Had brunch with friends; haven't done that in ages, and it felt delightful, normal. Came home to everyone in a shirty mood, resentful at me going out without them for once lol. Made my home made nuggies while I did a load of washing and we've just feasted. Now I'm going to have a lay down until it's time to do my MILs eye drops. She had laser treatment on her eyes a few weeks ago and is no good with putting them in, so that's been my little nursey task, same time every day.
I'm going to decline my job offer. Something along the lines of... "My listed expected salary was well considered, and perhaps I'm naive but I hoped it would be well considered by management too. Unless you are willing to meet my expected salary then I decline your offer. I did not intend to waste your time. Thank you for your consideration."
"As we have been unable to agree on salary for the position, it is with regret that I will be declining the offer. I'd like to thank everyone involved in the interview for their efforts. Regards Force_maj"
Don't apologise; they also wasted your time; they know what a reasonable salary is and they're assholes for not offering it.
e: reverse the opening line: "It is with regret that I will be declining the offer as we are unable to agree on the appropriate salary for the position."
I have already completed the satisfying job of removing everything from the fridge, cleaning all the shelves/drawers, wiping down all the bottles and containers and putting them back again.
I had planned on some garden work, but rain means I will plug away at admin in computer instead.
Nup. The kitchen tap developed a really bad leak on Friday night so spent some time with damage control and repairs. That’s my imperative for the weekend done. Spending my time cooking and drinking now haha. It’s awful 😎
I've declared it a study day not a housework day. Not getting anything done in all honesty. Time to pull my finger out. 500 words and 2 policies to write.
Have been a bit down and stressed lately, so decided to take bf to do one of the things that makes me oddly happy - watching the container terminal at Sandridge Point.
Cooking up the gravy beef for broth - Melbcat was interested as soon as she saw me cutting the meat up and now she's waiting in the kitchen because she can smell it.
Best thing about wireless controllers is that they fit into the pocket of my oodie and I can play with the controller and my hands covered and stay nice and warm.
Massive day playing a tournament for my social sports league. Someone in my team (who I hadn’t played with before) was so full on, correcting people on their technique when they were not playing flash themselves. Of course I want to do well but I’m there playing mainly for fun and this person was a huge negative presence. As soon as anyone made a mistake she was in their grill with her criticism. Super draining and not the only one who felt that way. If you’re going to take the role of the experienced know it all, then make sure you can talk the talk.
Then we went out after with all the teams for some drinks. Some very icy vibes thrown my way, probably because I started to get frustrated with their behaviour and it may have came out in my tone of voice during game play. Oh well. On my way home and ready for bed.
doesn’t mean you gotta smell like dirty arse on a warm day.
Imma going to wait 30 mins until the midnight snack so that statement is slightly out of mind and won't conflict with the beautiful aroma of a dim sim.
That dish looks better and cooks better if you take the skin off the chicken drumsticks first. Also use enough french onion soup powder - the whole packet. I also find that today's apricot nectar is not what it once was. If you feel brave enough to try this again, blitz up a few apricots to pulp and add that to the nectar - this recreates what apricot nectar used to be, which is what this recipie is designed to use. I like to add some some fresh apricot halves too - a good way to use slightly underripe apricots. The charm of this dish is the balance of salty/sweet/chicken flavours. Feel free to add chilli if you like it. It's a good dish when done well.
The recipie called for chicken thighs, browned before going in the oven. Tbh the flavours just didn’t work together at all. You could individually taste the apricot, the French onion and the chicken but they didn’t fuse together. I’d deffo cook chicken like that again, but yeah… not with those flavours.
Yeah I guess it’s just one of those “this is your thing or it’s absolutely not” kind of flavours. Mrs said I did a great job with it, but the taste was just aweful.
Today is grey as fuck. Got the coloured polychromatic wifi led lights on shades of hot pink, reds and oranges in a desperate attempt to bring some warmth and dynamism.
Also my fingers slipped and I accidently bought a new rug. Whoopsy.
Experiment time: Miele vacuum vs Aldi stick vacuum
Question: Will the stick vac pick up anything that Miele didn't?
Apparatus: One 28 year old barrel Miele vacuum with a fresh bag. One fairly new recharged, clean Aldi stick vacuum.
Method: Unlimited time use of the Miele on the carpet. 5 minute use of the stick vac.
Hypothesis: My haphazard use of the stick vac will pick up something compared to the careful manoeuvring of the MOTH with the Miele.
Results: results still pending (the fucking thing is still charging)
Place your bets.
UPDATE Results are in.
Results: That little stick vac did indeed pick up a reasonable amount of fluff.
Conclusion: That trusty Miele has seen some stuff I can tell you but the stick vac whipped it's arse. I agree with @[email protected] when I've caned the shit out of the stick vac the Miele will still keep going which is why it will become a family heirloom passed down to the grand kids/ grand pets and I'll be getting myself a Miele stick vac.
I have become a firm believer in wood, tile or vinyl floors and good rugs.
