Nerd, truck driver, and kinda creeped that you're reading this.
There's no "hacking" involved to use non-steam services on the Deck. Except maybe gamepass but since Microsoft is making that shitty now is it really that important lol?
So does macOS, but as long as you can still enable it in settings eh, fine.
Ah yes because Marxist-Leninists never talk about historical materialism
While absolutely the right call, I'm sure my family will be relieved when the evading arrest charges are dropped. They'll have enough going on planning my funeral.
Probably parents money. But even if it were a loan she'd have to have had more privilege than most to get to that position anyway.
I find it hard to imagine learning a language that I don't foresee myself using at least once a week IRL
I've tried learning French and German but honestly I very rarely encounter speakers of those languages and can count on one hand the number that didn't also speak English.
I've been learning Spanish though for nearly a year to great success.
Theoretically it should only be running during gameplay, and that's probably true as I'm sure security researchers would've pointed it out if games installed a persistently running rootkit. So it's different than Crowdstrike which was running immediately from boot.
So there is that, if it caused your PC to crash it should be fine after reboot. The driver has God power though as far as your PC goes so if it was the point of entry for a malicious attack you could be really screwed.
Edit: apparently I'm wrong and it runs all the time what the fuck
The walls were put up after the toilet, possibly. (Probably fake)
2020 was pretty close and Biden's image hasn't gotten any better and clearly wasn't going to. He was never going to win.
Actually that's not a bad idea at all
Biden had zero, and I mean ZERO chance of winning. This was the only real choice.
That's cool
Hopefully one day they can do it for a cause beyond filling the coffers of the rich through exploitative work. (And also never feel obligated to work past retirement should they wish to stop)
Y todos los estudiantes de espaƱol tienen problemas con eso. (Al menos que ya hablen una idioma similar....)
Pero los estoy aprendiendo.... lentamente.
I think they were just pointing out that an ice cube can't be a sphere. it's a cube...
Spanish has "antier" for the second one.
Also a fun one "Estrenar", which can mean something like "try for the first time". So you might say "I tried out my bike for the first time the day before yesterday" in English, you could simply say "EstrenƩ mi bicicleta antier" in Spanish
The Lemmy Club has updated to Lemmy 0.19.4!
Sorry it took 35 minutes over my promised timeframe. My fault. I should've been keeping up my Ansible config not bumbling around manually. Then I would've known that I needed to uncap pict-rs' memory limit. Ah well we got there in the end.
----
0.19.4 mostly changes things in the backend, but there are a couple notable user features:
-
You can now see all media you've uploaded and delete what you wish (only affects media uploaded after the upgrade)
-
Better federation with Mastodon and other similar software, all posts are tagged with the community name (in the background, you won't see it) so that Mastodon users can see them.
-
Vote totals now have settings. You can see a total (Upvotes minus downvotes), both seperate, or a percentage.
You can see the full changelog here.
As always, thanks for being a member of The Lemmy Club.

If youād like to help contribute to our ongoing costs, or would like to show some appreciation, you can at OpenCollective: https://opencollective.com/thelemmyclub
This instance is funded primarily out of my own pocket with no return whatsoever. The costs aren't too high (~$250/yr) but community donations are always very appreciated. At the moment, we're about 10% community funded. Either way, The Lemmy Club isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
The Lemmy Club will be going down for up to 2 hours @ midnight ET/04:00 UTC Jun 11 to upgrade to Lemmy 0.19.4

Defederation of eviltoast.org
Hey all -
Just a quick announcement that we're currently not federating with eviltoast.org - it seems to be the base of the spam bots we've seen recently. I don't think the site administration teams have anything to do with the spam however they also seem to be absent, and are not doing anything to combat it. Until such time that they are actively cleaning up their spam issue they will remain defederated. I'm pretty lax about our federation, but this has been a persistent issue (See rule 9). I'm sure the spammer will probably find another host at some point though.
Thanks for being a member of TheLemmy.Club
Edit: it looks like thier admins have cleaned it up. Removing for now.

Highlights
Welcome to release v1.99.0
of Immich. This release adds the new logo, fixes many bugs, and improves the application. Some of the highlights include:
- \[WEB] Sort photos and videos to display direction in an album.
- On-disk cache on the mobile app to provide a better viewing experience.
- There is a new endpoint for OpenTelemetry metrics to monitor performance.
- Optimized queries for large libraries.
- Add upload progress and speed indicator.
- XMP sidecar file is now recognized with both
photo.ext.xmp
andphoto.xmp
extensions. - Drag to select - Now press your thumb to drag and select in the selection mode.
- Improve user feedback in the mobile app's backup and album selection screen.
- Various improvements for the library scanning process.
Asset's display direction in the album
We added an option to change the order of the assets in the album so you can view the assets from older to newest and vice versa.
album.view\.order.mp4
Mobile asset caching
Improving cache for remote thumbnails and the images, they now stay on disk so that they can load faster and give a better experience while used offline. You should feel a faster loading experience across the app.
Performance monitoring with OpenTelemetry integration
Immich provides a variety of performance metrics to allow for local monitoring and insights. This integration is primarily in the form of Prometheus metrics. However, exporting traces is also possible due to OpenTelemetry instrumentation. Please visit the documentation to learn how to enable this feature
Note
This opt-in feature allows you to monitor Immich's performance. This data isn't sent anywhere beyond what you've configured.
File size progress and upload speed indicator
We added an indicator to show the file's size that has been uploaded and the upload speed under the progress bar in the backup screen.
Simulator.Screen.Recording.-.iPhone.15.Pro.Max.-.2024-03-14.at.18.08.37.mp4
Drag to select
You can now drag to select in the mobile app when in selection mode; this will help make selecting in bulk easier.
drag\_to\_select.mp4
And lastly, I want to express my gratitude to @immich-app/contributor who make this behemoth of a release happen š

And as always, bugs are fixed, and many other improvements also come with this release.

Well borked some things during the upgrade that required going back to the backup. But we got there eventually. I will have to mess some more with Ansible to bring it in line with my current deployment so future upgrades go a bit more smoothly.
If you were logged in, you'll have to log in again. If you had 2FA set up, you don't anymore and will have to redo it.
We were down for heh, 2.5 hours. Any activity on the Fediverse in that time won't have synced to our instance. However if anyone votes or replies to that comment it will sync. So we shouldn't miss anything worthwhile :P

This instance is funded primarily out of my own pocket with no return whatsoever. The costs aren't too high (~$250/yr) but community donations are always very appreciated. At the moment, we're about 10% community funded. Either way, The Lemmy Club isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

A dozen or two TB of storage for media on the cheap?
Well I'm just about fed up with streaming bullshit. I currently have a home server that's just a raspberry pi4 with a bunch of docker containers and it served my light usage well.
But with transcoding on Jellyfin I'll be needing some more power. And a bunch of storage. So wanting to perhaps build a new little server.
CPU requirements aren't high at all. Need to transcode maybe 2 concurrent 4K streams, A cheap discrete GPU or a CPU with a decent enough iGPU could handle this. Other applications are basically negligible, like Vaultwarden and PiHole, torrent, using as a general file storage server.
I also recently acquired a mini PC which is plenty powerful, but doesn't have any way of adding a bunch of drives. So another option is setting up a pure NAS and just using the mini PC as the server. It's got an i7 10700T and iris 630 iGPU.
I've been using Linux and self hosting basic things for years, but I'm pretty new to this level of hardware and little experience with RAID.
Budget: ~$500ish - storage goal: 12+ TB
