So I didn't get the job that I applied for. But in a weird twist the team leader for the role who interviewed me is leaving the organisation this week. She asked if we could connect on Linkedin as she thought i had a lot to offer and wants to keep me in mind for roles that come up at her new employer. So i guess that is a win.
Edit: I realise my comment makes it seem like I'm happy you didn't get the job, lmfao. That sucks to hear, I am excited for the team leader connecting with you on Linkedin
Networking!! Very nice!!! That's actually better than getting the role (apparently ~80% of the available jobs aren't advertised; the only way to get them is networking). You have done very well!! 💜💜💜
Hmm could it also be that that was probably not a good workplace for you and so she rejected your application but kept you in the loop for future roles?
Possibly. I don't think ultimately the final decision was hers to make but the CEO's as he was on the second round interview with her. I don't think the CEO was too keen on me by the end of the interview but I think if it had been up to the team lead I may have gotten it. Based on some of the reviews of the organisation on Glassdoor, the CEO seems to be quite controlling and a lot of people leave because of him. So i probably dodged a big bullet
Myself and another woman just had a big go at an old racist who was targeting an SE Asian fellow and his family.
So much adrenaline; had to miss the tram bc he got on it lol. The guy walked right up to me, like he was gonna hit me, told him to do it in front of a platform of people. Backed off, kept swearing, stuck my finger up and told him to rotate, makes me ashamed to be Australian.
I thought these interactions were made up or embellished; apparently not.
The family is okay, made sure they got on the tram they needed and had a laugh with another witness.
I used to think the same until something similar happened in my life.
An older Australian man told an Asian student to "go back where you came from". This was during covid.
I lost my shit. I'm a large scary looking middle eastern gentleman. The message got across real fast.
This is one thing I'm not looking forward to with getting back on PT, especially on the 109. It's unbelievable what people think they can say and do in public. The silent stares and being ignored in shops is bad enough
It's the ranting meth heads that piss me off. I'm catching PT with my young kids (I don't drive) teaching them how to use it, and I've got to teach them how to deal with that as well. At least they know I guess 🤷🏻♀️
Oohhh I've been downloading torrents for as long as they've been a thing and I just got my first email from an ISP saying stop it.
"We have received a Copyright Infringement Notification informing us that your IP Address was used to illegally download and distribute copyrighted material.

Which is legit, I totally did that. I guess I better start actually using my VPN because I am absolutely not paying for Paramount+ just for Star Trek with all of the other streaming services I pay for.
If it's mostly newer releases you torrent, look into a debrid service like real debrid. All your ISP can see is that you're downloading from a debrid service, not the torrent itself. Cheap, fast and high quality. I've had great experience with RealDebrid + Stremio + Torrentio. The RD website looks sus as hell but it is a real thing.
(Apologies if you already know all this of course)
Thank you :) I haven't looked into changing my ways for some time so this and now seems like as good of a time as any. I've just been torrenting and using my main PC as a Plex Media Server for my other devices (tablet, Shield TV Pro) locally but this seems neater. I'm running through a setup guide for them now.
I nick stuff ,especially when I have all the subscriptions but the station can't be fucked broadcasting final series or they think $30 to watch one movie is fine
Pineapple Net, which is my building's fibre optic ISP. It used to be Spirit for years but they sold to Pineapple Net during COVID sometime.. annoyingly automatically bumping me up to a more expensive but faster plan.
What do you mean third party? Like Paramount, etc? I assume they or a company they employ put a tracker on that torrent and reported to Pineapple Net.
My partner has a Turkish Angora cat (white and super fluffy) who's going to the vet today because he's been lethargic and super poopy over the weekend. The amount of times we've had to clean poop off him, the floor, ourselves, is wild. We were doing it with two people though so it was okay. Today I'm solo and he just tore my palm to shreds while I was trying to clean his butt for the second time today. Okay, dude, keep your nasty butt, I'm done.
I know 😩 He wanders off completely fine but when I'm trying to help he just hisses and bites and scratches. Hopefully the vet can help him and maybe help us get him cleaned up.
If he’s had some poop issues, perhaps the butt area is a bit irritated or sensitive, so maybe getting it cleaned is a bit painful for poor kitty. And of course there’s the indignity. Hopefully vet can help!
