The people who would create the sanctions are the same people funding the dictators. There are no well-defined sides anymore based on political philosophy or anything else. It's just two powers in the world now, the wealthy and the religious fanatics. Both prefer dictators because it's easier to keep a single dictator distracted with political toil who will then keep the people distracted with meaningless hate-driven decisiveness. Much easier for the tiny minority to keep power than actually running functioning economies and centrist or left wing political structures of any kind.
The last one got away with it not long ago, although I believe that one was owned by China. Guess they thought it was the perfect time to go for another.
We have been de facto at war for a while. And world War 3 has already been raging for years now. Just none of it is presently like the movies and fiction told people what it would be.
Depending on what America decides to do the next year could see a change in that. Russia and Europe could start shooting at each other sooner than anyone wants to admit. Not because Europe is itching to get into a nuclear war. But more because Russia is a dying nation and will act more and more erratic as they lose control of their empire.
I didn't get that from the article but they've been a bitch of a member. Always causing problems. I fear they'll do the same if they join the EU. But maybe better kept in the corral than running wild across the pasture so to speak.
Edit to add- they disgust me by using the unstable situation in Syria to further attack the Kurdish people and the Kurdish-led multi-ethnic free democratic communities of North and East Syria. Rojava has been an amazingly resilient force for good and equitable democracy in the region. It's a place where a woman could flee from ISIS slavery and have all their needs met, even if one of those needs is "give me a gun, I'm going to kill those motherfuckers".
Turkey has been supplying and paying rebel groups opposed to these ideals because its autocratic government considers every Kurd a terrorist. They have been attacking wonderful accepting helpful people, using the Syrian revolution as cover.
They said listening and recording equipment was brought on to the 20-year-old tanker via “huge portable suitcases” along with “many laptops” that had keyboards for Turkish and Russian languages when calling at Türkiye and Russia.
And
“Russians, Turkish, Indian radio officers were operating it.”
Does this not imply that that they were used by both Turkey and Russia?
Yeah I saw it reported in a few online publications all crediting Lloyd's as the source. I think it took longer to hit mainstream news because of the holidays. FYI, I didn't think it was to embarrass Russia, I'm just leary of war propaganda (remember Ghost of Kiev?) and anything click-baity. Actual news reporting/opinion/bullshit all look the same online. Nobody wants to pay for anything anymore and that doesn't help
Lloyd's List is one of the world's oldest continuously running journals, having provided weekly shipping news in London as early as 1734. But, sure, they could have made the whole thing up to make Russia look bad. :) Look around, maybe you can find something more credible to your tastes.
