Highly recommend checking out wefwef - closest option to an Apollo clone as I've seen so far in terms of UI and functionality, and doesn't even need to be installed. Memmy is a very good second place option, but I've been using wefwef since I heard about it yesterday and ZI think it's better.
Are you using it as an installed PWA? I’m not having any issues with animations or scrolling. I have run into a few weird UI bugs with slide up menus within communities, but that’s about it.
I started with Mlem and wasn’t a huge fan and was primarily using Memmy. But I decided to try mlem again as it’s been a while and it looks much better! Might be my new daily driver. I’ll give wefwef a try too.
Agreed in most scenarios, but wefwef is arguably the best PWA I’ve ever used - it’s nice right now as an option to get something into user’s hands quickly without waiting for App Store approval. Would love to see it become a native app eventually.
Using it right now. So far it's nice. But I have like 7 plus the browser. See which becomes my default in time. I am just so used to RIF it's going take an adjustment.
If you're on an iPhone, https://wefwef.app is pretty much the best and easiest way to get up and running. Way more options on Android right now, though.
I like wefwef, except the name is terrible and hard to type in a phone. So far, the only UI problem I have with it is it’s too easy to accidentally downvote when trying to upvote by swiping right.
Also, I just noticed, the upvote/downvote colours are reversed. It’s going to take time to get used to blue being upvote and red being downvote.
['Distracted Boyfriend' - A stock photo image of a man walking side by side with a woman in a blue shirt, holding hands, as a different woman in a red shirt walks past. The man appears to be whistling at the woman walking past, showing clear interest in her looks, while the woman he is walking with looks at him. The face of the woman next to him is replaced by the app icon for the app "Apollo for Reddit", while the woman he is looking at has her face replaced by the app icon for "Memmy for Lemmy"]

Apollo is more like the wife who was murdered by Reddit, now watching you from heaven, hoping that you find a new social media platform to make you happy.
He addressed that a bit ago. That kind of undertaking would be pretty big, since the data structure on the back end is so much different. It’s not out of the question, but not something he wants to do right now.
I’ve got that bookmarked and it is great, but I’ve been using Memmy for now. It does the slide for up/down votes (or whatever they’re called here) but a slightly different UI
Edit: Connect was my favorite until i realized its absolutely riddled with trackers. RIP. Currently trying Wefwef but ill probably come back to Jerboa.
The only thing I'd change about Connect is the visability of comment interaction buttons but other than that with a few tweaks to font sizes and stuff it's a fairly similar experience to RIF.
As a former RIF user, I personally like Liftoff, which you can get in the Play Store, but other popular options are Jerboa, Thunder, Connect for Lemmy, wefwef, and Summit.
Connect and Liftoff are able to give a similar RIF UI. I was really liking Liftoff until I just now noticed why it was so "quiet" despite trying to chat a storm: it has no inbox and no notifications. Connect does, though. But it has less options for customizing the layout...
I want something that takes the best of both and smushes them together. 😩
I started using jerboa cause of a random suggestion, how does everyone feel about it? I noticed it doesnt collect user data and I think it said it encrypts stuff, which I like for privacy
Jerboa used to work but it crashes for me now. I even tried uninstalling and making sure a version compatible with my server was installed (cleared app data and cache too), but nope, It's borked for me.
I use Connect for Lemmy now. Once Boost is out I'll most likely switch
Same, I do wish connect had quick buttons to move between connects. You can collapse a comment section by holding down the parent comment, but I haven't found a way to navigate quickly.
I have been getting "timeout" errors, which are a sign that none of my votes or comments for the couple minutes before the first error notice have actually landed. Happened a few times today and past couple days, although I can't tell if this is from an app bug or an overloaded instance server.
Jerboa was one of the first legit apps out there for Android. But then it killed itself and became a horribly buggy, crashing mess. It doesn't seem to crash as much anymore, but scrolling is very laggy and glitchy still for me. Wouldn't recommend it at the moment, sadly, but I appreciate it as a pioneer.
