DoJ report acknowledges attack ‘was so systematic and coordinated that it transcended mere mob violence’
The DoJ’s findings acknowledged the role of Tulsa law enforcement in the massacre, including that of Tulsa police who “deputized hundreds of white residents, many of whom – immediately before being awarded a badge – had been drinking and agitating for [a lynching]”. According to the report, more than 500 men were deputized in less than 30 minutes.
he was told he “could now ‘go out and shoot any [N-word] you see and the law’ll be behind you’”.
I realize that right up there is a DOJ report, but I read this article in about 2020 and found it at the time to be one of the most horrifyingly complete accounts of what happened that I'd seen.
Would this report help Lessie Benningfield Randle and Viola Fletcher, the only two living survivors of the massacre, with their lawsuit that was thrown out of the Oklahoma Supreme Court last June?
Being released wouldn't change anything. Mueller's report was released and nothing meaningful happened. We're significantly farther down the fascist path now too. I expect even less will happen when Smith's report is eventually released.
The bastard Trump Turds would like to repeat 1924 Tulsa on a much larger scale. US history is full of mass violence events involving police brutality and murder. Just examine the early days of the worker unions.
