Crosspost feature doesn't show which post was the original one
I just crossposted something using Thunder and another user let me know that my crosspost did not show that the other post was the original.
See here: https://lemmy.ca/comment/11901004
Not sure how that can happen but seems like a bug in Thunder then?

Thunder can't display the image in this comment, but it loads fine in the web UI.
lemmy.world Button copy - Lemmy.WorldBefore there were retroreflective coatings on road signs, some places used retroreflective dots to trace the letters and shapes.

? Can't post anything when using tablet
Hi.
When using my tablet (Android 13, Lenovo) to post in Thunder I always get the following error message:
type'_Map<String, dynamic> is not a subtype of type 'String'
What I did:
- Turn off tablet, turn on tablet
- several alternative keyboards
- all system updates
- newest app version
- deleted Thunder and reinstalled it
This happens since about three or four Thunder updates have passed. Before that it worked fine.
Is it a bug? Or might it be a problem on my end?
-
Notifications broken?
I haven't received a notification from Thunder in a few weeks. I double-checked the settings to make sure "Enable Inbox Notifications" is enabled, and it is.
Anyone else have issues with notifications recently?

Feature Request: Usage Warning Timer
Feature Request:
Optional timer to pop up a warning based on when the viewer opened the app. This is to help limit usage. Ideally either have the timer based on time open this time or total usage time per day/week.

Embedded video

It seems that Thunder has this issue as well.

Fixed: Not displaying vote counts?
Hey, I love the app but I’ve never reported a bug before so I’m not sure if this is a bug or if I’m doing something wrong.
It used to show the vote counts next to the votes. Now, it only shows how I voted. Example:
On a comment (see upvote on first comment): !
So please let me know if I have a setting wrong or what. I have Thunder 5.1 and and an iPhone. Thanks for any help you can give!
Fixed!
> [email protected] > Check if Settings → Account → Show Post/Comment Scores is on. It's an instance-side setting to hide the scores.

Swipe Gesture to Collapse Comment Chain?
Any chance we can have an option in the various swipe gestures to collapse a comment chain up to the parent? I loved this feature in Apollo. Right now, tapping a comment collapses just that comment, but not sure how to collapse up.
-
Crosspost doesn't copy body text on link posts
When crossposting a text-only post, Thunder automatically populates the body field with a link to the original post and quotes any existing body text. This is good.
When crossposting a link post, the body field is empty. No link to the original post is added to the body field, nor is any body text quoted. This is not good.

I can't see what I type while typing a comment.
I'm new to this app here. I come from Boost and wanted to try something new. I do like the app, however I have issues writing comments or posts.
My keyboard will cover the area where my text is, so while typing I am unable to read what I type.
If I want to read or correct my text, I need to tab the back button to close my keyboard.
I didn't find anything in the settings to prevent that. My keyboard is not floating.
Here are some screenshots:
^ I can't see the lower few rows of text.
^ after tabbing back to close the keyboard I can read but not correct. Tabbing on the text will open the keyboard, which will cover my text again.
^ installed version
My phone is an Android Oppo A5s (CPH1909).
Thanks for any help!

Default feed type missing subscriptions option
For almost the entire time I've been using Thunder, my default view has been by subscriptions. I'm not sure if something changed and this got deleted, or for new feature was added and didn't taken to account the subscriptions, but I'd like to set it back to that being my default view.