Yeah, poor little guy has a sore butt. The vet shaved it for us which was a huge help. Thankfully he seems to be on the mend, eating and drinking etc. properly.
I think @taleya once recommended putting the cat facing backwards under your arm, then propping up their back legs on a pile of books and then quickly shaving the cat's butt before they wriggle free. Might work for cleaning the cat's butt too.
It's bin night here in my part of Thornbury. Someone has filled my small size red bin to overflowing with filthy stinky nappies - unwrapped. I am wrathful. Suspicion is currently resting on the new people over the road and three houses down as they have two small twin toddlers and a newborn. Their own bin is only half full and not stinky. Not fair to put your horrible stuff in someone else's bin if you aren't willing to fill your own I say. I am considering invoicing them for a bin cleaning service. Grumping to the max.
(Unrelated to below breakfast: i went and bought some new in-ear headsphones, with an aux cord, as mine died, but i forgot my samsung ONLY TAKES USB-C 💀😭)
Edit: i just grabbed a card from the cafe near work, to start accuring towards a free coffee, and the owner asked if I'm new to the area, said yep started new job, and he stamped 5 coffees on the card for me as a welcome despite me buying only one. 💜 he has really lifted my spirits
I was forced to buy a new phone because the 3G network is ending, and obviously I don't want to leave it too late to update.
Of course, having bought a new phone I was forced to buy a new cover, in order to protect said phone. Buying the case I wanted on Amazon was $25, so I was forced to buy it on Temu which has it for just over $6. Which meant I was forced to buy a whole bunch of stickers to get to the $20 minimum spend. It's been a tough day being forced to buy all these things, but there were obviously no other options. None, I tell you, None.
Heathen! I did actually consider that option, although if it's anything like my current phone I'll need a case just to provide grip - it's so glossy it's hard to hold on to.
The big selling features of the case I'm getting are a sliding cover for the cameras (I think we're up to about 28 cameras per phone now) and a stand so I can prop it up in either direction. Plus it will provide essential redness, which is of course also very important.
I’m in trouble… the favourite cat bed is in the wash. And the temporary replacement is not acceptable.
The spinach seedlings are looking pale and leggy. They leaned toward the window for sun and when I flipped the pot around they leaned back in the same direction. Maybe they’re not getting enough light even sitting on the sill. I did put off putting them there as well trying to allow the slower ones time to sprout.
Edit: I was going to pop them outside but it’s apparently going to be 27 degrees on Tuesday and I don’t want to forget they’re out there :/
Alright, I’ve set an alarm to bring them back inside tomorrow night. I hope they don’t get dug up or eaten
ok no seriously fuck today. Jumped up on a chair to grab some more brufen (As I take pretty high doses and also live in a house frequented by small children and occupied by insane felines I keep unopened packets with other meds in a tub on a very high shelf up above my 3D printer) grab the tub, hop back down....AND THE BACK OF THE CHAIR DECIDES TO GO RIGHT UP MY ARSE.
Is it just me, or is it colder than it was at 5 a.m.?
I've actually lit a fire and the fact that I've been itching to try the free wood I scored last week is beside the point.
I'll have a dozen oysters kilpatrick, a t-bone steak (rare), grilled asparagus and mashed potato, served with a mojito please. I'll have a peach cobbler with cream for dessert too.
I checked in with the bot, it said the weekend was so good it just didn't want it to end. Classic Mondayitis. I've told it that I fully sympathise, but unfortunately we can't stop the passage of time by pretending it isn't happening and that the DT must go on.
Went to the new Studley park boat house at the weekend. Place was packed and buzzing. They have done a really nice job with maximising to river location. Food was pretty good. If you drive there be warned you may have to park some distance away if you go during the lunch peak.
I was wondering if it wasn't going to happen, but the house next door is starting to be demolished.
Sight of the week was tradie guy casually walking around the roof demolishing the chimney with a mallet. Safety harness, what's that?
Mallet? I've seen demo jobs where they came in with an excavator and tip truck and knocked the whole lot, levelled the block and carted everything away in under 45 minutes. Brutal.
I think I can call it a day for day 1 back at work. Feeling pretty good about it. Got caught up with people and things, set up some chats and made sure people know I'm here to help if they need me. Even squeezed in a walk and bought a kick ass ceramic Frank Green keep cup with a $25 discount code I got from a friend. 9/10 would Monday again.
