Are there any animes or TV shows you can't stop recommending?
  • Yes! I've been rewatching Babylon 5 and it's as amazing as I remember!

  • Bernie Moreno says women are ‘single issue voters’ for abortion during Ohio town hall
  • Yep, and they think everyone thinks that way. It's like when JD Vance said that people who are childless have no investment in the future, as if we have no reason to care about the future of society without kids of our own.

  • Texas attorney general says he will sue doctor who gives abortion to Kate Cox
  • All for a non-viable fetus. Not that it should matter, she should have the right to choose either way, but it makes this particularly insane.

  • What game do you play to just chill?
  • This is also my go to for some chill gaming!

  • We believe PDD is a Dying Fraudulent Company and its Shopping App TEMU is Cleverly Hidden Spyware that Poses an Urgent Security Threat to U.S. National Interests
  • Can't say this is surprising. I remember when TEMU ads started coming out en masse. Their "shop like a billionaire" catchphrase for buying cheap ripped-off crap gave off red flags and latestagecapitalism vibes. It's frustrating to see how many people fell for the marketing and have actually downloaded and used this app.

  • She's been getting softer lately.
  • She's so cute! Although she has those crazy eyes lol

  • Look guys! There's a Lemmy version of r/place happening!
  • Love to see the Skyrim logo in there. That's the one I worked on back on the original Place!

  • I miss StumbleUpon
  • Same! It's what led me to find Reddit a long time ago.

  • How many fediverse websites are there?
  • The Fediverse is essentially a collection of platforms (such as Lemmy, Mastodon, Pixelfed, and more). Each platform has a number of instances that are hosted separately, hence the decentralized nature of the Fediverse. For example, Lemmy is a platform, and Lemmy instances include Lemmy.world, Lemmy.ml, kbin.social, sh.itjust.works, and more. Others have posted links to lists of instances that you can look through.

  • How to fuck up your children for life - part I.
  • As a geoscientist and someone who produces maps (and also just as a human who understands science), this particular flavor of willful ignorance blows my mind. It makes me sad for the kids who trust their parents and will eventually have to unlearn this shit or carry on fundamentally misunderstanding the Earth. I also can't help but wonder what jank projection is being used here to display the continents in 2D lol. Looks like a polar projection centered on the north pole which is why the continents are distorted around the edges ending up with a "wall of ice" all around which is really just a very distorted Antarctica. There's a reason we don't use polar projections to represent the Earth on a global scale.

  • What did everyone read in June?
  • Swan Light by Phoebe Rowe - I really enjoyed this book telling two connected stories that occurred 100 years apart in parallel, centering around a lighthouse in Newfoundland that collapsed into the ocean and the search to find it.

The Weight of Air by David Poses - Autobiographical book advocating for harm reduction approaches in treating addiction. I was sad to see that the author passed away last year, it's clear that his book has helped a lot of people.

  • Happy Canada Day!
  • Thank you for your perspective. This day is still celebratory to me but it definitely invites more reflection and awareness than ever before. I hope fellow Canadians are also pausing today to reflect on our past, both good and bad, and the values we want to hold as we move forward.

  • Some great reminders from Dani Donovan
  • Thank you for this! I remember when I first saw rejection sensitivity as an actual symptom of ADHD, it was definitely an aha moment for me. It put words to something I had experienced my whole life.

  • Apollo has ceased working
  • Same for Baconreader. RIP to a great app that served me well for many years.

  • Hypothetically speaking, if Reddit back tracks on their API plan and meets all of the communities expeditions- would you go back to Reddit?
  • Not in the same way as before, that's for sure. It would mean that they only did it after people protested and disrupted the site for an extended period of time. They obviously don't want Reddit to be what we want it to be anymore. I'm sure they would still try to subvert the users' will and impose theirs in different ways. Plus, this has made me expand and actually seek out exciting new communities and platforms for the first time in a long time. These communities are filled with people who have similar opinions on what happened and how to move forward and create spaces we want to participate in. Whatever happens with Reddit can't undo that.

  • Tanuki was not pleased by the ammount of food he got
