His build up to the announcement cracked me up:

Wait, the CEO of The Onion goes by “Tim Onion” on Bluesky? My word, this whole thing just keeps getting funnier.
"Tim Onion" is so clever due to it's visual resemblance of "The Onion".
"Tim" and "The" have the same visual profile (width/ height distribution and curved letters), so if you squint your eyes, they look very similar.
In Our Dumb History, the founder of the Onion was said to be Friedrich Siegfried Zweibel. "Zweibel" is German for "onion."
EDIT: "Zwiebel" is "onion," not "Zweibel." Almost certainly chosen due to its similarity to the word, though.
The Onion does things because they know how to be funny and not be destructive.
The Republican Party and the insane MAGA cult, does things at the expense of others to only humor themselves.
Big difference.
I mean, you gotta get creative when reality keeps making the best jokes by itself.
