The Sun beats down on my back
But I shiver from the cold
Small in the sea at the track
Of people far younger; I'm old
I would rather be out the front
With the protestors and signs
But it would be insulting, an affront
If the ticket paid for I declined
So I drink too much and run away
To smoke away from the crowd
Of wealth and youth led astray
By bets, in debts they drown
This is for @Gibsonhasafluffybutt but why hide it from everyone else?
If you have a Line 6 user in your life, they put up a bunch of free patches on their blog and YouTube videos. Here's one for HX models that makes it sound like two rhythm guitars at once, the link to the chat is in the chat replay https://www.youtube.com/live/dMZBiG3sP70?si=u5ONG6dUYPXsI3Rq
It has been many weeks now that I have been feeding the birds again. The garden pots have been cleaned of all bugs and currawongs and fairy wrens have started to visit again. 🙂
Heads up. Amazon is removing The Hobbit movies from their list in a week.
Such beautiful movies I could watch them all the day. Everything is a joy to see and the story is good too.
The costumes , the jewellery, the furnishings, the weaponry, armour, the calligraphy, the saddlery and other leather work, the carpentry. All the artisan work is so beautiful.
My favourite scenes are the Stone Giants, reading the moon runes, Kili and Tauriel, and finding the gate.
Anyway, it made me remember I have two acorns I picked up in the oak forests of Pennsylvania on a stop over on a road trip with my bestie Tam. I'm keeping them until I have my own settled place when I can try to grow some oak trees.
So I watched The Hobbit trilogy for about the tenth time and I think I get why they are flawed. It's not something I've read, 99% of lotr fans say it's because it doesn't follow the books or is childish or has extra story lines.
To me that's not a problem, movies are a different form of storytelling and books needs to be adapted and changed for the screen.
I think it's flawed because there are two voices in the story telling. The first is story telling as a child's story. This has world building and explanations. I really don't enough about writing to explain, I just know it when I see it.
The second voice is the same voice we hear in the LOTR movies, adult story telling. The world is not explained, it is.
Mixing the two doesn't work. I'm surprised at jackson , walsh and boyens , they know better.
So I agree that 2 movies was a necessity if they wanted to tell the story of the geopolitics of middle earth and the hobbit story.
Giving so many thanks to CEO, Nath and Lodian who have worked tirelessly for over a week to get me back, even to the extent of resolving programming issues with [email protected] . Love youse guys and everyone else here 😘😭😘😭😘
Had a picnic with the uni gardening group I'm in today. It was really nice to chat to everyone.
There's an avocado tree that was planted at the beginning of the semester with two avocados. I hope I will be given an update when they're ready to harvest.
I will miss this uni because of the familiarity, but the garden is what I'm sad about leaving. I'll go back to visit if I'm ever in the area :)
If the avos were planted as fruits at the beginning of the semester, you've got several years to wait for harvestable fruit. If the trees have fruit on them already, well, the fruit doesn't ripen until removed from or falls off the tree. Ripening then takes up to 60 days and can be longer depending on storage temperature. They might be waiting for the fruit to get bigger before taking them off the tree, though. This might give you something of a timeline.
Terrible morning. Woke up late, by the time I was ready to leave home I was going to miss the next train and the one after that wasn't for 25 minutes for some reason. Got to train station only to realise that I left my laptop charger at home. Had to watch the train go by that I would now miss. Back home, then back to station, just made the next train. When I got to Parliament to catch a tram to my co-working office, there was a protest happening so all trams going in the direction I needed to go were stuck. I then had to walk 25 minutes from the city, carrying two bags mind you. It was really comical how nothing lined up for me today. On the bright side, I got a lot of steps in this morning and had a really good coffee once I finally arrived.
I freaking HATE when you order a coffee with alternate milk. Say a flat white with Oat. You say that to them. They make it and announce "Flat white?" and you go "With oat?" and they go "..... yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyes...." in a REALLY uncertain tone.
