I have weirdly small (size 3) feet for my height (6'1")
Due to a pituitary issue when I was younger I have maybe a bizarre world record of the smallest feet and hands on a fully grown man. My feet and hands are normal looking but very small. They were tiny as a baby and just never grew that big. Thought you all would find it interesting - I know it makes for good chat at parties!
Read through the comments because I just assumed this was some sizing scale I wasn't familiar with, but nope. US size 3! That's wild. I'm 6'3, size 13 wide. I never really got to wear kids shoes, so I was always jealous of the other kids who had wheelies and stuff.
Dude, for me, get a pair of wheelies. Live my dream for a day, alright?
Also, you mention your hands are also small. Does that cause any issues for you? Youve answered a million questions about your feet, but I'm curious if your smaller hands cause you pain when carrying things, do they make it harder to type? Any advantages? Are Pringles cans much more enjoyable for you?
Thanks for the thoughtful comment. I'll definitely wear some wheelies for you bro. Have to admit I'm pretty jealous of your size 13 wides...I wish I could get a decent pair of adult running shoes like you could I'm sure. So with my hands I've found playing some instruments quite difficult - especially guitar where I've struggled to play some chords and needed to get a 3/4 size guitar. Hand shakes are also awkward - both men's and women's hands can kind of dwarf my own. But yes, I guess the benefit is that my hands are much more nimble - I can easily reach things under the fridge and am pretty handy despite my handlets.
Have you considered shopping women's running shoes? There are many gender neutral color schemes among various brands (Brooks, Nike) that are available in a women's size 5.
The other advantage that you may not have noticed, is that your sense of balance is rock solid on anything other than your feet. I'm 6'3", and wear a size 8.5 US. I haven't fallen in decades because I mostly run around on my E-bike, and I can ride that thing, or my normal 10 speed, with no hands just fine.
So my foot is 21 cm or 8.25" from heel to the tip of my toes. I don't think his foot could be 4.33 times as long as that! I wonder what others' foot lengths are?
That's not how that unit works. American shoe sizes are based on the size of a barleycorn! It's not weird and confusing or a pointless, arbitrary tradition that should have been replaced years ago or anything!
Do your smaller-than-average feet have any appreciable effect on your mobility? If not, I have to wonder why we need these clown-ass feet at all. Waste of meat and leather.
No not significantly. Obviously I've always secretly wondered this as well. I could not imagine walking around in size 7s...let alone size 10s or size 13s! That just seems like so much foot to me. I feel like I'd be stubbing my toes all over the place and they'd be so heavy as well. Saying this, I know that no one could possibly understand this as I'm the odd one out here...but yeah, to me everyone has absolutely (too?) massive feet.
Footing is important for melee combat. All the small-foots got killed off in the middle ages because it's hard to defend yourself when you fall down a lot.
You want some of mine? I’m a size 12 and it’s hard to find shoes in 12. Most places carry a smaller selection, so I can usually find shoes, just not shoes I want.
I’m always yelling out “who are these men with tiny feet!?” In frustration while shopping. I’m 5,11” but wear size 12. The worst part is I didn’t realize I was a comfortable 12 until well into adulthood. I used to buy 11 and thought they were supposed to be snug, my feet hurt a lot. I bought a pair of 12 high top adidas and my feet feel so much better
Sometimes. I can walk and run fine because my calves and foot muscles I think have grown bigger to compensate. But still trip all the time. Windy days are not my friend.
My calf muscles and foot muscles have grown larger I think to compensate and keep me relatively balanced, but I'm still a klutz and trip all the time. Can easily lose my footing if I'm shoved in a crowd for example. But yeah for the most part can walk and run fine.
Mostly online. Women's sizes are all too big so can only wear kid's sizes. The trick is finding something without Velcro and superheroes all over it (though I have a cool pair of Optimus Prime sandals just because I can). Converse and Vans are reliable.
Running shoes and dress shoes are particularly frustrating though. Sneakers in a size 3 are not designed for the wear and tear a 6'1" man is going to put them through so I'm buying a new pair every few months. Dress shoes as well are hard to find in designs that don't look like clunky Communion shoes.
velcro is super good tho. should be on more adult size shoes. velcro doesn't come loose by itself (then dipping into dirt), doesn't get caught on things or in machines and doesn't rip in the worst possible moment when you're in a hurry. it's just a bit harder to clean.
One of the few times I've seen someone with a smaller shoe size than myself, having a woman's 5.5 or there abouts. But it's fine for the rest of me. Good luck! I hope they continue to uh. Be feet? Yep!
I noticed his shoes seemed smaller than I expected, so I looked it up: Rafael Nadal has relatively small shoes (size 10 for 6'1"), and he is widely acknowledged as the greatest clay court player of all time. Your time will come, friend!
Have you ever watched Andy Richter Controls the Universe? One of the episodes has a whole B plot about a main character having surprisingly small feet.
Yes sometimes random strangers will comment on it which is awkward. It's quite noticeable. In high school I used to try to wear much bigger shoes like size 7 (the biggest I could wear without them falling off me) to make it less noticeable but it hurt like hell lugging those around all day so I stopped. It's annoying but I'm used to it I guess.
I appreciate you sharing. It's a huge weight to have to carry throughout the years. I imagine childhood was rough which breaks my heart. People can be cruel and that leaves scars. I really hope you have some people in your life who see you for you without treating you the way so many have in the past. People you feel safe and comfortable around.
Does having such small feet for an adult cause issues with foot pain? Since you need to buy children's shoes, do they properly support your feet and your adult weight? Are there any unexpected advantages to having such compact feet? (I occasionally have to traverse stairs sideways because of my feet.)
My feet can ache a bit after a long day or a run but I don't think significantly worse than normal footed people. I do have orthotics that I use for extra support. I guess one advantage is that I really do not stub my toes ever...and shoes are much cheaper for me in kid's sizes. And I can wear light up shoes. Plus I can run pretty fast - I guess my feet are much lighter than most.
I've always had long feet so I never even got long to wear kids shoes (and light up shoes weren't even around yet during the short time I did lol) and was so jealous of a friend of mine who had tiny feet and could wear all the cute and sparkly and light up shoes she wanted long in to adulthood.
If it was me, I'd absolutely be buying all the fun shoes I could afford. 😂
I was born clubfooted and mine are smaller than average (for 5'11").
Length-wise I'm probably technically around a 7, but I have a super high arch that prevents me from wearing shoes that size.
I end up wearing anywhere from 7.5-9 depending on the fit. The toes of my shoes almost always end up curling up over time due to the extra empty space.
