and rear ended a parked semi. He broke both legs and his pelvis, it will be 10 weeks before he can start putting weight on them again, and then he can start physical therapy to learn how to walk again. I've seen 2-3 other news articles about similar incidents the last couple months too.
I wanna give Nier automata a try and I guess I will share something interesting.
Slowly for the past month I have been trying to make a markdown notes app which is inspired by Google Keep and Obsidian, last week I finally decided to add it to github. The fun part is that it is written in dart/flutter, but I started learning flutter like 3 months ago cuz it was a cool language that can easily be compiled to all devices from Linux to Windows to iOS and Android. Regardless, this project has consumed all consious thought in my brain, but I still suck at it and not many libraries I can use that achieve what I need, a struggle for sure.
Currently I am trying to figure out how to make it sync with Nextcloud first, then I plan to add other services like rsync, dropbox, gdrive, etc. Sorry if this sounds more like an advertisement for my app, I just never put my heart and soul into something so much before.
I've recently gotten into sim racing (assetto corsa and dirt rally) and got a whole setup with a wheel, pedals, and shifter. Unfortunately the setup makes it difficult to get at my mouse and keyboard to play "normal" games, but I'm in the process of figuring it out
Hi there! Sorry, the contest is already over as of Aug 31st. I'm drawing winners now and just waiting to hear back from people as they trickle in their responses.
Keep an eye on the next one: I'm aiming to do another one somewhere around the upcoming Winter holiday. Cheers!
Any idea when you might get around to the 2nd winners of the games that have 2? We know you're a busy person and you're great nonetheless. Was just curious :]
3: Best thing which happened this year was convincing my landlord to upgrade the gas hot water system to a heat pump. I hated that old HWS so fucking much...
I mean, it's gotta be Final Fantasy I-VI Bundle (Pixel Remasters, because I've only played through VI and IV once every 5 years and I should get those numbers up.

You seem to be a nice guy. Do you know who is not a nice guy? J.K. Rowling. She is scum. So buying Hogwarts Legacy would be a big no no for me. Piracy or as a gift it's fine. So if I am one of the lucky few, I would be happy to get a copy.
