The once and possibly future U.S. president blames the country for his political woes.
Donald Trump doesn’t easily forgive or forget.
As Trump’s Republican allies in the United States Congress block military aid that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Kyiv desperately needs to avoid defeat in its war with invading Russian forces, it’s clear the former U.S. president’s ill will toward Ukraine has deep roots.
It was, after all, a phone call with Zelenskyy that led to Trump’s first impeachment in December 2019, after he was accused of seeking to influence the 2020 election by leaning on the Ukrainian leader to investigate current President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
He hates Ukraine because his boss manipulated him into hating Ukraine. That’s what happens when you put egomaniacal, mentally defective degenerates - i.e., 99.99999% of the republican party - in charge of anything. They’re fucking tools.
Unfortunately, this knuckle-dragger is not capable of admitting, perhaps even understanding, that he brought all of this on himself. Everything bad that happens to him is someone else's fault. Everything good that happens was his idea.
Yes, these are the textbook symptoms of a textbook narcissist. Incapable of empathy. Basically an unfillable hole that will pull in and destroy anyone around them.
Can't blame him for thinking there's no consequences for doing crimes because he's been getting away with that for 70 years with very little consequence. It's really an indictment of the justice system that he (and thousands of guys like him) have been getting away with shit for so long.
To be fair to Cartman, he's been shown to have the capacity to grow into a decent person under the right circumstances. Trump on the other hand will almost certainly always be Trump no matter the timeline
More specifically: he is furious with Zelensky and Ukraine for not letting him use them as a bargaining chip. Trump cannot fucking fathom how someone he sees as less powerful than himself can defy him on anything.
That's a very long-winded way of saying Trump is in Russia's pocket and didn't like Biden's interference in Russian-driven corruption in Ukraine ahead of their invasion.

“It was impossible to prove the authenticity of the signature next to Manafort’s name in the ledger,” said Yuriy Lutsenko, a former prosecutor general who for a time supported Trump’s efforts to open a corruption investigation into Hunter Biden.
Trump’s July 2019 phone call with Zelenskyy would play a central role in one of the most embarrassing episodes in his political career: his first impeachment, which stemmed from his effort to pressure Ukraine’s president to open an investigation into Biden.
The catalyst was a video in which then-Vice President Joe Biden described how in 2016 he had threatened to withhold funds from Ukraine’s then-President Petro Poroshenko if Kyiv didn’t fire a prosecutor.
While Biden did seek Shokin’s removal, it was as part of a coordinated effort with the U.S. State Department and the European Union over concerns the prosecutor was blocking corruption investigations in the country.
“I don’t believe anybody who represents the party of Ronald Reagan will abandon Ukraine,” Andriy Yermak, the head of Zelenskyy’s office, told POLITICO earlier this month.

So, saying he will end a war in Ukraine means he hates it?
For millions of Ukrainians including my family and friends who failed to escape Ukraine, this is the only chance to remain alive.
Only in the same way that saying he will end a hostage negotiation means he hates hostages. The context of how he will do it matters. Shooting the hostage does technically end the negotiation, and that's the equivalent to what he is suggesting. He would just have Ukraine surrender or at least cede territory which would only appease Russia for so long. We know this from history. Without due consequence, this is just rewarding Russia for their bad behavior. But trump is incapable of understanding behavioral consequences because he's never not been rewarded for being a selfish asshole.

The only hostage in this situation is Ukrainian population, that is slowly getting butchered.
So in your analogy, he is the only one negotiating the release of hostages, while everybody else is busy killing them.
cede territory
Lots if not most of people would prefer to be alive on ceded territory than dead on whatever territory. You are suggesting to kill millions of innocent people without giving them a meaningful choice.
selfish asshole
Do you think millions of people who will get to live due to his actions are going to call him selfish? I wouldn't.
If what you mean instead is that his actions wouldn't benefit USA in its geopolitical game with Russia by the cost of lives of other people - you can just say that.
There was a highly upvoted post here on lemmy with "saving lives is hot" as the title, what happened to that? Or does it work only when it is about Americans, and Ukrainians can be massacred?
