Just went to LinkedIn just to see bottom of the barrel bootlickers defending him.
” He’s autistic”, ” that picture is taken out of context”, ” it’s a Roman salute”, ” look at these out of context pictures of other politicians making the gesture”, ” how can he be a Nazi if he supports Israel?”
No he did a full on deliberate Nazi salute at a far right event.
there is no proof in roman writing or painting of this salute, there is no doubt about Musolinis fascist movement using it in 1919 and later the german nazis adopting it
There is a painting from the 1700s that depicts Romans using the salute. So the myth that this salute has Roman origin predates the Italian fascists.
The Bellamy salute in the United States dates to 1896. It too predates the Italian fascists, and it seems to draw on the same Roman-origin urban legend.
I'm autistic, I've never done this gesture. Everyone's different, of course, but I've never seen anyone at all do this by accident. I've seen the defence that it's a "from my heart to yours" gesture, but if that was true, it would be palm up. Palm up is the giving gesture. Palm down is a saluting gesture.
Yeah, excusing it by saying he's autistic is ableist by itself. We're not incapable of understanding dog whistles or concepts, you know?
Especially when people in the same breath call Elon a genius. You can't have it both ways. Either he's clueless and shouldn't be in a position of power, or he's actually a nazi.. and shouldn't be in a position of power
I’m genuinely curious: who the fuck defends Elon and Nazis on LinkedIn? Are we so far divided as a country that it’s ok to associate employment with a penchant for Nazism?
How fucking scary is it that the richest person in the world is a fucking nazi piece of shit and now one of our supreme leaders? If you ask the people around me, "meh."
Honestly none of them strike me as true adherents. They just go whichever direction looks like it will give them more power or money. If there is a next administration or some BLM like cause comes back in vogue you'll see them out there preaching to that choir as if they had always supported that cause.
While I agree most of them do whatever they believe will result in more money and power, BLM was a leftist cause so the only time they would support it (or anything inherently leftist) is if their propaganda magically started to fail and their base rejected them over their stance.
I'm an outsider looking in, but isn't that still a problem? The unchecked capitalism which has now created an oligarchy in the US with the media and government being controlled by the richest of the rich? They're so sure no one can do anything about it any more that they manipulate overtly and don't even try to hide what they're doing.
Seeing what's happening in the US is very worrying.
I was talking about this with my friend and she was like, "I heard it's just a Roman Salute." Be ready to be surprised at how many people will defend this crap.
So I think this is a fascinating odd corner of history.
The "Roman" salute is definitely not Roman, and it's not of fascist invention either. It's an urban legend among the classical studies people: a made-up non-fact that circulated around the fringes of classical scholarship for a couple hundred years.
“Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.”
Billions of people, including those in high positions and with cameras on them all the time wake up every day, go about their business and then go to bed in the evening without even once doing a nazi salute by accident throughout their day. It's not that hard actually. I'm on a pretty great streak since my birth as well and it's really easy.
I saw a nazi just as clearly as you saw a nazi. And no, we did not just see a nazi salute, we saw a complete nazi piece of shit. There's no more to this story, nothing here is up for debate.
What Elon did was a nazi salute, and Elon is a nazi.
Back in the early days of Trump 1.0, I was accused of accidentally making a nazi salute. I raised a pint glass in cheers with no open palm (a drinking glass was in my hand). This wasn't a nazi salute, but people were so keyed up to overreact and attack their friends and coworkers that it didn't matter.
People are not taking Elon's salute seriously because our society has lost its ability to take such accusations seriously. People remember the overreaction and baseless accusations being flung between people who should have had solidarity in Trump 1.0, and that undermines trust in similar claims today. This jadedness gives cover for the actual mask-off nazism in Trump 2.0.
People are so used to finding out that an accused nazi salute from the clickbait article was just someone trying to say cheers or making an awkward hand gesture that it takes extra evidence now to convince them that the AfD-supporting billionaire that just bought an election actually did a full nazi salute starting from the chest with no other justification (and then repeated it).
Someone might, but sure as fuck not twice in a row.
I mean I did once accidentally do one because i was just trying to wave to people sitting on the ground and automatically adjusted my hand angle to be flat towards them and did not realize what I just did until they pointed it out. "Slightly" different context though.
