Im brand new here and digging it. The lack of ads is a big part of that. That and the chiller vibe. I do wish it had gifs/videos. Not just images & text
Thanks for making this, and especially using an excellent design in a shareable meme format that pitches Lemmy simply to users.
One day we may need to have ads to pay the bills if we have another massive Reddit exodus. What are your thoughts on creating an alternate one that says something like “your data not tracked or sold”?
The main point is being able to still access all of the communities if your admin goes rogue (similar to what Reddit is doing). That's possible on Lemmy, you export / import your settings and you're set.
Keep the same username, add a link to your new and old profiles and the bio, and you just moved instances. You may have lost your comments history, but there is no karma anyway, so why care? And it's still accessible on your old account.
Note that I just updated it to answer guaraguaito's remark regarding Lemmy being ad-free. Also, the SVG file is available for anyone to play with (it's SVG file, made with Inkscape, using the DejaVu Serif font)
what do you actually mean when you say you hate politics? you hate having to think about how things suck? or you hate having to watch marginalized people fight for their rights?
I'm assuming they mean they want an experience that isn't dominated by politics. Which I totally understand and I agree with. It would be great if there were lots of active communities that were around hobbies and interesting and fun casual things. I guess that can only be achieved by reaching a certain scale though.
I think trying to go down that road could be a bad path, because it definitely could be. In a lot of ways, Lemmy is kind of the opposite of all those privacy first deals.
