The statements he is making would have had anyone socially ostracized and effectively exiled. Yet, here is a presidential candidate saying the most batshit things you have ever heard. Schools performing gender affirming operations? How the fuck you get to the point where you believe that? Show me the operating room in the school. This is why I believe we are fucked. This doesnt go away, not even if Trump dies. We have to find a way to deprogram or find a way to build resistance to this bullshit so that when our generations die out, the following ones are less prone to propaganda and manipulation. And gee, I wonder Why Rubepublicans have been destroying education for longer than I have been alive.
I bet if you scoured his printed quotes by day you could find something that'd have disqualified anyone else for each day. Yet some people actually believe the shit that comes out of his upper anus.
His lies/alternate reality are not so much believed as embraced - the people who support him already loathe and hate the things he's talking about. All he's doing is lending them legitimacy. Most people are, by and large, reactionary and seek out things and people that confirm their own beliefs. Nothing here is new apart from the scale of it and the new technical ability to increase that scale.
He doesn’t believe any of it. He just knows his loyalists and followers are fucking stupid. So he’s taking advantage of this for votes. He’s desperate.
The problem is. He’s hit his threshold. He’s not picking up new voters. So he’s going further into the abyss to try and get the full-time bat shit insane voters.
There is no argument for Republicanism, there is only racist authoritarianism and the complete destruction of egalitarian secular Democratic institutions.
Lying is all they have, and for half of the American electorate, it's enough.
It won't be enough in the long run when they start dying and their children have to work in the mines again, but for a brief shining moment before that (a million dead from a mismanaged and purposefully sandbagged viral pandemic response aside) they will bathe in the belief their white christian righteous superiority.

I think even Fox is amazed that people believe all this shit. They took it so slow at their start, but recently everything has shown people just eat up the most insane shit.
However you look at it it always boils down to marketing and comms. Everyone looks for the best way to get the votes, testing how far they can go. But the left can't afford to be unethical because that's part of their identity and they would lose their core voters. The right however... Found trump.
It sounds lame but the best way for the democrats to win is to get people to vote. I believe that was the single reason behind Obama's ama on Reddit a few years back.

There are 27 days until the election closes and there are still people saying things along the lines of "wanting to maintain leverage on the Democrats by not voting". That's 27 days to tell people there wont be a democracy if they don't vote and no Democratic Party left to leverage against. Republicans want to end our democracy and jail their political opponents.
I'm not sure they want to only jail their political opponents. The unhinged magamonkeys are seething over lots of nonsense their thought leaders dream up on the daily, and many are stroking off to shooting their neighbors, co-workers, family members and all over a bunch of lies. If they won't pull the trigger themselves, they seem positively giddy about the idea of putting people on trains.
