Discord introduces a feature that lets you quietly ignore users without them knowing

But it still says "1 ignored message" when they say something. I want it HIDDEN ENTIRELY, Discord!
- It's called plugins, and it's great. Technically you are breaking ToS when using them, but there hasn't been any crackdown (the betterdiscord team did remove the more 'risky' mods like messagelogger from the plugin store)
  
  betterdiscord is pretty bad, try legcord or vesktop
  
  Can you use them on Android?
- I want there to be a setting.
  
  Sometimes the context of a missing message in a group chat is important.
- I don't even mind the 1 ignored message. At least it gives me slight context that people are replying to something. I hate that it gives me the little "new messages" indicator on chats when it's only users I have ignored.
Wow. Standard feature of the IRC clients.

  I really, REALLY HATE when the main discussion forum of some FOSS is either Discord or Reddit.
great. can we get actual blocking now? something that people have wanted for as long as the app has been around? 🥲

  Well, you still see the blocked message, just not the contents of that message. They can also still see your messages, they just can't react with emotes. This is just feedback I've seen from people who use the feature, as some people (not necessarily me) take issue with these things
  
  Pretend you blocked me. Below is sort of what it looks like in their UI. Personally I like it this way.

  This is for group chats. Blocking still prevents DMs.
- They did test it at one point. I got the test. Honestly, I didn't like it--- seeing gaps in conversation that I can't click sucks.
You couldn't do that before? That's stupid.
- this seems basically the same as how blocking has worked for forever so idk
  
  It was fairly easy for someone to know you blocked them since they wouldn't be able to react to your messages or suddenly couldn't dm you anymore, I assume that won't apply to this.
- the blocking feature would let the blocked person know when they try to DM the user or react to the user. this "ignore" feature appears to hide all messages and DMs while still allowing reactions
I don't think this is a good feature. If you're going to ignore someone, own up to it and let them know, don't let them in the dark
- That is assuming the other person is interacting in good faith. If there’s one thing the internet is full is trolls.
- Yes, that’s a healthy way to handle normal interactions.
  
  However if you are being harassed by someone you don’t want to interact with them.
  
  Often times blocking informs the other user which has been shown to just make people resort to other means.
  
  There is practical application of not responding being better in some situations.
  
  In normal human interaction, be good to each other. Ghosting is awful.
  
  I don’t think this is intended for ghosting people though.
  
  People will use it for ghosting unfortunately

- But they could make an alt account if they see you blocked them
- This guy doesn't know I'm ignoring him, and it makes me giggle
