I bought a freeze dryer so you don't have to [1:00:14]
  • Primarily because it’s a $3k piece of equipment. There are myriad other food preservation methods (canning, pickling, drying etc) that compete very strongly on the price/performance scale.

For some people it’s worth it, but for most use cases it’s going to be cheaper and simpler to go with an alternative method. There’s nothing wrong with the equipment or the technique, it’s just the value proposition for the consumer is low and the entry cost is high.

  • Right-wing podcaster shelves show after Russian money dries up.
  • A million subscribers in the swing states is not easily dismissed. If the election was just a popular vote I’d agree, his numbers are inconsequential. But unfortunately it’s the swing states that really matter for the presidential election.

  • Foreign diplomats react with horror to Biden’s dismal debate performance
  • What I don’t understand are the calls for Biden to step down from the NYT but no calls are made for Trump to step down.

The media is so soft on Trump, lulled by over-exposure, desensitized to his lunacy so he gets a pass too often.

If you see the corruption of our institutions, voting for gop will accelerate that. For a hope of a reversal the only option are democrats. Imperfect yes. But there’s no choice.

  • Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI's former chief scientist, launches new AI company
  • The company is called “Safe Super Intelligence”. Not a fan of names like these, kind of like if a company called itself “safe airplanes”, there’s something about it that makes me think it won’t live up to the name.

Not sure how they plan on raising money when so many other AI companies are promising commercialization. A company prioritizing safety will be defeated by another prioritizing profit. A company like this could have flourished in the time before openAI, but right now there’s so much demand for gpus and talent that makes it very challenging to catch up, more so when less scrupulous companies offer more money for engineers. They’d have to hire from a smaller and more limited pool of applicants that believe in the mission.

  • Palworld is now the second ever game to hit 2 million concurrent players on Steam
  • It’s a very fun, silly, well-made game with a very addictive loop where you’re given a lot of small, easily achievable tasks that have you going: “one more and I’m done”.

On Sunday I played for 13 hours. I don’t know if they have a team of psychologists that found out how to make the game addictive, but the results speak for themselves.

It’s a fun and beautiful place to explore, full of vibrant colors and cute pals. Your base building is not boring because the boring resource gathering is automated by your pal slaves. It scratches optimization itches, and you also get raided which can result in hilarious outcomes that give you an opportunity to rebuild and organize your base more efficiently.

  • is there a way to directly share an image rather than a link?

In Apollo I could tap and hold a posted image and there’d be an option to share the image directly with my contacts. Here I can only share the Lemmy link.

I guess what Apollo was doing was temporarily downloading the image/video and then deleted it after being shared.

Right now I can’t copy an image through wefwef either, I have to open the link through safari to have that functionality.
