I thought the bigger goal was to break free from the US hegemony as much as anything. If I'm way out of line in this thinking then the mods are free to remove this post.
I guess so, that breaking free from the US hegemony is one of the goals but the main would be to well buy from European companies and use European solutions.
I for myself like how versatile Obsidian is, I use it intensively as it's community plugins are just unrivaled.
Joplin is an open source note-taking app. Capture your thoughts and securely access them from any device.
Multimedia notes
Images, videos, PDFs and audio files are supported. Create math expressions and diagrams directly from the app. Take photos with the mobile app and save them to a note.
Work together
With Joplin Cloud, share your notes with your friends, family or colleagues and collaborate on them.
You can also publish a note to the internet and share the URL with others.
Save web pages as notes
Use the web clipper extension, available on Chrome and Firefox, to save web pages or take screenshots as notes.
Customise it
Customise the app with plugins, custom themes and multiple text editors (Rich Text or Markdown). Or create your own scripts and plugins using the Extension API.
Your notes, everywhere you are
Access your notes from your computer, phone or tablet by synchronising with various services, including Joplin Cloud, Dropbox and OneDrive. The app is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. A terminal app is also available!
100% your data
The app is open source and your notes are saved to an open format, so you'll always have access to them. Uses End-To-End Encryption (E2EE) to secure your notes and ensure no-one but yourself can access them.
I still have a few more days before my Obsidian Sync renews. Gave joplinapp a test drive today but coming from Obsidian this feels clunky. I followed the " move from O to J" video and that worked. But couldn't figure out where my files actually reside, which annoyed me, with some other things.
I'll give it some more thought, as I'd rather spend my money here in Europe.
There's been a lot of talk/news over at the Europe community about how a lot of Canadians want to join the EU. Not that I think it's likely, so it was just a little silly joke.
You can sync with notes in your cloud. I guess if you set it up in a cloud folder that is shared between users, then multiple people might be able to share notes. I did not try it though.
I am not familiar with Google Keep Notes, so I do not know how that one works.
Edit: wrote "calendar" instead of "notes" for some unknown reason