You can customise the cups which is rad. I made mine Melbourne Storm themed!
Latest medical certificate runs out this week and I've got to decide whether to start looking for work or get one for another month.
The way I'm feeling I'm leaning towards extending it for another month, especially since I'm still tired from last week, which was physically and emotionally demanding.
What I'm scared of doing is overextending myself like I did last time and setting off another crash, especially since I'm still packing up the house and hope to put it on the market very soon.
I just did a 30 minute low intensity workout. I feel a little light headed and my legs feel like jelly but I'm ok. I'm still alive and I didn't pass out so that's a win. Although little dog tried to lick my ear while I was down on the floor (and he tried to run off with my dumbbells) that wasn't pleasant.
Back at work today and I've finally caught up on my emails and had a chat with a colleague about what's been going on during my leave. It looks like I don't actually have anything to do until at least tomorrow though sooooo.. imma go get a coffee from the cafe.
During the timeline of the First Punic War fought between Rome and Carthage (264 – 241 BC), the Carthaginians were known for their prowess in the naval field, partly due to their maritime experience in trading and overseas colonies that stretched beyond centuries. On the other hand, the Romans were considered relative newcomers to the Mediterranean sphere of influence.
In spite of this, it was the sheer ingenuity of the Roman army engineers that brought victory to the Romans in what might have been the largest naval battle in the history of mankind. We are talking about the Battle of Cape Ecnomus (in 256 BC) – which pitted around 350 Carthaginian ships (with more than 150,000 rowers and marines) against 330 Roman vessels (with around 140,000 rowers and soldiers); all the figures being according to the account of Polybius (in World History).
In a bid to nullify the enemy’s numerical advantage, the Roman army devised a mechanism known as corvus (meaning “crow” or “raven” in Latin) or harpago. This was a sort of boarding bridge that could be raised from a 12-ft high sturdy wooden pillar and then rotated in any required direction. The tip of this bridge had a heavy spike (the “corvus” itself) that clung onto the deck of the enemy ship, thus locking the two ships together.
The Roman soldiers crossed across this makeshift bridge and directly boarded the enemy ship. This naval tactic gave the Romans the upper hand since they were known for their expertise in close-quarter combat, as opposed to the Carthaginians who mainly relied on mercenaries. Unfortunately, the Corvus was seemingly abandoned in the post-255 BC era, perhaps because of its destructive effect even on Roman warships.
In any case, this is how 2nd century BC Greek historian, Polybius, described the boarding maneuvers initiated by the corvus –
Once the ravens were fixed in the planks of the enemy’s deck and grappled the ships together, if they were broadside on, they boarded from all directions but if they charged with the prow, they attacked by passing over the gangway of the raven itself two abreast. The leading pair protected the front by holding up their shields, and those who followed secured the two flanks by resting the rims of their shields on the top of the railing.
Ah, nothing like honey and lemon with warm water to ease the awful sick feeling. What a wonder drink. It took 90 minutes of waiting for the cat to dislodge herself before I finally dashed to the kitchen to make it though.
The biggest advantage of ADHD is that if I wait long enough before rewatching a series, it's like watching a whole new series again. I'm watching Charmed and it's like watching a whole new series again, obviously I remember significant parts, but sometimes I can't place them and I feel the emotions all over again.
Maybe? Lol I know a lot of neurotypical people who rewatch shows over and over and quote from individual episodes. Whereas ADHD can have a huge impact on the memory.
Today was a rest day from exercises but I ended up doing some anyway because I wanted to. Especially after a weekend of donuts and ribs.. I think I needed it! Started sorting out my herbs and spices but haven't finished, as I'm dithering about which ones I'll put in the new storage carousel thingy and which ones I'll put in other jars. The Minipeelers have been missing me today I think, and were eager to help with my laundry and meal related tasks. They're learning fast and growing faster!
This probably won’t mean much to most people but I’ve been inspired to continue with a game called 23 Sentinels: Aegis Rim a sci fi story with a unique storytelling technique from famed Vanillaware, known for their gorgeous artwork and 2d animation and sprites in games.
All this was inspired from a recent announcement of their new game called Unicorn Overlord and it looks absolutely beautiful with how animated and detailed their artwork and animation that was showcased.