UPDATE! Fewer than 15% of Lemmy Apps display posts accurately
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/18159531
> > Updated! Updates are shown in quote text like this. > > # An Apps Experiment > > ## Introduction > > This is an experiment I performed out of curiosity, and I have a few big disclaimers at the bottom. Basically, I've seen a lot of comments recently about one app or another not displaying something right. Lemmy has been around for a while now and can no longer be considered an experimental platform. > > Lemmy and the apps that people use to access the platform have become an important part of people’s lives. Whether you are checking the app weekly or daily, and whether you use it to stay up on the news or to stay connected to your hobby, it’s important that it works. I hope that this helps people to see the extent of the challenge, and encourages developers to improve their apps, too. > > ## How I did it > > I wanted to investigate objectively how accurately each app displays text of posts and comments using the standard Lemmy markdown. Markdown is a standard part of the Lemmy platform, but not all apps handle it the same. It is basically what gives text useful formatting. > > I used the latest release of each app, but did not include pre-releases. I only included apps that have released an update in the last 6 months, which should include most apps in active development.
I was unable to test iOS-exclusive apps, so they are not included either. In all, 16 apps met the inclusion criteria.> > > I also added Eternity, which is in active development, although it has not had a recent update. I was able to include several iOS apps thanks to testing from @[email protected] – Thanks, Jordan! This made for 21 apps that were tested. > > Each app was rated in 5 categories: Text, Format, Spoilers, Links, and Images. I chose these mostly based on the wonderful Markdown Guide from @[email protected], which was posted about a year ago in [email protected] (here). > > I checked whether each app correctly displayed each category, then took the overall average. Each category was weighted equally. Text includes italic, bold, strong, strikethrough, superscript, and subscript. Format includes block quotes, lists, code (block and inline), tables, and dividers. Spoilers includes display of hidden, expandable spoilers. Links includes external links, username links, and community links. Images included embedded images, image references, and inline images. > > > Thanks to input from others, I also added a test to see if lemmy hyperlinks opened in-app. There was a problem with using the SFFA Community Guide that caused some apps to be essentially penalized twice because there was formatting inside formatting, so I created this TEST POST to more clearly and fairly measure each app. > > In each case, I checked whether the display was correct based on the rules for Lemmy Markdown, and consistent with the author’s intent. In cases where the app recognized the tag correctly but did not display it accurately, that was treated as a fail. > > ## Results > > Out of a possible perfect 10, only 3 apps displayed all markdown correctly: > > ### Jerboa (Official Android client) - 10.0 > ### Alexandrite - 10.0 > ### Voyager - 10.0 > ### Summit - 9.7 > ### Photon - 9.3 > ### Arctic - 9.3 (pending) > ### Interstellar - 9.1 > ### Lemmy-UI - 9.0 > ### Thunder - 8.9 > ### Tesseract - 8.6 > ### Quiblr - 8.1 > ### mlmym - 8.0 > ### Lemmios - 8.0 (pending) > ### Mlem - 7.5 (pending) > ### Boost - 7.3 > ### Eternity - 7.0 > ### Sync - 6.9 > ### Connect - 6.7 > ### Lemmynade - 6.1 > ### Avelon - 5.7 (pending) > > More details of testing here > > > ::: spoiler Disclaimers > > ## Disclaimers > > ### I Love Lemmy Apps (and their devs) > > Lemmy apps devs work very hard, and invest a lot in the platform. Lemmy is better because they are doing the work that they do. Like, a LOT better. Everyone who uses the platform has to access it through one app or another. Apps are the face of the entire platform. Whether an app is a FOSS passion project, underwritten by a grant, or generating income through sales or ads, no one is getting rich by making their app. It is for the benefit of the community. > > This is not meant to be a rating of the quality or functionality of any app. An app may have a high rating here but be missing other features that users want, or users may love an app that has a lower rating. This is just about how well apps handle markdown. > > ### This is pretty unscientific > > You’ll see my methodology above. I’m not a scientist. There is probably a much better way to do this, and I probably have biases in terms of how I went about it. I think it’s interesting and probably has some valuable information. If you think it’s interesting, let me know. If you think of a better way, PM me and I’d be happy to share what I have so you don’t have to start from scratch. > > ### My only goal is to help the community > > I do think that accurately displaying markdown should be a standard expectation of a finished app. I hope that devs use this as an opportunity to shore up the areas that are lagging, and that they have a set of standards to aim for. > >I don’t have any Apple things> >Sorry. This is just Android and Web review. If someone would like to see how iOS apps are doing, please reach out and I’ll share how we can work together to include them.> > ::: >See the test comment in the comment section of the original post (this is just a cross-post). Thunder is doing pretty well but has a few things not showing entirely correct.

First few seconds of videos dimmed
So is this Thunder itself or some app it is deferring to whose config I should look at?
Basically videos start out dim for a few seconds until the video controls fade out. This means the first few seconds of every video are basically unwatchable, and with short videos this is all or most of the video. For example https://lemmy.world/post/17884719

Possible to select multiple media at once?
Is it possible to add support for selecting multiple media items at once? Would like to post content, but haven't found any client that supports this. Selecting individual items is cumbersome.

Where are drafts saved?
If I start writing a comment, but decide "nah, not right now" and back out, my partially written comment is "saved as draft".
If I go back to the comment, the partially written comment is "restored from draft".
- Are drafts stored indefinitely?
- Is there a way to see all my current drafts?
- If I keep creating new drafts without ever finishing them, will my storage get full?
- Is there any way to delete drafts?