I'm using it. I like it better than connect which is the only other one on the play store right now. There are more but you have to install them off github. I'll just wait till they make it to play store to try those out.
Yeah, it's not too bad here. Got a dope username and gonna go on a spree searching up some cool new communities. There will always be enough people relaying all the reddit content, so why bother ig
I was so happy when I found my normal username was available here on Lemmy. It's a shallow reason to like the app, but it's part of what really sold it to me and made me check it out further, and so far, I'm really happy I did.
I always wanted something better than my reddit username so I went with something unique! Hopefully the marijuanaenthusiasts page gets more users soon.
I think usernames are specific to the instance, so any time in the future a person can start up their own instance and get user@myinstance, but your username at lemmy.world is yours.
I think that's a wondrously extensible way of extending the username space.
Memmy has seriously improved over the past two weeks, it’s development has been extremely fast and I’m very impressed with my limited casual use so far.
Started with Jerboa until the 0.18.0 issue, switched to Thunder which was buggier than I liked. But now that Liftoff is finally on F-Droid it feels like I've found the definitive Android client. Well until Artemis that is.
I didn't see it on fdroid but it looks like it's on the play store early release. I tried from GitHub but was having issues with my phone and loading the apk
Oh for sure. Mlem, even when it was the only real option, was pretty flawed and I found myself regularly just going to Lemmy through my browser instead.
So now with options like Memmy and WefWef it’s not even a comparison.
For Android I'm using Liftoff and it just works so far. I'm really happy for it being an app in alpha. Still missing many features by Reddit app had, of course
Wefwef is one of the smoothest ones I've used so far! Lacks some features, but seems to be a lot more stable and usable than some others. I also like how simple the UI is, like how RIF had a sort of "bare bones" look to it. I've heard Liftoff is gaining traction tho as well.
This is why I'm not in a huge rush to move away from Jerboa. If there's a clear frontrunner, I may switch, but I'm not switching every time there's a two day outage while waiting on patches. They're all gonna hit speed bumps as the userbase grows until everything settles out.
I'm currently using Connect for Lemmy from the Play Store. Not the same feel as RiF but it is very simplistic in nature yet still feature-rich, which counts in my book!
Yeah, life is good, Connect is fine and keeps on constantly getting better. Also, Boost and Sync are on the horizon. In the end it's a pity that I will use only one of those apps.
Does every Lemmy app need to try and mimic Apollo? I personally liked narwhal the most and would like something more in line with that. Narwhal handles links and content better than Apollo or any of the Lemmy apps I’ve used so far. I also don’t need my front page to be so big, even in compact mode. Just give me the text without a huge ass picture/link image to the side of the title.
On PC at least, go to your account settings and you can toggle 'Show read posts'. Untick this, and anything upvoted or looked at (looked at the comments, aka opened up) Will go away upon refresh.
This behaviour will carry over to the apps on refresh. It's quite aggressive though, so if you comment on something and want to check back on the activity you better bookmark it. But if you're like me , you only mostly care about replies to your comment :P
I just need to figure out how to add more “subreddits” or whatever they are called and how to switch between them but other than that this app feels great so far. Fuck Spez. Currently using Memmy
Memmy has had an amazing development cycle. Big thing that Thunder has that Memmy doesn’t is swipe access to my communities. Really like swiping in from the left in Thunder and having that list. Memmy you need to click the star and it’s a bit of a reach while one handed.
I was a fan of RedReader, the dev seems want to add lemmy support, so let's hope for that. So far jeroba and summit... Both are nice, actually. So i might stick to them.
I'm enjoying Summit. It's still in beta but seems smooth. I'm a long time RIF user. I think this app is the closest I've come to the feel of RIF so far
I started with Jeroba a few weeks ago and it was serviceable. After the server updates and rollbacks and all that jazz I decided to try Liftoff. It's a decent app but I am so used to Sync for Reddit that it's hard to adjust. I'm eager for LJ to get Sync for Lemmy out in the wild in a month or two.
