DTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!! After half a year the car search has ended, I have finally replaced my 4x4 that shit itself during covid. Ya boy is about to make up for years worth of missed camping and road-tripping.
Just went down a travelator behind a man who had jammed the trolley hard against the side of the travelator side, and it was making this horrid scraping noise as it was going , scraping a dent/scratch into the side of escalator. Man either totally unaware or could not give a fuck. I was thinking how sad it is how much the public just trash stuff and how much it must cost to be constantly fixing things, no wonder everything is expensive. This is why we canāt have nice things.
Allergies are calming down a bit today, the wind and rain has got rid of some of the pollen particles. This has been my worst year for rosacea for 15 years. Big hugs to everyone who is having difficulties with allergies and inflammation.
Eating Tiny teddies for the first time since I was a kid. There is something very moreish about them. Itās a bit dangerous, the whole box might get mindlessly consumed if Iām not careful!
I made baby cheesecakes last night. Very easy to do.
baby cheesecakes
I used a block of philly cheese (Manhatten from aldi) at room temperature. Added a half a jar of lemon curd. A tiny bit of milk and a tablespoon of icing sugar. Gave it a stir until all combined. Put a butter nut biscuit in the muffin patty pan and top it with my mixture. Put them in the fridge to set.
You can make them with your choice of jam and biscuits.
was out for a walk early this morning. after an hour, even with brisk walking, came home freezing cold, windblown and ever so slightly damp, wondering what I had been thinking.
am now reaping the benefits by working in trackies, my slippers, with a cuppa, feeling smug as my wife complains about having to leave the house while I have done my exercise and errands for the day and can remain toasty warm and comfy inside.
same here. Is it schadenfreude? why yes, but that makes it no less delicious. Enjoy your trudge in the rain sir, me and my 11k steps shall be playing Totk
That was a cold freaking walk back to the accom. 10C feels like 3, hectic winds, spattering rain - and now lots of wooshing and swooshing while I'm trying to settle down in bed. Pros and cons to getting accom with palms right out the window.
Absolutely fabulous day otherwise, was a bit nervous/overwhelmed at first but met heaps of good folks today. Weather aside, only downside was I think I had too much dairy in the dessert and got straight up liquid shits (scrambled to the toilet just in time). Or maybe it was the wine. I don't know but my gut definitely feels unsettled, still. I need a substantial breakfast tomorrow to make up for it. Ninight.
Horrible weather out there, it's actually getting colder. I stopped at Bunnings on the way home from work, they were closing off the garden entrance and had lost a few plants in the wind already. The staff were in remarkably good spirits considering how miserable it is outside today.
Gelato might be healthier than icecream? They might have coffee. Edit: Or coffee frozen yogurt.
And allowing the occasional scoop might mean less craving
Edit: Or you can make an iced coffee at home by dissolving sugar or Splenda with instant coffee in a little hot water (no need for special syrup) and adding your preferred milk
Don't tell Las Vegas but I'm pretty casino'd out. I'm not exactly sure who I am now but I've had zero urge to drink. Even when offered free booze I've been getting lemonade/soda or water.
Anyway it's 7:15pm and I've decided to lock myself in my room with some gummies, lemonade and a cup of donut balls while I watch Ahsoka.
Morning dog walk has been cancelled because of excessive wind. Possibly the afternoon dog walk will be cancelled for the same reason. Definitely not nice out there today.
Hmmmm got the job (VPS) but it was never explained that it was a fixed term contract until I just got the offer letter, I was under the impression the whole time it was a full time contract, so it ends after a year and if they don't have the budget I'm out of a job potentially? Exactly the sort of thing I wanted to avoid and why I was willing to take a paycut otherwise why not just work as a contractor?
Is it a "contract" or "permanent fixed term"? The latter gives you leave entitlements and other benefits (that I can't currently think of) of a permanent employee
Whats on for the weekend everyone?
Tonight im heading to a party at Max Watts run by the Rainbow Serpent crew, should be massive!!
