Known Issues
We hear your concerns about dark mode and will address these.
Swipe actions against posts don't always update the post's icons.
What's coming
iOS and Android full release! We'll keep test flight and early access going for beta testers!
One thought - I wonder if dark mode is a little too dark, could maybe do with being slightly grey/blue and have post shadows off by default (but on in light mode). Love the green dividers in amold mode!
I'm going to join the gang of dark mode is too dark.
I see that it splits the comments in half, so maybe if it is possible to add a grey mode that looks like the old dark mode, both sides could be happy.
I use dark mode as much as possible, but this dark mode is migraine inducing to me due to the white on black colorscheme.
Personal preference I guess but I preferred the greyer UI. I find the text easier to read on a lighter background. Be cool to have an option to change the background colours as well.
Thanks for the update but honestly dark mode is way too dark now. Liftoff had the easiest on the eye dark mode before this so it's disappointing to see it look like the official reddit app now.
I cannot emphasize how important this is for my eyes, the sooner you guys can bring this back the better.
BTW, can you provide more info on "compact view to be more compact". What exactly changed? I have the feeling that the space within posts has been reduced but I am not sure. If that is the case then I preferred to have a more clear separation within posts (already disabled the shadow).
Is there a way to disable swipe-gestures?
They do look nice but I constantly save or upvote random posts or comments just by scrolling and fat-fingering
Great update, but I am not a fan of swipe actions. Could you add an option to disable the feature? Maybe I'm blind and just stupid but I could not find this option in this release.
In notifications there's really no need to collapse those comments, could you make it that tapping it would go straight to the comment you're notified about (instead of trying to aim at the little link icon) and would mark that notification as read (instead of trying to aim at the little tick icon)?
Will there be push notifications?
When searching via website I get to search throughout many instances and in the app I must select one, either lemmy.world or one I'm on. Also sometimes I can't subscribe to other instaces' communities because it wants me to log in so I need to use browser instead. I imagine handling all this federation is not an easy task, you think it will be possible to adress it? It must be the hardest thing to code in the entire app, isn't it?
Huge fan of 1. Definitely expect that to be the behavior instead of having to hit the link icon
Second to this, when we go to the comment can we have it automatically do the in context action? I have to hit it every time. I post enough that I can't remember exactly what they're replying to
Love the swipe actions! This might already be planned, but one thing I've seen with other Apps is haptic feedback during swipe, as you go from no action to action #1 to action #2.
Howdy! I like the app a lot, and I wanted to see if I could help! When I set the app to Welsh, most of the words are indeed not Welsh. I am still learning Welsh but I'd like to help translate the app if possible.
However, the Weblate instance you have linked on Github confuses me, I can't sign up (edit: 405 error) and I am unable to find the directory containing Liftoff, it just redirects back to the parent directory.
Bore da, we no longer support that weblate setup, so we do need to update that page.
In the meantime, if you want to get an idea of the task ahead of you, have a look at this file. Each piece of text starting >>> indicates a missing Welsh translation. As you can see, there's a lot to do there. If you're involved in any Welsh-speaking communities it might be a nice shared activity that could spark some interesting discussion.
If this suddenly seems very daunting, don't worry, we will get there eventually.
Thanks for the link. It is a lot but I am excited to practice. It would probably take me a while between work and university, but I anticipate the update. Let me know when Webulate is updated.
Appreciate the update, but the central drop down for feed choice now having been moved to one side, feels really unbalanced...& detracts from the app origins...Much preferred the central positioning of all the prior versions...
Hey, not sure if this is the case for others but the second tab (I think it's meant to be subbed communities) is broken and has been for awhile now. Something about a null something or other. Will edit to add the correct error in a sec.
App looks great otherwise though I do agree about it being a bit dark. Someone suggested a grey mode in the colour of the old dark mode and I would love that
E: error is "null check operator used on null value"
This is a lingering error with the forced logout that some instances did. You can remove and re add your account and it will be fixed or you can wait a few days and we'll get it fixed.
Ah it finally rolled out to me, I love the swipe gestures! Only additional requests with swipes is to be able to customize the actions, have haptic feedback, and toggle on/off.
I'd love to be able to short swipe to upvote + long swipe to downvote. I had it set up that way on Apollo for years and it would be such a big QOL thing for me lol. (example)
Some misc things:
highlighted text shows cut/copy/paste but not replace, look up, translate, etc. (screenshots)
Nice work on the app, really liking it so far.
Is it possible to do a universal search? I only seem to be able to search in the instance my account is it.
can we please get a better / additional way for favoriting posts? the new swipe feature is really buggy. you swipe and it decides random if it favorites the post or not. and if you want to remove a favorited post, it often don't works at all and takes what feels 5-6 trys (swipes). can you atleast give us a additional button to favorite / unfavorite posts? and a option to disable this swipe actions in the settings would be nice too. I'm sometimes trigger them by accident since i have the new update and would rather use a normal button instead.
thanks!
p.s: the sorting in the profile overview is also buggy and often don't works. clicking sorting by new doesn't really does sort by new for me most of the times.
There should be an option in the post menu to save a post without using the swipe gesture. I thought it was removed and didn't even think to try swiping.
The editing of the photo is nice as the topbar. The scroll to save option works but i don't know how to unsave the post in the folder. Also i'm not a fan of the new position of the 3 dot menu in the post.
Any change to have the link thumbnails image in card view mode??
^ That didn't happen before. It's fixed by opening the account list. The subscription tab only shows a timeout error now all the time and the bookmark button is missing :(
EDIT: oh, just found the swipe actions. Some thoughts on that: a two-staged swipe-action isn't very intuitive and will lead to the wrong action being triggered more often than not. Maybe make a left swipe bookmark and right swipe upvote. With the bookmark swipe I can't unbookmark anymore and even if I could, there would be no indication right away.
I have an issue with adding my account from lemmy.world. It accepts it, but after a couple of hours it will not fetch any posts from lemmy.world anymore. It still works great with my other account on another instance, but my lemmy.world-account will not.
To be fair: I had the same issue with Jerboa, so I don't know if it is the app or lemmy, world. The website works fine though...
Please add a way to disable swipe actions. I've been bouncing between 4 different apps, and I thought Liftoff already had them and I disabled them, but they came back overnight, but I guess you're saying they're new. Please add a way to disable them. I really don't like them. I trigger them all the time by accident, randomly voting on or saving things.
I'm using it on a Linux laptop. The swipe gestures on a multi-point touchpad is simply the most intuitive and user friendly navigation I've experienced natively from any Linux application ever.
I'm not sure what exactly the issue is but the app keeps pausing my music. I thought it was the in line videos but replying here paused my music as well.
I just discovered Liftoff today, and I like its minimalistic design. However I noticed that some random NSFW images in my timeline won’t load, as you can see in the screenshot. These posts display fine in other apps. Maybe this is something you could look into.
I used to be a RedReader person and I know RedReader is getting Lemmy support eventually, but with how this app is coming along, I might stay indefinitely.
Buttons at the top of the screen opening menus at the bottom of the screen are a bit irritating. Better UX would be to have the menus near the buttons for less reaching.