Takes all my effort to not lock eye contact and say "Cause bro, if it isnt, and I shit myself to death your gonna experience exactly what this will feel like when I get my hands on you".
People who don't repeat orders in full bother me, I like a supreme with extra garlic, don't say only supreme back to me. Also when I'm giving numbers over the phone... 931 uh huh, 334 uh huh, 553 uhh the computer says no.
did a rough memory inventory, realised I shoulda had about four irrigatias unaccounted for. Found the last five. Now cleaning up, cycling batteries, fixing diaphragms and all that fun stuff while I inventory 6 years of organically grown watering equipment ripped out and taken with us.
Chillies have finally been planted out. They're so small. Spent months worrying about watering / hardening them up in the sun / led lighting / temp and figured fuck it close enough in we go. Will be interesting to see if I jumped the gun. Really slow growing varieties and you sometimes wonder if you've buggered something up. Needs more soil / compost but that can wait.
I’m going to ask a silly question because Im not a gardening enthusiast but, if you were to lay out the irrigation line in an “s” pattern. Wouldn’t that reduce the connection points and therefore reduce chances of failure?
Yep it would. On a really hot day in summer unclipped it would fail left right and centre. But I ran into a problem where the drip line in an S or continuous line couldn't quite deliver the same amount of water to all corners of the bed.
I ripped up another large irrigation system a few years ago and ended up with hundreds of clips and connectors and thought bugger it smoke 'em if you got 'em heh. I had doubts but 4 years in no failures (yet).
edit yea in terms of the kinkiness that was pretty much the issue. Angles were too tight and I just couldn't keep it in place with pegs etc.
edit 2 the other thing is redundancy. If there was a blockage in a continuous line then downstream has an issue. I figured (rightly or wrongly) that a sort of manifold type thing would resolve that.
Real estate update: no nasty emails, except... A notice to vacate in Feb 2025 because the owner's decided to sell. LOL. Guessed this was gonna happen when a REA supposedly joined the inspection. Good thing I've already started looking!
Plus side is now I only need to give 14 days notice when leaving so this means a whole lot less of double rent.
If I catch the unit not being sold though, or rented again under the same owner past the vacate date I'd love to report that shit (e: looks like she has 6 months from now within which she can't re-let the property. If her intention was to boot me out, hope she enjoys 5 months of no rent!)
I know you said you are already looking, but get on it sooner rather than later. This side of chirstmas is a bit slower, but jan feb is NUUUUUTs for rentals.
Oh absolutely, I was intending to have moved out by Dec anyway (which is when the rent increase was gonna kick in). Not a whole heap coming online atm, but as my next place is just short term I'm cutting out a lot of nice to haves and being a lot less picky.
I've been getting a LOT of 'bad gateway' errors on aussie.zone over the last few days. Happening no matter what device. Anyone else having the same trouble? So far today twice on both of two different devices.
I've had a lot of timeouts and blank loading screens. But my device is a cheap almost 4yo Android phone that I don't think is meant to be still going, so I thought it was me!
I’ve been occasionally stepping out the front door for a second to throw a few high quality cat food kibbles to the maggies, just letting them see my face to learn I’m not a threat and tell their mates not to swoop.
Yesterday one came walking right up to my screen door wanting to come in! He or she was genuinely curious and hung around peeping in for a couple of minutes.
I explained that they couldn’t come in because there was a kitty living in here, so they stuck around a little longer and eventually wandered off.
We have crows in Melbourne, but the most common is actually the Little Raven. I think it's so cool that we have ravens tbh, the little Poe fan in me squeals haha.
They're all very intelligent, magpies, crows, and ravens; so if you do give them treats, theyll actually remember your face and tell their mates. So smart 😍🐦⬛
I'm jealous, I wanted wanted to befriend the local magpie but it's never really taken an interest in me, at least it's not swooping me in my front yard though.
