In the US, did Amazon kill the mall, is everyone too broke, or a combination of other factors?
  • Indoor malls have been on the way out for a while. They're large Indoor spaces that need to be heated or cooled and attract young people with no money and nowhere to go. Also in a mall you only buy so much as you tired of carrying it around. An outdoor Plaza encourages people to go back to their car and unload.

  • Yep
  • This isn't true. Off the top of my head I can think of at least two democrats who've been sentenced to prison. I vote democratic party 99% of the time and I don't disagree with the premise but I don't want like-minded folks going around with bad info

  • Those without A/C, what are your tips to stay cool during the summer?
  • At night cool your house down by opening windows and using windows fans. I have a two story house. Heat rises so I'll place window fans blowing out in the upstairs windows and fans blowing in upstairs. In the morning close up the windows and close curtains and shades over the windows that receive direct sunlight. If you have a room that gets hotter than the others shut the door to that room or hang a curtain over the doorway. My hot water tank is in a first floor room so I isolate that room and leave the windows open. Have a ceiling fan? Make sure it's blowing in the right direction. Most have a switch so you can alternate direction it blows the air. Not always practical but soaking your feet in cool water will lower your body temperature. Much like coolant cools a combustible engine car your blood circulates through your body distributing heat. Personally I avoid using AC while driving as much as I can. It's my opinion that when we get used to such comforts we suffer without them. I do have a window unit but use it only on the hottest nights. One last thought. Some lights or appliances in your house may give off a lot of heat, feel around them to find which ones do and switch them off. You can't do anything about your refrigerator (gives off a lot) I had a plasma TV that felt like a space heater and also used a lot of electricity

  • Why are fake laughs added to sitcoms?
  • Also worth noting the canned laughter began with radio programs. The Wikipedia page on laugh tracks has a well detailed explanation on the evolution of this under History In The United States on it's Laugh Tracks page

  • Why are fake laughs added to sitcoms?
  • It's weird, I grew up watching shows with laugh tracks but now they make me cringe. I can watch reruns of those old shows no problem but if I see a new show and it has a laugh track I'm immediately put off.

  • Punks on Film - [Resources]
  • Thanks, great list!

    My contribution:

Rude Boy (1980): Lots of Clash live footage with the social upheaval in London as a background. Or is it the other way around? Must see for any Clash fan. Lots of unintelligible dialog from mumbling Brits and their crazy slang. Currently on Night Flight pay streaming service

Times Square (1980) not sure if this is something you want on your list but you might enjoy. Two girls form a punk band and shit goes sideways. Featuring a young Tim Curry

The Dicks From Texas (2014) documentary on The Dicks. Gotta admit I haven't seen this one yet.

If you aren't aware already Night Flight is an excellent streaming service specializing in Rock stuff. They're having a sale $50 for a year, as far as I know it's still available at that price. In the 80's it was a late night cable show I never got to watch as we didn't have cable. The original episodes are on the streaming service. Despite showing a lot of main stream stuff it was pretty radical for it's time. New Wave Theater was a segment within the show that had some underground stuff until it's host got stabbed to death

Forbidden Zone is on Tubi. Oingo Boingo provides the soundtrack to this film directed by Richard Elfman

I prefer the original black and white version as it matches the era much of the (non OB) soundtrack comes from but watchable gonna do?

My first attempts at tying Game Changers

They both got fished today and both leaned a bit to one side while moving through the water. Initially I thought an uneven body shape acted as a rudder but maybe I need to twist the wire connecting the hook to the first shank a bit. Anybody have any input on this?
