Looks like reddit went down.
Looks like reddit went down.
Are the reddit admins incompetent or are they also joining the protest? Place your bets here!
EDIT: Looks like they're back.
They couldn't handle the lack of traffic.

Shutting the site down is one way to avoid the protests. I guess...
17 0 ReplyYep it's broken for me too !
13 0 ReplyI honestly wonder if it's an attempt to hide all the privated subs and the messages they have on their private page. Now instead of seeing what's going on its just "oh guess reddit down"
12 0 ReplyIf there is no Reddit, there is no statistic on how severe the user drop is due to the subs that went private. That’s probably better for the IPO.
6 0 ReplyIt could be an obfuscation for the drop in overall traffic for sure, but that's pretty transparent if they try that sort of thing.
4 0 ReplyHonestly seems pretty likely, it's got to be pretty bad press for them with so many subs going private.

LOL the irony! Again!3 0 Reply
I think we're witnessing a murder
10 0 Replyyou would think with the blackouts they would have more resources available.
9 0 ReplyWonder if a dedicated protestor may be putting in some extra effort and bogging the site down with crap requests
8 0 ReplyYeah I feel like it doesn't make sense for Reddit to deliberately take down its own site while people are protesting. My bet it's a dedicated pissed off person took down the site.
Edit: Kbin seems to be down too which is interesting.

"You can't take your subreddit down if the whole site is down! Hah!"
7 0 ReplyYes me too. I thought it was just my Apollo app.
7 0 ReplyMe too I thought it had gone down early or something. Using mLem rn for this and it’s very similar to Apollo!
5 0 ReplySame, excited for the full features to arrive on it. Been looking at the road map on their github and it should be a great app once everything gets built.

Oddly enough, Apollo seems to be working for me…

And I thought it was my shitty reception at work! Wonder how long it’s going to stay down
6 0 ReplySo, Reddit is basically participating, in the black-out. Nice.
5 0 ReplyFor me it doesn’t work too. Neither via Apollo nor via website. Haha.
They want to avoid having statistics how far it went down after the blackout. For the IPO, I bet.
5 0 ReplyI really don’t think they’re that smart honestly. Nonetheless it is hella suspicious…
4 0 ReplyYes, this is really suspicious.

I just realised.. Lemmy can't really go down.
4 0 ReplyThey have to be hiding the blackout while they do their best to reassign mods and open subs back up
3 0 ReplyProbably doing “maintenance” to obfuscate the fact that almost all of their major subs are dark. We know the truth.
3 0 ReplyYet RIF is up and running smoothly.
3 0 ReplyRight? LMAO! APIs are working... Imagine that.

Lack of traffic could never cause this and also hard to believe it's coincidental.
2 0 ReplyHahaha, YES! Burn it to the ground!
1 0 ReplyJust a band of bozos
1 0 ReplyWhat a shame.
1 0 ReplyI'm betting they hit some edge case caused by a particular subreddit going private, or a group of subs going private. I'm sure someone's got a subreddit hard-coded in for health checks or something similar.
1 0 ReplyThis is how we win.gif
Lol
1 0 ReplyHere is the status page. It briefly loaded for me on Sync, then crashed again. DDoS attack maybe?
1 0 Replyhttps://www.redditstatus.com/ This page for status too.
1 0 ReplyYou would need one hell of a botnet to DDOS a site as large as reddit while half its normal users are essentially striking

https://old.reddit.com/ is ok (for me)
1 0 ReplyReddit did go down due to the blackout - their roles database could not handle the requests to private threads. If its a private thread, they need to check if the request is from a person who has the authority (moderator etc) to see them lol
0 0 ReplyAh of course – how could they prepare when they had NO warning that hundreds of subs would be going private today?!