I have this Dangerfield pinafore that I love to wear, but for some reason the zipper sucks. It's not that like there isn't elastic because there is, and it's not like the zipper is broken. It's just super happy to unzip itself for some reason and I don't know what to do with it? Like the teeth aren't broken, the zip isn't broken. I'm just so confused lmfao
You can pin a safety pin a little under the zipper pull, so when it tries to tug open the pin holds it shut and prevents it unzipping. You can also sew a hook and eye at the top to do a similar job of holding the edges together and taking any pulling.
I've used the pin thing but the pin I have doesn't work properly. I might try the hook and eye thing though. Need to go to Spotlight anyways to grab some fabric to fix a hole in a shirt I love.
Also I wish a very merry anal prolapse upon all NAS manufacturers who do a firmware change so fucking fundamental we not only need to completely rewrite our docker images, but also the goddamn documentation for basic setup.
Rewatching Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging for first time since I was teen, and I have to say it was an excellent film then and it's an excellent film now. I remember my best friend being upset at the start when the main character complains about her nose because she has the exact same one, and I didn't understand how mortifying it was because I was a boy. I also remember badgering her about the slang because she'd moved from Wales the year before.
I've got to an assignment where I present both sides of an argument, I have two to choose from:
should the date of 26 Jan as Australia Day be changed?
is there room for Indigenous culture in modern Australian society?
I really like both options, as someone originally from NZ where it isn't perfect but our Indigenous culture is held is much more esteem, I like the culture argument but also as someone who is firmly in the move the date camp, I'm also interested in that. which should I choose?
I'd go with the date one, just because it is easier to define the issue, the second one you have to spend a lot more time defining what it is really about (what counts as culture? what is modern Australian society?). The change the date argument is more straightforward, so you don't waste words you can use on the actual arguments just trying to define what the question is.
You do you gave to present a dude and debate it against someone else? Or it’s just an assignment topic?
I think both have merits though the 2nd will delved into an area which could be hard to research for but at the same time maybe it so hard depending on how in-depth it needs to be.
IE in recent times we’ve acknowledged and apologised as a government to the indigenous and we have the welcome to land ceremonies but that’s only scratching the surface really buts a start.
I have to do a video presentation that presents both sides. It has to be 7-10 minutes long. I think I could present a decent explanation of both sides for point 1 in 7-10 minutes whereas I feel point 2 requires depth and I don't know if 10 minutes is enough.
Definitely agree, this is why I'm so torn, I'm so firmly in the affirmative for both that bringing the negative is difficult to even fathom. Topic one probably allows for easier access to negative side, which attracts me to it but then I'm firmly of the opinion that I want to see a lot more Indigenous culture in todays Australia.
My gut feel is that 2. is less controversial. Lots of material around to discuss too, as you could compare how other cultures have fared in this 'multicultural' society and extrapolate to indigenous culture. Also how indigenous culture has already fared - place name changes, inclusion in football teams, bush tucker going mainstream etc.. Lots of things to say about what's succeeded and what's failed.
Option 1, though, will instantly start an argument. A nasty one. Very polarising topic.
All the above is just my opinion, though. It's your choice.
Realising I'll probably be in Melbourne through most of summer - weighing up if I should cough up and get myself an air purifier. I don't need a huge one, I live in a modest 2br apt... Anyone got recommendations for a brand/model that they know works well and is easy to get replacement filters for?
Honestly before I was thinking it's not going to be a crazy bushfire season this far south after so much rain but I'm no longer betting on those thoughts.
I don't think it'll be TOO bad this year in damper parts of Vic but I'd rather not be caught out if it does get bad and shit is sold out. An air purifier might be handy to have regardless. If I end up moving I could sell it or give it to a friend
I have a Philips Series 3000i Air Purifier and live in a 1 bedroom apartment + study. I've never had to get a replacement filter for it though (not yet) but I guess it works fine? Honestly I'm not entirely sure I can tell the difference but it does collect a fair bit of dust and stuff which I clean off the filter, so I guess it's doing its job. It does freak out and go into turbo mode after I apply deodorant.
Thanks!! I was leaning towards a Philips but maybe the 1000i which covers 78m2 and is closer to my budget (I was hoping to stay sub 300 but still doing research about the best price/value ratio)
The 3000i covers up to 135m2, I was thinking it would be overkill for my apt (about 70m2 all up, largest room is 13m2). I guess you would place yours in a central location and it does the whole apt? Mine has a weird layout but I don't mind moving it from room to room if need be.