The body of comments that are just text within angle brackets do not render
lemmy.world Linux market share passes 4% for first time; macOS dominance declines - Lemmy.Worldcross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/17018864 [https://lemmy.world/post/17018864] > I know this might be a couple months old, but I didn’t know we already passed 4%.
In this example, some commenters are joking around and placing angle brackets (less than, greater than) around their comment's text. As a result, the comment text does not display.
It does display in a web browser or Voyager. Raccoon also does not render the comments, though strangely it does render that last comment in the chain. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the comment includes an apostrophe and comma, unlike the others.

Moderator comment actions
Hi, I'd like to switch from Boost to Thunder permanently but the lack of moderator actions is the final hurdle.
Being able to remove posts is a good start, but not being able to do anything with comments is a bit of an issue for me. Any idea when this feature might be added?

Is This Thunder?
I found a Similar logo design to thunder, and was wondering where this is originally from?
I was browsing TikTok, yes, judge me. Haven’t been on in years, and still hate it.

Does the app only stutter for me?
I'm currently trying out the Thunder app on my Pixel 4A. When I open the menu on the left side of the screen, the app always stutters. Occasionally, it also stutters when I scroll through my feed.

Full height images not working?
Full height images have been enabled in card view but I'm still seeing cropped off portions

Votes are not visible

Votes don't show up in both posts and comments. Issue began upon updating to 0.4.0
Logged out and in. Nothing changed.

What is this and how do I make it stop?
Sometimes when I am scrolling through a comment feed, I somehow make this dialogue pop up and it seems to involve comments with links in them. I don't like it and I don't know how I am making it happen, it just gets in the way.
Long short, how do I make it stop or disable it entirely? It happens very often.

Posts not marked as read after viewing media.
Title. I apologize if this is not the appropriate location to report bugs or other issues, or if this has been reported before, or if this is an issue larger than Thunder.
I noticed this morning that despite having it set in settings, opening a post's media will not mark it as read, as it had previous to today. I've switched the settings on/off, restarted the app, restarted my phone, all to no avail.
If I need to report this elsewhere or provide more information, let me know. I went to GitHub originally, but I don't have an account over there, and didn't see an option to report an issue without one.
Thank you in advance.

Link posts in compact
Is it possible to have link posts in compact layout while other posts are in cards layout? I miss this feature from Boost and Eternity.

Hey everyone, Thunder v0.4.0 is finally here! This release cycle took a bit longer than usual, but as a result, introduces a lot of new features, changes, and fixes which should make for a even better Thunder experience. If you have any suggestions or feedback, feel free to discuss it in the Thunder community or on GitHub.
If you're enjoying Thunder and would like to show some support, star this project on GitHub! This helps gain visibility for the project and allows more contributors to help with the continued development of Thunder. If you'd like to show some appreciation, here is a post with details on how to donate to the active contributors of Thunder.
A quick reminder: if you are using the Google Play version or App Store version, please note that it may take a bit of time before you receive the update. Now onto the update notes. This update brings a few major features:
🎉 New Features
- The comment creation page has been fully re-built from the ground up and introduces a few new features, including the ability to specify the comment language, ability to comment as a different user, and addition of spoilers to the markdown toolbar. If you have any suggestions or feedback regarding these changes, feel free to make a new issue on GitHub!
- There is now initial support for video playback on Thunder! The built-in video player should work with most video URLs (that end in a proper video extension) and should work with YouTube URLs. Additionally, you can customize some video settings such as playback speed, auto-mute, auto-play and more in the Settings page. The video player is still experimental, so there may still be some issues present.
- Additional customization options including the ability to customize the colours of actions (upvotes, downvotes, saving, etc.), hiding thumbnails from the feed, showing user/community avatars, and much more.
ℹ General
- There have been improvements to the overall UI/UX across the board. This includes improvements to the pure black theme, improvements to markdown rendering of tables, quotes, and more.
- There have also been a lot of changes under-the-hood to hopefully improve the overall performance and reliability of actions. As a result of these changes, there may still be some issues that were not caught during testing. If you notice any general issues, please make a new issue on GitHub.
And much much more. I can't go through all the changes in the changelog, but for those who are curious, feel free to check out the full changelog below.
We have a Matrix space if you would like to join in on discussions.