The rugs should be beaten over a railing outside to get the dust out. Most dirt that comes in on shoes or blows in has tiny quartz crystals that work their way down into the pile and cuts fibres with their sharp micro edges.
I'm going the Miele. The Miele machines were very good. Even if the rechargeable stick vacuum does a great job initially, I've heard it's hard to get replacement filters/batteries for them and some are fiddly to clean. Can't vouch for your aldi one, YMMV. But I reckon once you consider the running time before they run out of charge, and the overall durability and performance of the Miele over the years.. I'll bet you still have the Miele in 2 years time and the stick vac will be out in the street.
Well that was actually very interesting! I encourage any and all of you to conduct this type of comparison in future and report the findings here. Very Choice Magazine of us lol.
I remember my dream for once: I was a student in some weird school, where you had to behave extremely well, were monitored constantly. When it was home time, it was extremely difficult to actually leave the school. Some exits turned into (almost) never ending puzzles... Like a staircase to the front door of the school never got to the front door somehow. Eventually you could get out, but it was A LOT harder to get out if you had misbehaved that day. Very frustrating
Apparently we could fund our house deposit with an OF channel dedicated to Boyo rubbing himself with bacon. While I consider him sizzling, not sure there is enough market for this.
TV review. Law and Order: Criminal Intent. I'm rewatching this series.
Most of the series is a homage to Sherlock Holmes with D'Onofrio playing Holmes and Erbe playing Watson. Most episodes are greatly toned down for television, even tho many stories are based on true crimes the true horror of the crimes are not shown, not the scenes, not the act, not the suffering of families, not the toll on law enforcement. It is an entertaining who dunnit.
But every now and then L&O; CI shows some reality and it's truly terrifying, disturbing.
Series 4 episode 17, Shibboleth, appears to be based on a true crime made famous again in James Elroy's book, The Black Dahlia. Being a huge Elroy fan I read the book when it first came out, disturbing, in his detailed descriptions we build a mental picture of what happened and the last moments of the victims. The mental images stay with you. I recognised this case straight away.
I mention this episode for a few reasons. Yes, we can learn from true crime stories, learn what is possible and hopefully how to prevent ourselves and our loved ones from becoming victims.
But also it demonstrates the storytelling of crime shows, demonstrates that nearly all crime shows show the idea of violence, they don't show real violence.
I bought a litre of fresh orange juice at the Mildura farmers market yesterday. I took a swig before realising that was probably a bad idea since it still needed to spend about 8 hours in my bag. I think it's meant to be refrigerated, and it definitely wouldn't have been treated. But I'm already sick so I'm going to drink it and just hope it doesn't make me worse. It tastes a lot more acidic than supermarket stuff, so that might help it not kill me, I hope. It smells fine, anyway
I had a swig of it and a chorizo and cheese sandwich and I'm starting to feel better. I think now I need a nap though
I have achieved nothing so far... Thought I had given myself enough of a rest but came back to the flat after a coffee and a little walk and my body override me and went back to sleep. Have finally managed to wake up. Got some black beans in the instant pot for meals this week. Microwavibg leftovers for lunch.
New plan. Just get the clothes away, a tidy reset and a sweep of the floors.
Lemme see - soy, hot chilli, mild sweet chilli, mustard, balsamic, mayo x 3 (garlic, plain and dijonnaise), tomato, hoisin, fish, oyster - nah, 6 is just getting started. Does sesame oil count as a sauce or as an ingredient?
EDIT: soy x 2 (dark & light)
I thought I was being smart and making the most of my long day out at the 'Rat by filling up at 177c... Shoulda checked Petrol Spy, the reliable ol' BP on Heidelberg Rd was still at 172! Oh well, shout out to the Sebastopol BP, they have shit ratings on Google but I've always only ever had the loveliest staff there, I'll cop the $1.35 extra.
Some hectic winds forecast for Tuesday morning. Does this mean we can make it an extra long weekend? I kinda wish I could wfh but given that I've just had a long holiday and need to be briefed on some site visits for Wednesday, possibly not. :c
Wine has been drunk
Songs have been sung
Fruits, nuts, meats, grains
We partake and we dance
In worship to Dionysus
The meaning of life is music
And to fuck
This raises some questions. So for example in some older apartment buildings the outdoor unit of the split system is usually mounted onto one side of the building. In some buildings there may not be enough space to mount so many units, and there's also the question of structural integrity as well.
The regulations also say this must all be done by 30 October 2027. As it stands in this country we already have a massive shortage in trades and a backlog in getting work done. So you've got three years to get all of Vic sorted, which currently I think would be very difficult, and most probably have an inflationary effect as tradies jack up the prices.
As an owner (not a landlord) I remember having to wait a few months to get my a/c installed. Can't imagine what it would be like in a rush to beat a deadline.
Of course people can sell, whether that would dampen property prices or crash them, it's hard to say. But a depressed housing market may have broader consequences in terms of general consumer psychology and create recessionary pressures. It may also lead the landlords increasing rents.
In principal it's a good idea, but I am concerned in practice there's going to be lots of unintended side effects.