Tomorrow night will be moving my current mead to secondary to age on oak!! Sunday i have an axe throwing marathon, its only 2 weeks till the Asia Pacific Champs and Sunday will have 10 or more of the current top 20 in Australia throwing so will be a really good warm up :)
I will be competing against the big guns yes, im currently ranked 6th in Australia in the ruleset the marathon is running in. There is essentially two rules sets, standard and premier, premier requires a much higher level of accuracy but anyone can compete in either rule set. The marathons are usually capped at 24 people, so there will be a pretty big range of skills.
The Asia Pacific Champs in 2 weeks is an invite only finals under the premier rule set, there were qualifiers around Australia early this year, the top 2 from each venue went straight into finals and then the rest of the spots went to the people with the highest averages in qualifying :)
It has not been a good week. The weekend will be spent recovering from the week.
(Kid) Footy and Hockey seasons are finally over. This is the first weekend of not needing to up at 7am for various sports. I need to get my sleep cycle under control. Spent a day and a half sick/sleeping and I'm still not quite back to normal. My watch says I slept from 3am to 7am, but it isn't counting the bit where I crashed at 8pm and slept to nearly midnight.
Also, a friend/workmate passed away this week. We're gathering this evening for drinks and memories/tears. He was roughly my age, with kids a little over my kids' ages. This feels too close to home, like that could have been me but for a roll of fate's dice. It could be my kids facing life without their dad. Cancer sucks.
Belated, but sorry to hear about your mate. Reading that gave me chills, just imagining it happening to me or someone my siblings' ages, though I have no children. That's particularly rough when it's someone you worked with. Hope you've got some good strategies for handling the grief at work.
We went through a series of tracing because we found out there's actually a few things happening at once, and we seem to have traced it to the that little black box thing that sits on the outside of the house where the main street wires come in
Apparently we can't call the electricity distributor or a sparky because we need to go through an after hours thing at our organization. And to make matters even better, they don't answer their DAMN phone. Apparently this isn't an immediate danger, according to the lead tenant. That may be true, circuit breakers are a magical thing, but that doesn't really do much to make me feel like I'm a little less likely to die in my sleep
I did try and make that argument, but I got a lecture on how it this was a private rental and I went over my landlords head when something was going awry it could lead to being evicted or similar
so I've figured out car wise what Im going to do. I've all but sold my car to pay for the mrs's car's loan. then im gonna get her car limping, sell it off and buy something brand new with a warranty. Its gonna cost a fortune, but given I stand to lose close to 20k on her car, and I'm having to sell mine to offset that I dont see we have a lot of other options. What do I do if I buy second hand and it blows up again?
But I hear back from the diagnostics (mid next week) I dont know how much its going to cost to fix (If even possible). So I dont know the financial damage so I cant really order anything. Stressful. I just want this done and buried so I can move on.
fucking christ. trying to access work sever via vpn on a win10 laptop, vaguely mutter to myself "ugh you running sl-o-o-o-w is that why you're reporting as offline, baby?"
Windows fucking suggestion pops up with "Slow machine? check this" to which I say the only true and proper response of
#YOU FUCKING WHAT MY SON
and prompt destruction of all microphone permissions.
This is a machine that has been gutted of bloatware and cortana, btw. Never. Trust. the cunce.
Going for a run today was a bad idea. I thought my calf had fully healed, but 2km in and it started seizing up again. Probably put me back a few days. Real shame too, as my pace was probably my best yet, and I didn't even feel tired, but will just have to wait and see next time.
Guess I'll just stick to swimming until after my work conference.
I dont feel too bad about it, solar is JUST generating enough to cover the heater so I may as well. But I suspect thats all the solar is gonna be good for today.
It's very wimdy. š² The front door flew open unbeknownst to me, ( the lock mustn't have been snibbed ) so when I opened the back door a vacuum literally sucked a heavy vase off the window ledge which then smashed on the floor.
