Omg that is an amazing photo!! The one male house sparrow being eyed off by the lorikeet ๐
I love pigeons, legit my favourite bird. I just love their shape, their cute coos, and how funny they look when the males try to dance for the females.
How are you doing now? I hope the day managed to be a bit kinder to you after this morning. Please feel free to vent in here if you think it might help.
Thanks. It's tough because I know that I really just need to get a new job. I'm not cut out for this one and that's okay, but I keep fighting it which is just detrimental to myself.
Hang in there mate. I've had a shit time recently too. Day at a time is the way to go. As banal as it sounds, recognising the doom spiralling and catastrophising is an important step towards trending back to a stable state. You got this
I'm trying to update my bank account details on my work's payroll software and it's not letting me do it. So I sent an email to payroll, and almost signed it off with "Retards" instead of "Regards". Just one of those days.
I planned on a nice relaxing day today but the man is here and it's hard to relax with the energizer bunny hopping around asking if there's anything I'd like him to do. Yes, go outside and don't come back for a really long time. I know that's mean and I know I'm lucky but he's been bopping around since 8 am and I'm tired watching him now.
Yessss! That's pretty much what happens. I say to him "I love you and I love having you here but I'm gonna pretend you're not here because you're messing up my system". ๐
send him over here, we got lawns that need mowin' and our resident ADHD is off taking his referral diagnosis to a gp to refer him a psychologist who can approve his referral and refer him back to a GP to prescribe meds
This one will be dedicated to potat and only potat. Should be twice as big hopefully by the end.
Was also about to start the chillo patch on the left there (which looks awful for now). Not stressed have a month to sort that. Disconnected the water but apparently I left it on and it went off just as my head was right near the drip line was aimed at my face. I sounded like this
When Mickey is dozing on my chair he is always in the mood for kisses. He starts purring like a tractor when I kiss his belly, and he starts rolling over more to make sure I kiss it all. It's the only time I can touch his tummy without losing an appendage; hands and arms are absolutely no go, only face!
Pic of him rolled over after I kissed his whoooole tummy, I stop when he stops purring ๐ I'm not gonna push him with my eyes so close to his claws lol
Laneway Festival ticket acquired. Friend and her friends got some too! So now we are going together as a big group and I have something to look forward to :)
I did the thing....the rm -rf * thing in the wrong directory

Did not take out the server but did take out one of those legacy Cron jobs that's been running for years but no-one quite remembers how it works and it turns out it was not being backed up (that was a fun additional realisation) and kinda sorta really important.
Eek.
Just spent the last few hours surgically reinstating the code from and out of date backup.
Second big thing done for the week, finishing up at one job. While I know it was the best choice for everyone there is certainly a feeling of sadness/loss. I'm going to try walk some of it off and let it flow through.
After uni tomorrow my next biggest things for the week are (a) ramping up the rental search, (b) massive cleaning on weekend
E: walk done, sweat exuded, shower and OMITB and dinner and early sleep tonight I think. Uni library first thing tomorra
Little bit exorbitant innit? I like the tucked away privacy parts of it but imagine trying to clean it. Or get from one side to the other, not to mention stairs.
Also I could never afford that and donโt think anything should cost that much. If I could afford it Iโd probably take somewhere more modest and help others out with the remainder
Oh that reminds me. The pigeon babies left the nest. both seemed to survive ok. But before I could trim the damn hedges another pigeon moved in and laid some eggs. Damn things are like tribbles.
Ok Iโm tracking now. Itโs like the minutes of last meeting in the title. The mystery pizza.
There must be at least couple common ingredients that they always have leftover, but then it depends on the pizza joint as well and the longevity of the ingredients. Hmm tricky.
Although anchovies probably arenโt regularly requested, they do keep well so Iโm guessing they wonโt be a topping.
I canโt think of any pizza I would turn my nose up at though.
Iโve been thinking about it and only god knows what theyโll throw into it. It could be totally vegetarian as well and all those leftovers for all I know.
I only hope it doesnโt end up with chillies or eggplants and Iโll be ok I reckon.
I will report back when I pick it up later tonight.
With private insurance, I get a ~$200/yr annual allowance. Curiously, some optometrists have sales of glasses for ~$200. Pure coincidence, I'm certain.
Anyway, I effectively get glasses for free (I don't, private health insurance is expensive) and was browsing on the weekend for something I don't actually desperately need because that allowance expires in 8 weeks.
gotta order new sunnies. i think it was 1k last time just for the lenses! Guarantee you when I finally order the sunnies my damn prescription will change again as well!
One mystery pizza please, whatever you do, no banana. No banana anywhere near this mystery pizza or it's surroundings. If the pizza you are about to serve me has been in the same room as a banana at any point in it's life, I don't want it
not sure if anxious or excited, I've been getting dirt roaded for so long I've lost the ability to tell the difference. So I'm distracting myself designing suction cup hangers for our shampoop scalp massagers, I'm sick of seeing His Lordship's migrate across the bathroom. Very schmick if I say so myself.
Share market seems to be up today - although when the value of your shares has hit rock bottom up is pretty much all that's left! Although my worst performer is just sitting there with it's 87% loss, it's not even worth the cost of selling at this point. I might be able to recoup enough for a sandwich, as long as it's a cheap one from the lunch truck and nothing fancy.
I decided to dip the toes into ETFs last December, using the Superhero app. Mix of Aussie and US, i just add money to my account any month i have any left over to do so, ill put some in savings and some into the ETF account. Probably looking at about 10% increase across the board when i hit the 1 year mark which has been nice. Your worst performer reminds me of much of my crypto, not worth the hassle of trading or withdrawing out!!
I had some fun with penny stocks that dissolved. Legit no idea what happened. Only a few hundred, but I could have used it for plenty of other more enjoyable things.
I think if the company winds up you just lose the money. I also had one company that did a buy-back of small parcels of shares which you had to opt out of if you wanted to keep the shares. Another was bought out by an overseas company - which was actually nice, I made a 50% profit in just over 12 months. I wish I'd bought more than $200 worth of that one!
I've been learning a lot about how the market works, but I definitely prefer funds than individual stocks. But buying a few stocks for $200 has taught me a lot about how everything works. I lost a lot of the value almost straight away, but I have gained most of the losses back over the last couple of years - if things continue as they are I look like I might actually start to make a profit longer term, so things are not as bad as they looked initially.
My Council has changed to have many individual local wards, I have three candidates, last year there were two. It used to have a system where you voted for all the candidates in the entire Council area, and the top group got in.
"bag" is feminine in gender in Deutsch - granted they are talking about 'die Tasche' not 'spammenbag' as above. My personal opinion is 'die spammenbag' would be correct as it encompasses the likely effect as well as the noun. Who says you can't pun in German.
Likely the lag between lemmy.world and Aussie zone.
I can see your comments no worries, but there was a post months ago saying it takes up to 7 days for Aussie and world instances to sync.