I presume you're happy with the sound level of yours?
Hey thanks for the rec. Availability of replacement filters in years to come is definitely a concern. Can't seem to find many of the actual Homedics purifier units for sale in AU though...? Did you import yours?
Am leaning now towards the Winix zero 4 ($275; non OEM filters available for ~$55; flat design) over the newer cylindrical Philips 1000i ($299; only OEM filters available at 90-110$. The current 1000i promotion DOES include a spare filter for free, but idk - cylindrical all in one design might make it harder for non OEM manufacturers to make copies down the track, so greater long term cost??)
Had a meh day at work. Had to ask people to come in at least one day to the office just so I don't get shit for not enforcing the 3 day rule. (It's all about perception and some people were coming in 1 day a month and was getting comments from management)
A bit concerned about a friend of mine. We'd normally chat every day but they've been quiet since Saturday so have checked in with them to see if they're OK and no response... Hopefully will hear from them soon.
Day awf so gonna get a bit more of the watering system done.
This thing will hopefully save a shitload of time.
But doing the mafs, 1 hr of run time will deplete the 8000l of water tank by 15% each go which means it has to go on town water which is a bit disappoint.
But also in doing the mafs, if it fails it's just mind boggling how much water there is at full tilt.
It'll be 250m-ish of dripper 0.3 spacing 2L emitters 600 kPa at mains. No rain sensor. 3 zones so swimming in pressure but my concern is pumps running dry on the tanks.
edit: I should add the concept of this is life support and it's probably not going to be a complete solution. It's the p's place, big garden, they're not interested in new and fangdangled so I'm winging this a bit (for better or worse).
Yeah Melbcat isn’t eating her biscuits. She’s actually reminding me when it’s time for wet meals and getting fussed if they’re late (not usual), wanting much larger portions, asking for extra meals, and the fresh biscuits are untouched. She’s going back to the vet soon to check her teeth.
I thought it was her tummy but maybe not. I hope this brand’s factory hasn’t started making the kibbles rock hard to the point of being impossible to eat. So many issues with that is why we switched from the last one and there’s not many she can tolerate.
I’ve tried it before but she hates that. And unfortunately moistening them means bacteria on the surface start multiplying so it’s not safe to leave the soaked food out for long
Has anyone got any dog sitter/boarding kennel recommendations or horror stories they wanna share?
I wanna go with my partner to their home country for a max of 2 weeks next early year, but we have a dog and no friends/family who would be able to take him or stay at our house with him.
I'm hesitant because he's a tiny bit screwed up due to a couple occasions where off-leash dogs attacked him, but sometimes he's really good with other dogs - it just depends. He absolutely loves people though.... Unfortunately I'll probably end up just not going for the trip but we'll see
I used Aussie Housesitters once and it worked out really well. Our dog at the time was elderly and a bit arthritic and wouldn’t have coped well in a kennel, was better for him to have the comfort of his own home. Look for sitters with good reviews, and you can ask a potential house sitter for a video call before hand to see if you click.
I think if I was to do again I’d offer the house sitter a payment or go through a paid service, because I was so grateful that our dog was well looked after.
I didn't actually realise Aussie Housesitters wasn't necessarily a paid service, that's interesting (though like I said in another comment reply, I genuinely don't mind paying any amount as long as I'm sure the dog is being taken care of properly). I would much rather have someone come to our home and stay with him, and we also have cats but they're much easier to sort care out for (they just want a full food bowl tbh). I'll take another look through the site cheers for the suggestion
I just took a look through Pawshake, i had only heard of Mad Paws but I suppose there's alot of similarities and overlap. My main concern with these apps are whether people will even wanna walk the little shit haha he can be a little bit of a pain (absolutely working on it but its taking time)
And since he's an active dog he'd definitely need to be walked at some point over the one-two week period haha
I might give Granite Hill another look at. This is the one my grandma used exclusively for her pets, but those pets and granny herself are long gone so I wasn't sure how it is these days. I'll take a look at the Hallam one too. I don't mind pricing or anything, I just wanna come home to a happy and healthy dog 😬
Dammit, I think I might've gotten what Bacon has. Headachey, throat sore, feel weak and tired. Must be the change in weather? Time to chug more water and make sure I've got plenty to eat...
