I've not played a Bethesda game in a few months (BG3 now, and about to check out phantom liberty after finishing my current replay of bg3). But I've gotten a really solid 'base' of Skyrim mods. From there I'll usually just add or remove a few depending on what my vision is for the next replay XD. Took years, and is generally very stable.
It's one of those games that basically... is mods. Want a car? Someone's modeled it and put it into the game. Wait to use a wheel and shifters? Go for it. Want to crawl a mountain in a V8 behemoth with giant tires? Go for it. Want to send an 18-wheeler into a stack of buses at the end of a jump ramp? Go for it.
