idk I'm not from the us but i think these are pretty common?
hole is just there for making production easier
- I mean, it’s also a Euro plug with US pins. I’ve never seen that mashup before. 🤷‍♀️

  The holes allow the socket to grip the plug more firmly according to this page.
  
  But, yes. These plugs are completely normal in Japan at least.
  
  technology connections made a video on it, none of the sockets actually use the holes, and ones that do, do it unintentionally
- Would you say the lack of the hole is not very interesting?