Yeah, I wouldn't rule out mistakenly doing the salute. But you don't mistakenly do it twice and then not apologize for doing people considered to be a nazi salute. Even if you do it once and you don't apologize after being called out you're a nazi. It's such a taboo thing that you'd be apologetic or at the very least remorseful or ashamed. Musk is none of those things.
And to anyone defending Musk, if he pulled out his dick and swung it around on stage and then doesn't show any remorse for showing his dick, would you think it was accidental?
In any case to me Elon's gesture looks very much intentional(either because he wanted to stir the pot or he actually means it), and even if there is doubt, he is not the kind of man that deserves benefit of the doubt.
Well, you can say that, but of course people do. It's not like it's a completely bizarre movement of the arm. It happens now and then and people are demonized because of it. I really don't mean to defend Elon Musk, because I really wouldn't mind him being guillotined, but to claim that everyone that's been accused of doing a nazi salute, has intentionally done a nazi salute, is rather bizarre. We really don't need this, in order to hate on Musk, he's got all the hateability checks. There are plenty reasons that are far beyond any debate that would make him one of the most hated people on earth, and he deserves all of that. But the 'see, it's a nazi, here's the proof <shows salute clip>' won't convince anyone that's not already on board on hating him. The argument that it's immoral to have over 400 billion, and that if he was a reasonable person he would give some shares to his employees, or lower prices, or distribute his money in power in whatever way possible because only a power hungry narcisistic maniac would hoard all this power, or whatever, is, I think, far more convincing than focussing on this awkward hand gesture.
Completely agree. High five!!! Oh shit. Shit shit shit I forgot
How tall I am.
Just a joke. Not defending just a joke. That little weasel doesn't even have the balls to be an actual Nazi. Nazis are bad but He's pretending to be a Nazi and denying it. That's... Somehow... Worse. "Say what you want about the tenets of Nazis, atleast it's an ethos"
Framing being a Nazi as having a defining rubric of out and proud suggests a false spectrum linking being brave and cowardly to a range between Nazi and Not Nazi. It's more of a boolean function. A Nazi coward hiding in linen cupboard and an audacious Nazi in the streets willing to take a punch are still both just Nazis.
The Nazis had great fashion sense as well. I mean, they murdered millions and all, but looked fantastic doing it.
This new crop has the fashion sense of a neckbeard living in a college dorm.
If you're going to trample the rights of my loved ones and myself, at least have the decency to wear some spiffy shiny leather boots and accessorize with some skull jewelry.
The distraction is the people saying things like "it was just an awkward gesture", "it's just a Roman salute", "it's no big deal", "why are we still talking about this", etc.
It is absolutely not a distraction to acknowledge and bring attention to the fact that the most powerful nation on the planet is now being run by a fascist Nazi oligarch.
This is a big deal. The executive orders are also big deal, but those don't diminish this one. If you don't think there are enough posts about the executive orders, you're free to create them.
I don't disagree, but I do think that the deliberate part is to get everybody talking about Elon while Trump goes through and destroys America unchecked.
They know we've got the attention span of goldfish, and they know we're much more apt to focus on a controversial person doing naughty things.
These people literally control the narrative. Everything is deliberate and malicious.
Sure. But is it the same level of bad if the was trolling vs if he was actually a Nazi.
I would argue both are bad, but one is def worse.
I wholeheartedly believe that you are completely wacko if you think both are equal.
Who cares if he did it to troll or is actually a Nazi? Either way he's a rich person with immense power signalling that he might be, and that's just as bad. Emboldening Nazis as a troll gives them cover to "joke" about it as well.
Also, he was in Germany recently defending Nazis, so he's definitely a Nazi.
He should take a big fat shit on the american flag, set it on fire. Would also be pretty based and trollpilled. Maybe next he should say "lmao get rekt" to all school shooting victims. That would also be really trolly pro gamer move I want a public figure who is also now in politics to make.
Very based.
Are you implying that I'm saying what he did is based?
If so - you are very wrong.
I'm just trying to say that while 2 things can be BAD - one can still be worse.
Is that so hard to comprehend?