I've got that weird air thing at my place too. When you open the front door another door in the middle of the house slams shut. When I first moved there it used to freak me outš»
Yay, so just as I thought today was going to be a chill enough day, and that all my issues were sorted, one of my power boards is making an electric crackling sound, and a lamp plugged into a different one from a different power point won't work properly and just keeps flickering
Edit: oh and know my little heater I have next to my bed smells like burning
Holy shit I just saw what happened on Bourke. I regularly take the 86 / 96 and I use that specific stop a lot to get to work. So scary! Will keep the affected in my thoughts
i'm sorry, but i don't care for finals talk. especially in an open plan office situation...can you take it to the break room please? i mean, i'm 20m away and can clearly understand everything you're saying
If I had a nickel every time my data was compromised in the past year. Iād have three nickels, which isnāt a lot but itās weird that itās happened three time.
(Optus in September of last year, AHM in roughly November of last year and now Dymocks) (Also I posted this in Thursday's DT not realising it's Thursday and I'm like "it's been five hours, why have I only gotten one like?" idiot... hahaha)
NtccJnr is home sick. Well, not very sick but not good enough for school. Heater has been cranked up and fresh warm popcornn is nownwarming our bellies.
Mr Peeler heard today that one of his cousins lost her short battle with MND today. It was only just over a couple of years ago she was fine, came over to our place for lunch. Here's hoping we can find a cure soon. I'm a bit of a stunned mullet, but Mr Peeler will be very upset as he was close to his cousins, having no siblings.
Fucking joy, opened the wardrobe and somehow managed to hit my head and left hand with the door. Got a lovely looking egg on my forehead now.
I swear to God, if I start getting concussion symptoms (or worse), I am going to be very annoyed. Assignment is due Sunday and I'm still 600 or so words out from completion, so I literally do not have time for this bullshit.
Police have arrested the driver of a vehicle that struck several pedestrians before colliding with two other vehicles near the corner of Bourke and Russell streets in Melbourneās CBD this evening
I just got back from the CBD, the incident would have occurred sometime between 6-7pm-ish. I didnāt see it becuase I was having dinner near the GPO, but walked up Bourke St about an hour ago. Lots of police, fire, ambulance, sirens and police tape.
Lemmy is being a butt. It keeps logging me out and saying my credentials are wrong (theyāre not) but letting me back when I close and re-enter. Only to do it again on navigating to reply to a comment.
The four motorcycle round trips today was unpleasant, could barely stay upright and it was freezing. Thankfully they were only 5km round trips on 40kmh roads.
One more tonight. Hopefully wind is calm by tonight, am only going to book a car for the trip if it is raining or is forecast to rain.
Lol. I got a new phone case for the new phone, and almost snapped my phone in half trying to get it in. Apparently the case needs to be dismantled to for because it's got 3 layers lol
I've discovered a new hobby. When there's a crowd gathering around a street performer or in today's case, a chase the queen card hustler, brush by the back of people just enough that they feel you touch them but not hard enough for a bump. Just keep walking. They'll check their pockets, it's hilarious.
Also it's a sunny 36 degrees here. Flying home on Monday night (your Tuesday) and from what I'm reading it's going to be a bit of a change in weather. I'm actually going to miss this summery weather. Hopefully ours rolls around quickly.
Exercises completed except for one of the weird plank ones which started to hurt my neck and back so I abandoned it immediately. I guess it was all that shelf cleaning yesterday with myself at weird angles to get to hard to reach places.
I'm catching up to 2016 with The Witcher 3. Finally got it downloaded, then spent as much time updating keybindings on the game pad and mouse as I did playing. š¤£ I'm still working on figuring out the whole combat system and what button does what, and have died three times so far due to flailing ineffectually while maddly pressing the wrong buttons.
Putting in a little leave so I can spend a week at the end of the month enjoying my new (to me) car! Weather permitting, I might jump the border and hang around Port Mac, maybe even dig my wetsuit out and do some snorkelling at Ewens Ponds.
It's so silly, but finally having a 4x4 back has lifted my spirits insanely, I feel like a dog in front of his fully stacked toy box.