feature request: block a community
I scroll all:scaled fairly often, as my list of subs isn't super active, but there are some communities that come up fairly often that I would rather not see. Is there a way to implement that on the client side or would that require a Lemmy change?
-
Disabling Navigation Gestures
Is there a way to disable the app's back navigation gesture? It kinda overlaps with Android's back gesture
-
Feature Request: Preferred dark theme
I use the follow system when setting a theme. However, Thunder defaults to gray theme rather than amoled.
Would love to have the option to set a preferred dark theme so that it defaults to the amoled option instead.
-
Color contrast for OP and mod names
Edit: nvm, I changed something in settings, it was user error. Pls disregard
Hi Thunder devs, I have an accessibility issue to report regarding the special styling for original poster and mod names (changed with the last major release). I haven't checked against WCAG, but I'm pretty sure they don't meet color contrast standards; it's pretty hard to read the grey text, especially over the 'mod' orange.
Otherwise, no complaints. I really dig Thunder, I chose it as my daily driver after months of testing alongside Voyager, Eternity, and Jerboa. It just feels more responsive and intuitive, and the customization options are quite good. Nice work!
-
Feature request: Horizontal swipe for next/previous post in feed
Feature request: Horizontal swipe for next/previous post in feed
I would love this as an option for navigating between posts, and I'm surprised that most Lemmy apps don't have this.
Joey for Reddit had this feature, as does the official Reddit app. Connect for Lemmy has this feature, and Boost for Lemmy doesn't show the comments in swiping mode. Eternity is the only Lemmy app which does it properly so far, but development has fallen behind in other areas.
Would the Thunder devs consider implementing this feature? It would probably win me over!
-
Way to collapse profile when viewing saved posts?
Any way to collapse your profile as you scroll down your posts / saved posts? Sometimes I want to send a screenshot of a post I saved but the profile is taking up a lot of space together with the bottom tab bar.
-
Missing default sort options
The feed default sort options list is missing "scaled" and "controversial" options. Would be great if those could be added. Thanks for the great app!
edit: Looks like this is already in the works: https://github.com/thunder-app/thunder/pull/1298

Hey everyone, its been a while but it's finally time for another Thunder release. As always, there have been many improvements, additions, changes and fixes in this release which should make for a even better Thunder experience. If you have any suggestions or feedback, feel free to discuss it in the Thunder community or on GitHub.
A quick reminder: if you are using the Google Play version or App Store version, please note that it may take a bit of time before you receive the update. Now onto the update notes. This update brings a few major features:
🎉 New Features
- Instance and community modlogs are now available in Thunder. To access the instance modlog, tap on the triple dot button located on the top app bar and select "Modlog" when viewing general feeds (Subscribed/Local/All). To access a community modlog, navigate to the given community and find "Modlog" in the extended actions.
- Mod reports are now available to view and resolve within Thunder via the drawer. If you are a moderator or admin of a community/instance, you should see a new "Reports" option under the general feeds. Only post and comment reports are available at this time. Private message reports will come in a future update.
- The user feed has been fully re-worked to provide a better experience similar to the general/community feeds. This means that you can now change the sorting when viewing a user feed, and use the FAB for additional actions.
- An instance explorer has been added into the Search page. This allows you to explore communities, posts and comments for the current instance.
- Thunder now has an in-app changelog for updates. It is turned on by default, but can be toggled off in the settings. This changelog should help you keep track of what additions, changes, and fixes have been added in upcoming versions.
ℹ General
- Improvements to markdown rendering. Spoiler markdown detection has been improved, and there is now initial/experimental support for subscript and superscript markdown tags. Markdown quick actions when creating posts/comments will be added in the near future.
- You can now customize the user/community name format and style across Thunder! This is accessible through Settings -> Appearance -> Theming. You can adjust the font weight, colour, and format for both user and community names.
- Improved UI/UX for long press actions, and additional customization options including customizable feed dividers and navigation bar labels.
And much much more. I can't go through all the changes in the changelog, but for those who are curious, feel free to check out the full changelog below.

Login seems broken?
For some reason, my app can’t seem to handle logins correctly. I am able to log in ok, but the account management page never shows the login, which means I can see my inbox, etc.
I haven’t tried completely deleting and reinstalling yet, but I have tried to log in several times with no change in app behavior.

Mod-deleted comments still appearing, rendered
With the recent Thulean* comment spam attacks, mods have dutifully deleted the offending comments, but Thunder still renders the deleted comments.
Connect seems to have the same bug
Voyager and Jerboa show the comments as deleted
