Tyreek Hill’s unsettling question should bother us all - The Miami Dolphins wide receiver asked a piercing question after he was detained by police on his way to work: What if he wasn’t Tyreek Hill?
Bring on the downvotes. I'm definitely biased as a raider fan because Tyreek was a Chief for a while. Chief or not, I strongly dislike Tyreek. In college , he beat his pregnant girlfriend and later, I believe his kid too. I hate to side with the cops but I'm sure he was driving like an asshole because he is an asshole. Also was an asshole the whole time he was being pulled over, and made it a bigger deal than it had to be. IMO he fucked around n found out. I don't feel that badly for him. The same question can be asked if someone who beat their pregnant girlfriend in college. What if they weren't Tyreek Hill? Jail, and not a multimillion dollar career. I just find it hard to have any sympathy for this man.
What if he wasn't speeding, and didn't dismiss dangerous civil behavior as something he should be allowed to pay 0.0001% of his net worth for and move on without consequence?
We should be one of those countries where civil infraction penalties are calculated based on net worth.
This seems like the closest we'll ever get to "justice" on the guy who only isn't in jail right now for beating the shit out of his pregnant girlfriend "because he's Tyreek Hill"
I can understand the cop being concerned about having the window rolled up, those windows were extremely tinted and he wouldn't be able to see what Hill was doing. But the cop went from 0 to 60 faster than Hill did. Hill did say he closed the window to keep people from taking pictures. But I bet it the officer asked him to roll it down just a bit Hill would have complied.
He got a speeding ticket in a poorly designed street with variable speed limits that is only designed to funnel people to and from the stadium and the interstate that just so happens to cut something like a nine lane street through a low income and predominantly black neighborhood and school zones. And the only reason he wasn't shot dead was because he was driving a very expensive car and the cop likely identified him as a semi-celebrity right away. This whole thing is like a case study in all the various forms of institutional racism. Tyreek Hill might be an unredeemable asshole, but that's FAR from the whole story.
What if he wasn't driving reckless down a busy street, been calm and respectful when (rightfully) being pulled over, and rolled his window down when asked to?
Only your first point matters. All cops can lick my chode and don't deserve respect, and it skins like he tried his window up after already giving his ID. Tyreek is a piece of shit that should have been arrested and kicked out of the NFL after he beat his girlfriend, but these cops were in their typical power trip.
Everyone agrees to follow traffic law when they ask the state to grant them permission to drive. In every state, "stay calm and obey police orders during a traffic stop" is one of those laws. Yes, he was allowed to roll his window up after giving his ID, but the second he was asked to roll it back down and refused, he entered a whole different level of traffic violation, hence the escalation.
You don't get to pick and choose which rules you to follow because you think you're a hotshot celebrity who's embarrassed of being seen getting a ticket.
The saddest part is that it’s not even an “or” statement. Police don’t even care if you’re a bootlicker. When push comes to shove, they’ll gladly stomp on the bootlickers too.
