Putting a paywall between an incarcerated person and their ability to communicate with anyone, especially when the ability for the inmate to earn income to overcome that paywall is extremely limited, is at least predatory, and arguably cruel.
Edit @5↑: And to be clear, there would absolutely be situations where an inmate's ability to communicate with specific people should be restricted. The blanket restriction on communication with anyone is where the problem is.
Do they get Internet free, too? Reddit may have a way to solve their moderation problem, by recruiting new mods who are already used to being locked in to a poor user interface.
Nope, the phones that prisoners can use to call their lawyer, family, etc are run by whatever company wins the contract to provide the service, and they're allowed to charge whatever they want.
Have you ever seen how many people are cleared by the innocent projects? People that were on death row? Have you ever heard about the people that were executed and then later found to be innocent? Did you hear about how the entire field of hair analysis put countless people behind bars and then was later shown to be a complete fabrication Are you willing to go to prison for a crime you didn't commit?
