Big tech is picking apart European democracy, but there is a solution: switch off its algorithms | Johnny Ryan
  • The only way to stop them is to abolish the systems and institutions that enable their existence in the first place, and eating removing them from society (unless they agree to give up their ill gotten power and resources, of course. As if).

Anything else is a distraction created by those maintaining said systems and institutions (which includes the governing bodies of all nation states, as well as organisations like the EU*, as noble as the idea is in theory, and in practice in the minds of those who created it, but it is after all an economic treaty, which is upholding an economy system and the status quo) all to buy themselves more time to pillage, hoard, and manipulate society for their personal gain.

*As a brit I feel compelled to say that I'm pro EU under our current system, since our shitty government(s) must have someone to answer to (because it sure doesn't answer to the people), but I'm fully aware that it is at the end of the day a neoliberal institution that is there to maintain the status quo, not change anything fundamental to better society.

  • Abolish the structure

ID: A black and white photo of George Orwell speaking in to an old style BBC table microphone, around his image is his quote: "War is not meant to be won, it is meant to continuous. Hierarchal society is only possible on the basis of poverty and ignorance... The war is waged by the ruling group against its own subjects and its object is not the victory over either Eurasia or east Asia, but to keep the very structure of society intact."

PM plans to 'unleash AI' across UK to boost growth
  • I'm expecting the DWP to instantly adopt whatever AI it is that that insurance company that recently lost its CEO uses to deny claims. And all I can do is hope that they, and those enabling them, get a similar response (though who am I kidding, if the general public gave two shits about poor and especially disabled people being deliberately and systemically denied support and left to die, we'd have seen a reaction a decade ago).

  • y'all keep floating me to the political left. is this how MAGA folks feel?
  • You're welcome, and remember that they're for browsing, not necessarily consuming in bulk, some of them I've never read the whole way through, but they provide answers to specific questions and are great for dipping in and out of.

  • my executive dysfunction might kill my dog
  • I don't mean to sound callous, but shit happens, especially with pets. Dogs are notorious for eating things they shouldn't, I assure you a dog could find something to get in to that they shouldn't and that could harm or even kill them even in the tidiest house.

Now if you'd said you didn't take her to her appointment, or didn't even call the vet, I'd have some harsh things to say, but you reacted and acted appropriately to an accident.

You did the right thing in a difficult situation, try not to beat yourself up over it or hold yourself up to an impossible (read: neurotypical) standard (easier said than done, I know), and be there for her as she recovers.

  • y'all keep floating me to the political left. is this how MAGA folks feel?
  • I suppose you could say both are pipelines in a manner of speaking, the difference is that one is designed to target the ego and promote artificial and toxic individualism in the service of a powerful few, while the other is designed to target our natural need for community and cooperation in the service of all members of the group.

One has to be promoted artificially, dishonestly (most often by co-opting leftist ideas, see national "socialism"), and at great cost to be effective, while the other just needs to be (unless my comrades are getting those Soros cheques I missed out on? lol).

Most people, when presented with leftist ideas with the "scary" isms removed, tend to agree with them, it is the capitalist indoctrination that makes them fear said isms. Remove the indoctrination and the systems it supports, provide people with their needs rather than hold them hostage behind a paywall, as well as providing an honest and critical education, and the left wouldn't need a pipeline at all.

Meanwhile the right already have things their way, and yet they're still dependent on those levels of deep manipulation to recruit to their side, because their side is shit and only serves a handful of people.

Anyway, I'm rambling, as for resources, these are unfortunately not as accessible as a graphic history, but here are some links I have saved for more general introductory material, and a couple of more topic specific articles to get you going (they're not all from there, but in general, the anarchist library is a great resource, it can take some navigating to find what you're after, but if nothing else, you're guaranteed to find something interesting and informative on the way):

E: as for the bullshit notion that we must platform and listen to fascists and other bigots "for balance" or to avoid an "echo chamber" or whatever other bullshit - NO. Our priority is to survive in spite of those people, not to allow them to continue to walk all over us and invade literally every single space in existence so that they don't feel excluded. Fuck that.

  • Abusive boyfriend cleared of manslaughter after partner's suicide note blamed him
  • Reading the article makes me want to vomit.

She was a vulnerable woman with a history of mental illness and addiction from childhood, which is almost certainly an indication of abuse (seriously, the way they describe her condition sounds like textbook survivor of long term abuse, rather than some random affliction and cause of her problems which they're trying to frame it as, but who am I to say), who was very deliberately targeted by an abuser, who we KNOW is an abuser because he already has a conviction for battering a previous partner, and suffered formulaic abuse from the get go (he had her name and face tattooed on him after a week, proposed within 3 months, love bombing her before turning on her completely), was ignored by the police on several occasions, and eventually DRIVEN TO suicide by a person who knew that he could do just that, get her to do his dirty work for him, and he wouldn't get the blame because of her history, and look at that - success, HE has taken her life, and gets to walk away to his current girlfriend, who he was smiling at and blowing kisses to from the dock (love bombing his next victim) as his last victims' family looked on, with barely a slap on the wrist, and free reign to do it all yet again. And he will.

It's sickening, and enraging, and terrifying.

If only it weren't so much easier for so many to believe the lies* than it is to face the truth

    ID:

A 3 panel comic titled: "Aktion Kat! in: Konspiracies!"

2 anthropomorphised cats sat on the floor next to a lava lamp, passing a joint between them.

The one on the left is sitting barefoot and cross-legged on a pillow, they have long hair, square sunglasses, ripped jeans and white vest with a big medallion around their neck.

The one on the right is Aktion Kat, sat directly on the floor. They're wearing a biker jacket that has an "A", a hammer and sickle, and a smiley face pins on it, and a hat or helmet with a big "A" at the front, and goggles. They also have big boots on, and a small bandage on their tail.

Left panel: Stoner cat, takes a puff, passes and says: "hey kat! [koff!] ya know-it's all a big evil plot. the whole system is really being kontrolled by a shadowy satanik alien kult that pulls all the strings with mind kontrol, motivated solely by their lustful kraving for human suffering...."

Middle panel: Aktion Kat, taking a puff: "isn't it easier to believe that we live in a hierarchikal global ekonomic system based on the akkumulation of wealth, in which a small group of individuals and institutions own and kontrol the majority of resources and exploit the insekurities of the lower classes to amass more kapital, maintain their power, and further their own self interest?" koff!

Right panel: Stoner cat, pointing and smiling: "what??? you really believe that? you're far out kat!"

Aktion Kat, with a black squiggle above their head, facepalming: "what a buzzkill"

*Lies spread and or cultivated by those in power with their vast media empires, grasp on the state and its educational and legal systems, and ability to keep the working class too busy grinding for survival and divided against each other to unite and utilise our collective power, of course. But still.

Never forget - whatever privileges (or even just ego boost and empty promises) they throw your way exist to try and secure your compliance, or worse, active support, not to lift you up among them

ID: a drawing of a very concerned looking person, their eyes are wide, and they're holding a hand up to their mouth, it looks to be out of an old comic book, they're saying "the rich aren't your role models - they're your oppressors"
