While MAGA-loving Republicans celebrated Trump’s pick for running mate this week, so did Democrats. Andrew Feinberg reports on why the opposition believes Vance is such an easy target for their upcoming campaigns
Vance seems like the kind of sleaze that would throw Trump under the bus too. Honestly I think it's gonna come down to who gets the opportunity first. Its like a sith master and apprentice.
I didn't really know anything about him until recently, but from what I've been reading, that's spot on. He doesn't have principles except whatever is expedient in the moment. He's happy to fellate Trump now, but if there's an opportunity to get more power for himself, he's going to take it, regardless of Trump.
We can only hope. I'm more wary of the torch being passed on to him. Trump has a limited shelf life, but Vance is young.
And before the wave of "Trump doesn't share power", I know. I'm not talking about what Trump intends, I'm talking about all of Trumps powerful allies who want continued influence after Trump.
Trump will try to neuter Vance, for sure. But I have my doubts that he can pull it off.
What makes trump “work” - the con - on all these moronic shitheads is something Vance does not and will never possess. They may mutate it into some more overt crypto-fascist money cult, but they’ll never get the batshit dialed in to the sweet spot they have at the moment.
Conservative Christians / Evangelicals loved Pence. He was a big reason Trump was elected imo. I don't think this new jabroni will help trump like pence did.
I’m not sure Trump needs that kind of supporting appeal this time around. He survived an assassination attempt - to his religious followers, that is divine providence.
I believe the new jabroni was chosen for entirely different reasons. There is a significant MAGA uprising going on in Silicon Valley, and Vance is well connected there. This is an inroad previously impassable for republicans…
And don't believe his sob story about his mother, I looked into it... She was an RN who kept raiding the controlled substances cabinet, had nothing to do with "Mexicans forcing drugs on her"
Vance doesn't win any demographic that was lagging for Trump. Anyone who likes Vance was already voting Trump. Strategically on that alone, he's a wasted pick. (I'm not complaining, don't worry)
I heard somewhere he has connections to money that Trump needs for the campaign, so that might be what drove it.
It's pretty clear Vance previously hated Trump. And it's surprising Trump picked Vance after those comments, but when neither person has a moral compass to stick to, just like the rest of the party, overlooking those kinds of issues becomes much easier.
I mean, it's not like they could ever find anyone worse than trump. I doubt this will hurt Trump's election seeing as how republicans are already fine electing a conman rapist pedophile scumbag.
knowing how these guys like to act tough and force people to kiss the ring I bet this could just have been trump putting vance into a position where he in no way can talk bad about trump after him being "anti-trump"
This is because Trump’s two other reported finalists for the job, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and Florida Senator Marco Rubio, each boasted positive qualities that could have shored up the former president’s known weaknesses.
They said: “You come within inches of having your head turned inside-out, and two days later the guy you pick for the job of being alive in the event you are dead is the millennial freshman who has exactly one election and two years in the Senate under his belt?
Democrats and Democratic-aligned groups are salivating over the opening provided by Trump’s tapping the Buckeye State senator as his number-two, citing what they described to The Independent as a smorgasbord of opposition research that will be used to make Vance politically toxic to persuadable swing voters within a matter of weeks.
In a statement, DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd said Vance is joining Trump in “running on an extreme Project 2025 agenda – and the American people deserve to know that they’re planning to rip away their health care, gut Social Security, strip their reproductive freedoms, and shill for big corporations on the backs of working families.”
One person involved in an anti-Trump political committee told The Independent that voters can expect to see significant opposition research deployed against Vance to paint him as “too damn weird.”
“Vance was essentially created in a lab by Peter Thiel,” the person said, referring to the PayPal co-founder and major Republican donor who has funded numerous “new right” political candidates.

That’s assuming that the Democrats’ opposition research cuts through editorial directives at the billionaire-owned media and “fact checking” on corporate social media. If the Owners are set on Trump, the NYT, CNN, and such will bury any adverse revelations about Vance, instead running non-stories about him having conservative/libertarian views within the Overton window or once having gotten someone’s name wrong or something, and that Mother Jones story about mandatory period tracking or privatising the Weather Service will be shadowbanned as “false” because Zuck says so. A few hundred trekkies on Mastodon will know the truth and chant it to themselves with increasing desperation, seeming to anyone stumbling in from the outside world like the horsepaste/5G-vaccine/ancient-astronaut truthers on boomer Facebook groups.
While that article has some good, relatable points, Vance still managed to be elected, so there are a lot of people that won't be swayed by this at all. Maybe some of the Democratic voters that didn't vote last time will take this as an incentive to go vote.
